Work Text:

The sky was as black as ink as Wild lay against a hill somewhere in Hateno. There wasn’t a single sound except for that of nature blowing by him. It was silent, peaceful, something he grew used to in Hyrule. He never got to enjoy it as often as he yearned to, his love for adventure always overriding the chance to lay in an empty field and watch the stars form different constellations in the sky.

Wild exhaled an exasperated sigh and turned to find the weird wolf curled up next to him, sleeping soundly. He smiled and ruffled his fur gently. It always baffled him that his trusty wolf companion was a hero like him; the Hero of Twilight. Twilight nuzzled the feeling of Wild’s hand in his fur and leaned into the touch, bringing him a sense of safety and comfort.

“You awake, big guy?” Wild asked, chuckling to himself.

Twilight slowly raised his head, his eyes drowsy as he gazed at Wild.

“Mmghh shut up ‘n let me sleep,” Twilight groaned as his form reverted to that of a hylian.

Wild let out a laugh, his voice echoing in the night as Twilight groaned louder, running a hand through his hair.

“Tell me, how is it my fault you’re awake?” Wild asked, still laughing.

Twilight shot him a look and shook his head, a small smile making its way onto his lips.

“Clearly it’s yours, since you just so happened to run your hand through my fur and then rob me of that feelin’!” Twilight teased, much more awake than before.

Wild sent his older brother companion a playful glare, heaving a sigh as he sat up properly from his former position, laying on his back. Twilight shook his head and laughed, ruffling the younger hero’s hair as he stared up at the starry night sky.

Wild stared at him and watched the stars reflect against his royal blue eyes, those eyes that held a certain look- that of a proud, feral beast. He took note of how each star shone brightly in his eyes, each one glimmering like a diamond. Wild admired his companion and how, even at peace, he still seemed so strong and so respectable; so courageous. Something inside of the champion tugged at his heartstrings, urging him to become better, stronger, more courageous.

For Zelda’s sake.

For his sake.

For Hyrule’s sake.

Wild was determined to become just like Twilight; strong, courageous, brave, powerful, yet nothing short of a role model. And of course, that was his drive to become that legendary hero, the fabled Hero of Hyrule that he sought out to be a century ago. Despite the Great Calamity stopping him temporarily, he would get back on his feet and train once again, now with more people to help him on his journey, to return Hyrule to its former glory of a century long passed.

“-ub! Hey!” Wild blinked and stared at Twilight for a moment before he recollected his thoughts.

“Whu-” Wild stammered dumbly.

“You zoned out on me, I thought you remembered another thing from a century ago…” Twilight expressed, his worry now evident in those courageous eyes of his.

Wild shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.

“Ah- no, sorry… I was just thinking about everything and how far I’ve come since I woke up, that’s all…” he explained, staring down at the blades of grass poking his thigh.

Twilight knew that wasn’t the case, but knew better than to press on those matters. It was a quiet and peaceful night, and he was intent on keeping it that way.

“Well, the stars are out tonight. Do you know any blaring constellations?” Twilight asked, raising a curious eyebrow.

Wild shook his head in embarrassment,

“Unfortunately not… I never bothered to sit down and learn all of them,” he confessed guiltily.

Twilight’s lips curved into a grin and he pointed Wild’s attention to a bunch of stars in a circle.

“You see that constellation? Those are the Horns of Ordona, one of the Light Spirits from my Hyrule,” Twilight explained, his eyes gleaming with ecstasy at the mention of the spirit.

Wild deadpanned and gave Twilight the most unimpressed look he could muster.

“Rancher, that’s a fucking circle of bright stars, you moron.”

Twilight looked offended.

“Well excuse me, Cub! That’s not just a “circle of bright stars”, that’s the shape of the Light Spirit Ordona’s horns!! Don’t ya go dissing the god of goats in front o’ me!” he sassed.

Wild burst into a fit of laughter at the look on his face, even more so at the imitation of Wild mentioning the so-called constellation. Twilight grew flustered very quickly over Wild’s reaction which only served as more laughter juice for the champion.

“I’M SERIOUS HERE!”

Wild couldn’t stop laughing; tears formed in his eyes in a matter of seconds.

“WILD-”

“Okay oKAY!! I’m sorry!!” Wild exclaimed, wiping away the tears in his eyes from how hard he laughed.

Twilight huffed like a sassy child, turning his head away from the younger hero.

“You’re serious here? Ordona is the god of goats??” Wild asked, trying to keep his laughter composed.

