Chapter Text
Andy's life had changed quite a bit in the last few months. When she first started working at Runway, she did not know anything about fashion. Hell, she did not even bother to look up the name of her potential Boss on Google! Not to mention that time she practically mocked the fashion industry the day of the cerulean sweater incident. Fortunately, thanks to her friends Nigel and Serena giving her a makeover, she got a second chance: she promised herself she would take her job seriously, and never make fun of anyone's work at these offices, or anywhere else. Lately, she had been searching the name of some designers on the internet, so whenever she had to take someone's call, or change an appointment, she would actually picture who they were, instead of just telling Miranda 'I've got Patrick' or whoever was on the other side of the line. She started paying attention to the clothes she saw every day, trying to understand fashion a little better. Nonetheless, there were still some pieces she did not like, and she wondered who in their right mind would put on certain clothes, but of course everybody likes different things, and fashion was a way to express oneself, so she respected that.
That is why she was so interested in checking Miranda's clothes. She would always try to guess who the designer would be, although she never knew for sure (except for a couple of times in which Nigel just told her, after having caught her staring at the CEO). He would look at her intently, but never said anything. Andy figured he was just proud of her change, of her new interest in fashion. Her routine included reciting (in her mind, that is, not out loud. She did not want people to think she was crazy) a list of the latest designers she had memorized while she took care of her Boss' coat and bag.
That day, she saw Miranda wearing… The Power Suit (that is how she called it, she could even feel the caps when her own voice said it in her mind). She liked to combine it with a red belt, which Andy loved. For her co-workers though, it did not mean anything, but Andy could not comprehend how they could take a look at her and not feel even slightly speechless. Then again, they were too busy hiding from her, and when they had to be in the same room as their demanding Boss, they were totally focused on their jobs, and she could not blame them for that. Some people got fired for the silliest things.
"Morning, Miranda!" she greeted her as usual, even though she would never reply back and would start giving instructions right away. She then placed Miranda's belongings on the usual place. Givenchy, Versace, my friends Dolce & Gabbana… (she chuckled at this, which made Emily look at her annoyed).
"Where the Hell are Jocelyn and Serena? I needed them to be here 15 minutes ago!" Miranda's voice pulled her out of her thoughts. She had got out of her office and was pacing. She looked around, and muttered, "Nigel, go get them, and if they're not here in exactly three minutes, tell them to not bother coming back." Andy's eyes had not stopped following her during all those seconds, which Nigel had not missed. A few seconds later, Jocelyn and Serena walked through the crystal door.
"Enjoying the view, are we?" he raised an eyebrow at the brunette.
"Huh?"
"Oh, don't 'huh' me, Six. I know."
"Know… what?" she asked, clueless.
"Oh my God, you haven't realized yet! This is gonna be so much fun!" he clapped his hands.
"Jocelyn, go inside, I'll be there in a few." Serena said, not wanting to miss on whatever was happening with her two friends. She would be quick, not wanting to risk losing her job, "What's the deal?" the blonde asked Nigel with a whisper.
"I've caught Six checking Miranda again." he chuckled.
"Wait, what? I was not doing that! I was paying attention to her clothes, as always."
"Yes, dear, you are always paying attention to her, that's true."
"I… you're impossible! FYI: I've been doing some research…"
"Oh, so that's what people are calling it these days. Research." he laughed along with Serena, making air commas.
"Andy, it's nothing to be embarrassed about," Serena told her, "She's a very attractive woman."
"What? I… well, I guess, but…"
"Nigel, we need to go inside before she fires us! Catch up with you later. And Emily, you look fantastic, querida." and just like that, Serena left.
"What were you three whispering about?" Emily asked from behind her desk, blushing after having heard the blonde complimenting her.
"Nothing! Nigel has a huge imagination, it seems."
"Don't care." the redhead replied.
"Then why did you even ask?" Andy rolled her eyes. This was too much. She had no time for nonsense.
"So, who do you think the designer behind that little suit that drives you crazy is?" he asked while looking at some notes, like this topic was nothing of importance.
"Nigel, what the heck? And it's not a 'little suit' it's The fucking Power Suit."
"I'm gonna take some pity on you and not make a pun, but you really make it so easy to tease you, Six."
"What do you mean? Oh! No, no, don't go there, it's highly inappropriate!"
"I agree." Emily said all of a sudden.
"Weren't you too busy and I quote 'you don't care'?" Nigel turned around, facing her coworker.
"Well, I'm bored as well. Sue me. And Andrea, what Nigel is suggesting is, unfortunately, quite accurate. Stop-drooling-over-our-Boss!"
"Guys, you're driving this out of proportion! I told you, I just am interested in learning about the designers and their pieces. So what if Miranda looks hot as Hell in The Power Suit? Good for her, right?"
Emily and Nigel exchanged a look, completely amused by the fact Andy was the only one to not realize about her own crush. The former went back to work, and the bald man just said: "It's by Donna Karan, dear. Frankly, I'm surprised, but for the better, Six. A few months ago you weren't able to even spell Gabbana, and now… look at you trying to be an A+ student in fashion. But be careful and don't let distractions make you fail. Well, one distraction." he winked at her, before coming into Miranda's office.
"This is gonna be a looong, long day." Andy puffed.
That night, as usual, the second assistant went to the townhouse to bring the Book and Miranda's dry-cleaned clothes. The weather was quite cold, and it seemed like it would rain. She had not brought an umbrella with her, since last time she checked the forecast, the day would be cloudy, but no rains were expected. If she was quick enough, she could get on time on the metro and run towards her apartment if necessary. She was hanging the clothes, when she heard someone knocking on the door. Oh God, what should I do? Miranda must have got here way before me, so she must have someone over, The very thought of someone dating Miranda was very upsetting, What should I do? I…
"Andrea," Miranda walked down the stairs slowly, "Open the door. If it's someone trying to sell something, tell them I'm not here." Who the Hell thinks it's polite going to other people's houses this late?
"Oh, okay, yes! I… I can do that." Pheww. Well, if that person is a menace, I could hit them with the Book. Wait, no, I can't, Miranda would kill me! What the fuck am I thinking? It must be just one of Miranda's posh neighbors.
The brunette opened the door carefully, "Hi, how can I help y….?" she could not finish the sentence. She was too stunned to move a muscle, to the point of not even realizing the Book had fallen from her arms. She was shocked by what she was seeing. It could not be possible!
