Work Text:

“This is The Crow speaking. I’m nearly at the bank, over.”

“Hinata,” crackled Kageyama’s voice in his ear piece. Hinata was flying at breakneck speed, and it was getting hard to hear over the wind. “Stop pretending to be a secret agent and just stop the damn guy, would you? He’s already inside.”

“Okay, okay. You’re no fun, Bakageyama.”

Hinata landed gracefully (okay, maybe a hop or two was required to prevent any face-planting, but no one was around to see that), and burst through the doors of the bank, black cape flowing heroically behind him (thank you, over-aggressive bank air conditioning).

People stood frozen all around the non-descript lobby with its nubby carpet, and a few more people were hiding behind zig-zag patterned chairs from 1998. The only person who was moving was a man directly in front of Hinata.

“Excuse me!” Hinata said. “I’m looking for a man, trying to rob this bank, said to have bleached hair…”

The man whirled around, gun pointed at Hinata’s chest, and… ah. Perhaps Hinata should have looked at the hair earlier.

“Put your hands up. Who the heck are you?”

“The Crow,” said Hinata, triumphantly. “I’m here to stop you.”

“Like hell you are,” said the man, though his voice faltered as he spoke. “Put your hands up, or… I’ll shoot.”

Hinata glanced at the gun, shaking violently in the man’s hand. “Go ahead.”

Bang!

“Ow! Fuck, I didn’t think you were actually going to—”

“Shit! I wasn’t actually—are you—wait… you’re not even bleeding.”

“Oh. Bullets can’t pierce my skin.” Hinata bent and picked up the bullet from the (still nubby) carpet. He’d have a bruise on his shoulder in the morning, but no other harm done.

“What—”

“Alright, Sir, I’m going to have to place you under arrest now.”

“What on earth is happening?” screamed the man.

He made to dash past Hinata, but Hinata caught his arm on the way out. One jump off the nubby carpet and Hinata launched them both into the air, the man kicking and still screaming. Understandable, really, given he was about to be arrested.

And they were flying over buildings while he was dangling from Hinata’s hand. Hinata had super strength, of course, but the man likely didn’t know that. Perfectly understandable screaming.

“Let me go!” The man was scrabbling at Hinata’s hand.

“Okay,” said Hinata with a grin.

More screaming as the man plummeted several feet in the air, and then Hinata caught him again, this time in both arms.

“Still want to be let go?”

“No, no,” said the man, trembling. “Who—what—are you?”

“The Crow.”

“That’s a stupid name.”

“Do you want me to drop you again?”

“No! Okay fine. It’s a great name.”

“That wasn’t convincing at all,” pouted Hinata.

“It’s a fantastic name, alright? Best damn superhero name I’ve heard.”

“Better.”

Hinata peered curiously at the man, who was still scowling heavily, despite being flown (free of charge!) over some of the most beautiful views of the city. “What’s your name?”

“What’s it matter to you?”

“I dunno. You're interesting.”

The man sighed. “Miya. Miya Atsumu.”

“Nice to meet you, Miya-san,” said Hinata with a satisfied nod.

“Call me Atsumu,” grumbled the man. “Got a brother who’s not trying to be a villain, you see.”

“Ah, okay then, Atsumu-san.”

They flew a few more minutes in silence. Atsumu had become comfortable enough to stare down at the city with a bored expression instead of a terrified one. Progress.

“I’m Hinata, actually. The Crow isn’t my real name. Hinata Shouyou is.”

“No shit,” mumbled Atsumu. “I mean, nice to meet you, Shouyou-kun.”

Hinata’s stomach did a little swoop. Atsumu let out another sharp scream, and—oops. Hinata climbed back up in altitude. He needed to work on his concentration.

“So I’m being arrested?” asked Atsumu.

“Yup. Bank robbing is strictly illegal, you see.”

Atsumu ran a hand through his mussed up hair, and Hinata nearly dropped him another time. “Yeah, kind of figured,” he chuckled.

“You’re not upset?”

“Well, I’m trying to make it in town as one of the villains. Illegal things and getting arrested must be part of the territory, right?”

“Oh, is this your first time?”

“Yeah. Still getting the hang of things.”

“Oh,” said Hinata in wonder.

“You just let him go?” came Kageyama’s befuddled voice.

“He didn’t hurt anyone! And it was his first offense!”

He tried to shoot you!”

“Well, I told him to!”

Hinata could hear the thump of Kageyama’s head onto something hard—probably his desk. “Just come back to the base.”

“We keep meeting this way, Atsumu-san.”

Atsumu turned his head, catching a glimpse of Hinata’s black cape flapping behind him. Gods he was cute. Every part the hero.

“Shouyou-kun—I mean, the dreaded Crow! Right on cue.”

Atsumu glanced to his own reflection in a nearby window. Every hair in place. Good. Couldn’t be robbing banks looking like he’d just rolled out of bed, now could he? Not if Hinata was here.

“Drop the gun, Atsumu-san.”

Ah right. Atsumu tossed his gun aside and faced Hinata. “It doesn’t even hurt you though.”

“But it could hurt others.” Hinata took a step closer, and Atsumu felt a familiar rush of adrenaline. From the corner of his eye, Atsumu could see the bank customers scurrying away from them.

“C’mon, do you really believe I’d do that?” Atsumu stretched his empty hands leisurely behind his head, trying his hardest to keep them from shaking. That’d be decidedly uncool.

“I don’t know. Why do you keep trying to rob banks?” Hinata came another step closer, and Atsumu felt the tips of his ears heat up. Atsumu could lunge forward and grab Hinata’s hand, if he wanted to. And boy did he want to.

“Let’s just say I’m hoping to run into a certain someone each time.”

Hinata stopped just shy of Atsumu. He looked like he was fighting down a grin. “Really?”

“Yeah. It’s not exactly like I have your number. Yet, anyway.” Atsumu nodded towards the door. “Shall we get out of here?”

Notes:

Kageyama could be heard shouting “Boke!” over the earpiece until Hinata shut it off.

Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you liked this little fic! I would love to hear your thoughts. <3