“No, I’m kidding- OF COURSE I’M SERIOUS HERE, YOU BRAT!!” Twilight shouted, his face flaming red at Wild’s antics.

Wild only wheezed furthermore, not at all taking his companion seriously.

“Oh, for the love of Farore- WILD WOULD YOU STOP LAUGHING?!” Twilight complained, trying to keep his own laughter from escaping him.

Wild shook his head and waved his hand in denial, words failing to reach him as his laughter engulfed him whole. Twilight felt a laugh escape his lips before he, too, was engulfed in laughter.

Thus, the silence of the night had been suddenly filled with undying laughter from both heroes at the mere mention of an entity that Twilight had called “the God of Goats”.

Who wouldn’t laugh at that if it was mentioned to them? It sounded surreal!

Ordona, the Spirit of Light, now dubbed the God of Goats. Who in their right mind wouldn’t crack up a laugh at that kind of name?

Clearly Wild did, and that served as ignition to make Twilight laugh, something Wild was always fond of listening to.

It was rare to hear him laugh, since he always held his head so high and only focused on helping the champion in his travels. Whether it was guiding him through puzzles, helping him hunt down food and monsters, or helping him rest up for the next quest. Twilight wasn’t one to smile frequently, but when he did, Wild knew to savour that moment, else it would be his last.

But that wasn’t something Wild wanted to think about right now. The only thing on his mind was resting with someone he could share everything with; from his pain to his joy, his tears to his laughs. Anything and everything, anyone could name it.

“So, now that that’s over with, what other constellations do you know?” Wild asked, much calmer than before.

Twilight craned his neck up to the sky and watched each star twinkle about in the inky sky before his eyes grew wide in excitement.

“Look over there,” Wild followed where the finger pointed and his eyes grew wide in awe. “Look at what a beauty she is.”

The constellation of the Blade of Evil’s Bane shone brightly in the sky, overpowering the other constellations surrounding it. But that was to be expected, as it was the Master Sword. Even as a constellation, its light shines bright on the world, illuminating a brilliant pathway for those in danger or lost, giving them a sort of guide to follow.

“She’s gorgeous…” Wild gasped, awestruck.

“That she is…” Twilight remarked, in just as much awe.

Wild grinned and unsheathed the blade from his back, examining it carefully. Twilight took note of the pride Wild held in his eyes as his grip on its hilt tightened. Twilight had known that exact feeling coursing through Wild eras ago, back when he first grasped the blade in his hand. Twilight smiled at the memory, his eyes fleeting back to his own Master Sword sheathed against his back.

“Was she powerful?” Twilight looked up and gave Wild a confused look.

“What do you mean, Champ?” he asked.

“When you first got hold of the Master Sword on your adventure, was she powerful?” Wild clarified, gazing off at the stars twinkling in the sky.

Twilight followed his lead and heaved a sigh, unconsciously searching for more constellations he knew and recognized.

“She could cut water if I wanted her to, if that gives you any idea of her strength,” Twilight answered as his eyes fell upon another constellation he knew.

This time, it wasn’t of any entity specifically, rather a string of notes. A song.

The Song of Healing, to be precise.

“See that string of stars? Play it and it gives you a tune that can heal any and all wounds, no matter how small or how grave,” Twilight explained, his voice filled with a certain longing.

Wild didn’t catch onto it, but he felt calm just thinking about the song itself.

“How do you know about it?” Wild inquired.

“The Hero of Time taught it to me,” Twilight answered, smiling at the mention of his father.

Wild caught the look of longing in Twilight’s eyes and knew from the mere mention of the name, whoever he was, the Hero of Time was someone important in the rancher’s life.

Wild went on searching himself for constellations he recognized before his eyes burst into excitement.

“Look!! Over there!!” Twilight followed to where Wild pointed. “That’s the Triforce!!!”

Twilight’s eyes grew wide in surprise at the sight of the three triangles together.

Power.

Wisdom.

Courage.

Those three elements were held by a stable balance in each Hyrule, guarded by Hylia, a gift from the Elder Gods; Din, Farore and Nayru.

It always baffled Twilight to see the symbol of the gods in the sky, but he knew that it was meant to be a means of protection for those chosen by the gods to carry out their will. And he knew that it was also meant to shine down on those who were lost on their path in the darkness, in need of guidance on their travels.

The Triforce did seem to grant wishes from the deepest depths of the heart, after all.

Wild stared at the constellation in absolute awe, the stars reflecting in his silent princess-esc eyes. Twilight smiled at the look and sighed in content.

‘The stars shine brighter in your eyes, huh?’
