Work Text:
When Emma wore a brown jacket in the human world for the first time, she knew it would be her favorite outfit. She enjoyed the fluffiest on her jacket and had thanked her Gramps for getting it for her. He knew how much she liked the jacket and felt glad for her excitement. He had brought her many more brown jackets and she knew she would wear them all.
Her family knew how much she loved brown jackets too and would often make friendly comments of their approval on each brown jacket she wore everyday. However, they knew she was missing something very important from her wardrobe. Gilda was the first to make note of this and the others agreed with her. Emma did not know what she was missing as she was dragged to the shopping mall by Gilda and Anna.
“So… what am I missing?” Emma asked her two friends, curiously watching them go through racks of clothing.
“We don’t know… but it’s not here!” Anna told her, worried. “Don’t worry, we will find it.”
“Maybe I can-“
“No!” Gilda and Anna both refused her help. “Sorry, but it’s very important that you don’t know.”
Emma tilted her head to the side in confusion. If they didn’t want her to know, then why was she sitting as they looked through clothing sections? Maybe it was to distract her from the real gift? Emma decided she would go and find out, luckily she got a text message from her Gramps saying it was time to come back.
“I have to go home!” Emma announced, standing up suddenly. “Gramps needs me to help me with something important, good luck with your search!”
Emma ran back home to find Gramps nowhere in sight. She looked everywhere for him but couldn’t find him. Her phone buzzed again, getting a text message from Ray and Norman to meet them in Phil’s room. When she got there, she saw them sitting on the floor surrounded by toy trains.
“Emma!” Phil greeted, jumping up and hugging her.
“Phil!” Emma hugged him back, waving to the other two boys. “So, what do you guys need?”
Ray and Norman looked towards each other and then back at her. “We just wanted to know if you prefer coffee or milk?”
Emma laughed wholeheartedly. “That’s a weird question but I like tea… and carrot cake.”
“Wonderful!” Norman cheered, clapping his hands.
“Yes, very nice.” Ray told her, clapping along with Norman.
Emma smiled before hearing her name being called. “I gotta go, see you later!”
Emma went downstairs and was immediately tackled to the floor by a younger child. “EMMMAAA!”
“CHRISSSS!” Emma yelled out in excitement, hugging him tightly.
They played with each other for a long while until they saw Gilda and Anna come through the front door. Emma took note of how exhausted they looked. She wanted them to get proper rest after their long shopping trip.
“Before you say anything, we have a surprise for you!” Gilda smiled, stepping aside to reveal all her family members and friends surrounding her, including her Gramps.
Gillian gave her the gift box, excitedly. “I think you’ll like it very much, Emma!”
With the support of all her family and friends, she opened the gift box to find another brown jacket with tigers on the back of it. Emma’s eyes shined as she knew this was what she was missing all along, tigers on brown jackets.
Emma smiled wholeheartedly at the people around her, immediately putting the tiger print jacket over her other one. “Thank you, everyone! I will remember this for the rest of my days, hopefully I won’t forget, but I’m pretty sure I won’t.”
“Merry Christmas, Emma!”
Emma continued to smile, happiness within her. She had gotten the perfect gift, it was all she ever wanted after seeing someone cool wear it one day, but getting a handmade one was even better. She truly would never forget this day for as long as she would live.
“Merry Christmas!”
