Chapter Text
Caroline woke to the sound of her phone vibrating on the bedside table. She ignored what was the first call to wake her but when it starting again, she reached for it. Bonnie’s name was lit up on the screen, a picture a few years old now accompanied it. When the screen once more went to black, she noticed a series of texts had been sent first.
They needed her help, something about a witch coven coming for Elena. Caroline sighed and turned off her phone completely. The only time she heard from her friends these days was when they needed something. She was growing tired of the charade.
“What is on your mind love?” A sinful voice asked.
Caroline turned to see that Klaus was lounging in a window seat, a steady stream of raindrops were obsocurung the view of Tokyo. She shook her head, “My presence is being requested in Mystic Falls.”
He hummed and got to his feet, wearing nothing but a pair of boxer, “Should I book us a flight for Virginia?”
She shook her head, “They’ve managed it this far without me. I am very content where I am.”
Klaus leaned down, giving her a languid kiss, “As am I.”
He crawled into the bed beside her, wrapping his arms around her, “I was thinking South America next.”
She nodded, “Perhaps you can show me that path with the hummingbird.”
“That was a few hundred years ago, love, that hummingbird is long gone.” He said against the top of her head, “But I’m sure the view will still be divine.”
“I cannot wait to see it.” She responded, her life feeling the most solid it had since she became a vampire, probably since her parents divorce truthfully.
A thousand year old vampire was the cause of her happiness. The one person in her life who kept their promises to her. She could no longer imagine another way to spend eternity. A smile graced her face, “I know what you should do when we get there.”
“Oh, and what might that be?” He asked, a teasing hint in his tone.
“Marry me.”
Klaus’ entire body stilled beneath her as he processed her words. Then, in a whisper said, “Are you certain?”
Caroline turned in his arms and looked into his eyes, “Niklaus Mikaelson, will you marry me?”
A wide grin erupted on his face, “Yes Caroline Forbes, I shall marry you.”
He then bent down once more, though this kiss was anything but slow. He only pulled away long enough to collect a small box from his luggage, inside was a priceless heirloom that would grace her ring finger until the end of her days and she couldn’t think of anything she’d like to do more.
