Chapter Text
Your job was to stand behind a counter and pass out 'Life-Long Pass of Bonnie Bowl!' tickets. Too bad Bonnie wasn't a favorite among the children, and neither was bowling. Your days typically consisted of standing and reading through Reddit, occasionally chatting with Vanessa if she ever ventured over to your little corner of solitude. Today was one of those days; your finger was already flipping through random subreddits. Your eyes kept floating over to the clock in the corner every time you finished reading a post, anxiously waiting for when your next break would start; when Dave would take over for the next 2 hours. Once yesterday, a family of 3 came in for the ice-cream bar and promptly left after eating, not even bothering to give the bowling alley a glance, let alone you. Your eyes flew to the clock again, the minute hand barely moved.
Surely management won't mind if I take a bit of Monty Mix, would they? Knowing your boss, he would give you hell for taking a spoonful. So you went back to fidgeting and pacing behind your little counter in the corner, absently shuffling and reorganizing the tiny purple tickets.
When Dave walked in, you practically jumped up and ran out of the room, barely sporting the man a glance.
Your feet took you to the main atrium, children and parents eating pizza and watching the main crew perform their latest song. Large lights were rotating on the ceiling, bouncing light effects around the room; one moment it was white squiggles, then bright green disco lights. It was quickly giving you a headache. You sped walked out of the main room and entered the area above the Daycare.
You've never been over here, and currently it was quiet, as all the kids were watching Freddy and the gang perform. Perfect for the time being. You had pulled out a chair from a table when something below caught your eye, every so often you could see a figure passing through the netting and gaps between the play structures. Naturally, it piqued your interest, so your eyes scanned for way down into the play area. When your brown orbs settled on a long curly slide, your childish self immediately went barreling down it, not before scanning the room for potential adults or coworkers that could belittle you for not being professional.
It was a tighter fit than you expected, but you slide down into the ball pit, the colorful orbs scattering when your form hit the bottom. It was a lot deeper than you expected, the balls coming up to your hips while standing. Your eyes swung up and began looking for the mysterious person. Judging from your spot from the balcony, they were much larger than a snotty 3 year old. While wading through the multicolored pit, you took in the design of the area. It was huge; a large balcony over the ball bit. There didn't seem to be a way to get up to it however, which secretly disappointed you. The play area was covered in multicolored foam mats, the structures sporting cartoon faces of the main mascots. The walls stretched up, their faces decorated with different celestial patterns, such as stars, moons, and a large sun. Your feet hit the stairs out of the ball pit when you saw the figure again. From here you could tell it wasn't exactly human, per say. The figure you've been secretly stalking seemed to be a jester, its face looked like a sun, at least that's what you could gather from behind. An exposed silver panel was on the back of its head, some wires peaking out as well. It wore striped red and yellow pants, little bells tied around its neck, wrists, ankles, and on top of its curled shoes, which were yellow with a moon pattern. Fill lined its waist and neck.
Suddenly the character swirled around to face you, its face screwed up in a grin. You froze, your plan didn't consist of you interacting together. It laughed as he skipped towards you, his voice loud and childlike. He grabbed you from under the arms and he practically yelled in your face, "Hello! New friend! Hmm, your a little old to be in here, aren't you?" He set you down next to a colorful table with crayons and coloring books. "A friend is a friend! Do you like finger painting? Puppet shows?" He asked gleefully. Unable to form words, you forced out a mix between a nod and a shake. He quickly sat down on a small stool and pulled out 2 boxes of crayons from a small tub from below the table.
While the sun set up some coloring pages for you, your voice finally came back, "W-who are you?" you asked meekly. The sun didn't seem fazed by the question, if anything he somehow got even more hyper, "I'm the Daycare Assistant! People call me many things! Sun, Sunny, Sundrop, Sunrise, call me anything you want!"
Pointing to the opening coloring book, he loudly asked, "Are you having fun yet? Are ya?! Are ya?!"
Not wanting to disappoint Sun, you nodded, quickly taking a purple crayon and began filling Roxanne's mane. Sunny soon followed, starting to color in Freddy's bow tie. One page turned into 2, then 5. Soon you had almost filled in the entire book. Dumbfounded, you flipped through the entire book, all the pages neatly colored in. Sundrop laughed at your surprised face, his hand knocking over an open box of crayons, the sticks of wax scattering across the floor, "Oh no! Where's the blue? Where's the yellow? Clean up, clean up!" He shouted mostly to himself. Sunny threw himself to the ground and began snatching up the runaway crayons and stuffing them neatly back into their box. During Sunny's little cleaning spree, your phone went off, alerting you that you had 10 minutes of break left. Sunny noticed that you had stood up and neatly put away your crayon box and book. "Aww, leaving already? I thought we were having fun!" He cried, his hands gesturing to the table." Taken aback by his outburst, you quickly explained that you had to go back to your post in Bonnie Bowl, "I'm sorry, but I gotta go back to Bonnie Bowl, Sunny. I'll be back during my next break though!" you said happily. "Really! Oh that's great! When is your next break? Oh, please tell me! Please, please, please!" He begged, his eyes lighting up in excitement. "In 2 hours, I'll be back I promise." You finished, waving Sunny goodbye before turning around and leaving.
It seemed you had made a new friend, a very clingy one at that.
After that day, you made sure to visit Sunny as much as possible, as you soon grew a liking to his hyper personality.
