Work Text:
Water drips into the sink as it splashes layers of waves. Aki Izayoi or Aki Fudo as she was now known as, watches her own reflection on the water's surface being distorted silently. She grabs the blue towel by her side and begins to dry her wet, dark red hair. She removes the plug at the bottom of the sink as the water pours down the drain. She sighs as she open the bathroom door. Her wet feet let some water drop on the rug because she didn't dry it completely. She was too tired from working long hours into the night at the hospital and coming home when the sun starts to rise. Well, instead of the word 'home', maybe the 'residence' fits more in her situation. The apartment is placed at the top of a building in the center of Domino City. She moved here after she got married to Yusei Fudo.
"This place has a great view of the city." Aki said to herself as she looked at the view outside from her window.
The city light outside was a mix of white, orange, yellow, blue, and red, green. Half the sky was lit up and finally the darkness. The darkness at the top of the sky and in this room. Yusei was still sleeping in the next room. Her words were the only sound in the apartment, spread to every corner, with a bit loneliness. She took a red wine bottle and a glass out of the wine cabinet. She was hoping Yusei was awake to share it with her. Someone who should have been asleep opened his eyes quietly, and frowned looking at her back figure. He used one hand to hold up his body, and then stood up. The other hand seized Aki's waist, pulling her to stumble into their soft king size together. The glass fell on to the floor and the unfinished wine spread on the rug. But they didn't care. They had fun for one whole night and spent the rest of the day together until both of them has to go to bed so they could be ready for work in the morning.
When Yusei woke up the next morning, he saw the empty apartment. Empty glass, partly red rug and the bed sheet. It made his heart empty. He got up and got ready for the work and he walked into the kitchen. He saw the sandwiches sealed in the fridge. Pressing his forehead, he put the sandwiches in the microwave, waiting for it to heat up. He was thinking about the yellow sticky note Aki had left on the bedside for him. He knew she cared about him. Her tender and love, everything is inside her body. He knew, but he couldn't feel it. He just couldn't. For some reason, they got married because they needed someone in their life. They lived together so they could take care of each other. They even consummated their marriage. But he didn't feel like he was married. He was attracted to Aki, and he loved her without a doubt. Between them was true love. However, when he sees her emotionless tired expression, he has no word.
He knew she didn't show her emotion and he knew she had a hot blooded heart. He just couldn't ignore her outside expression and they let it come between them. In his heart, in his thoughts and by what he had been taught, marriage had a meaning. It is, when the husband came home from work, the wife would come out from the kitchen. She would hand him slippers, put up his bag and help him take off his coat, and then tell him what was for dinner. He knew these things wouldn't happen if he didn't marry Aki. He was willing to give up these things and he didn't even expect any of these from her. She was a hard working woman with lots of patients that needed her. But he couldn't help it. Her face, her hair, and her eyes with the sweetest smile he could imagine. He used all of his force to try and stop the thought, but it was like a violence eruption versus an underpass cover.
Yusei laid on the king sized bed by himself. He was too lazy to get up and pull the curtains of the window. The light came into the room. Empty. His hand brushed the bed sheet, where Aki normally slept. In his head was her red hair. The hair gave the waves that moved him. And, her lips with a beauty smile. The next morning he hid in the kitchen, listening to the sound of the key, whirling in the lock. Then the footsteps. And few minutes later, the sound of the water, the shower. Aki's hair wasn't dry yet, but she already fell onto the bed. She could feel a temperature that was still left on the sheet. She could smell his body's smell. It was very clean and refreshing. She also loved his eyes, those deep royal blues. She knew Yusei didn't like her being out all night working, but she thought working was the only use of her.
She tried to decrease her frequency of working all night as much as possible so she could spend more time with Yusei. He frowned looking at her tall thin back, then pulled his tie and walked back to the kitchen. He remembered the first time that she worked over night when she was living with him. The silence filled up the apartment. They weren't so talkative and they didn't work together. Even though they lived together, they still took care of each other. They understood each other, but they didn't try to hug. Although, they both loved the feeling when they came home, they will see the lights' on. They will see another doing their own stuff. They will say, "I am home." And get the response: "Welcome Home." How simple. Certainly, one sleeping with wet hair will get a cold. Doctor Fudo proved the theory once again. She rolled with the quilt and shrunk herself to a ball. Yusei grabbed a few pills from the medicine bottle, poured a glass of warm water, and gave it to Aki.
Aki used water to bring the pills to the stomach, then slowly taking sip of warm water from the glass. When she finished, she gave it back to Yusei, then lay down on her side to sleep. He was worried. He already felt this before, not long after they met. He never got a cold that was this serious. He has never seen anyone get the kind of cold that Aki had got. At any moment, he thought Aki would stop breathing because it looked like it was so hard for her to breath. He filled up the glass with warm water, and put the medicine bottle back in the medicine cabinet. He saw his wife sleeping like a kitty. His mind couldn't think, like there was a piece of paper covering it up. His moves are hard and robotic. He gets on to the bed and lays down next to his wife. Opening his arm, he gives her a hug. "Don't you know colds can be infected?" Aki asked as she trembled a bit. He doesn't response, but hugs her harder.
His forehead goes to her neck. Then he moves his lips close to her neck, feeling her hot body temperature. Aki was not the classic wife that he had imagined that she would be, but she would still do other things that a working wife could do. If she wasn't sick, she won't let him hug her like this either. He would still be the man who would protect his wife. As they said when they exchanged their vows, he would be there for her in sickness and in health. He couldn't control his feelings for her. They may never make this apartment fill up with the pitter patter of little feet and have a normal family, but they would like to in the near future.
They were vey romantic with each other. They sit together on the sofa and watch movies. They use their free time to bake together. She will sometimes hand him slippers, put up his bag or help him take off his coat. Almost every day he wakes up with her face close to his. He would sometimes wake up to an empty room because she had to work late. The sticky notes will always be the main communication between them to remind him of things if she was working late at the hospital. This was their new home now and it was home for the of two of them.
