Dancing in a Snowglobe (Round and Round)

Summary:

" He was almost taken aback, despite expecting you, when you knocked on his door with a gift bag in your hands. His shoulders sagged with relief, and he was exuberant that he hadn’t been reading this whole situation completely wrong.

“Take a seat!” He grinned, gesturing to one of the two plush chairs across from his desk, and he joined you in the seat opposite it."

As the holidays draw near, Keigo can’t stop thinking about you. He’s racked his brain, trying to find a good excuse to give you the perfect gift, but little does he know you have a present for him as well.

Work Text:

Moments alone in his office were rare, and something that Keigo treasured deeply. He was taking the time to indulge in his favorite guilty pleasure as of late- admiring the selfie he took with you a couple of months ago. He had already emailed the perfect version to you, where he had agonized for days over adjustments in the highlights, shadows, vibrance, and more. It was a work of art, if he could say so himself.

He had also given a few of the other photos the same treatment, and his personal favorite was the one of him looking over at you, while you smiled sweetly and blissfully unaware for the camera. Keigo was itching to print a few off, to find excuses to take more photos with you and fill his whole office with them. He didn’t want to come off too strong, or creep you out though, so he settled for grinning at his camera roll and setting his favorite as the home screen to his phone.

The usual hustle of the office was dying down, and Keigo was mentally bracing himself to handle the Christmas work, mostly alone. He had volunteered for the majority of the shifts on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, wanting his employees and side-kicks to be able to spend time with their families, and he was closing the office for a few days.

Keigo had sent you a message a couple of days before, asking you to stop by his office before you clocked out of work on the 23rd, but specified that there was nothing to worry about and it wasn’t anything serious.

He was almost taken aback, despite expecting you, when you knocked on his door with a gift bag in your hands. His shoulders sagged with relief, and he was exuberant that he hadn’t been reading this whole situation completely wrong.

“Take a seat!” He grinned, gesturing to one of the two plush chairs across from his desk, and he joined you in the seat opposite it.  “In the spirit of the holidays, I wanted to give you something. I saw these when I was out the other day, and thought of you.”

He watched with laser focus as you took the bag that he had painstakingly picked out and fluffed with beautiful tissue paper. You retrieved the black velvet box nestled inside, and swelled with pride at your startled gasp.

Your fingers shakily opened the clasp, reveling a matching set of ear cuffs. The metal was beautifully wrought gold, carefully molded into delicate filigree curves nestled with glittering garnets, and a singular feather charm dangled from each cuff.

“They’re beautiful,” You whispered in awe. “But I don’t know if I can accept such an expensive gift. These must have cost a fortune.”

“Nonsense.” He countered. “The cost doesn’t matter because they’re a gift, and I think they suit you. I want you to have them.”

You sighed, and fumbled with them, not able to quite get them situated comfortably. It was adorable, but Keigo did lean over and slip them on correctly, so that the curved metal fit perfectly around the shell of your ears and the charm dangled freely.

You were still, and Keigo would be lying if he said that he didn’t enjoy the startled, wide-eyed expression on your face. He was quite pleased with his choice of gift, and he was even more secretly pleased to have found a way to  combine a Christmas gift with a serendipitous Oseibo gift as well.

“You look stunning.” He couldn’t take his eyes off of you, with the tendrils of metal just barely framing your face.

You froze again, ducking your head to fiddle with the gift bag on the floor. “Thank you.” Your voice sounded almost caught in your throat before you finally handed over his own present.

“It’s not much, but I thought your office looked a little empty and I wanted to spread the holiday cheer.”

Excitedly, he couldn’t resist diving into the tissue paper, carefully pulling it out and tossing it back onto his desk. The first of the myriad of wrapped items was a pair of snow globes. One had his own likeness on the inside, posing perfectly amidst the swirling snow. The second snow globe had two generic figures on the inside.

“Here.” You gently took the second snow globe from his grasp, and delicately found a knob to wind up. The two people waltz along a pre-set path, with soft music twinkling.

“They’re beautiful.” He murmured, transfixed until the movement and music stopped. He delicately set the back on his desk, and grabbed the next item. An ornate picture frame with sections for a couple of photos was next, followed by a little plaque that read “Best Hero”, and a framed art poster print.

“I love them, they're all perfect.” Keigo felt like his heart would burst as his chest swelled with affection. You were so thoughtful, and so kind. He was so lucky to know you, let alone even entertain the possibility that you may feel the same way.

“I’m glad.” You grinned. “Happy Holidays, Hawks.”

You got up, and started for the door before turning on your heel. You wrapped your arms under his, squeezing him in a firm hug before darting out the door. He couldn’t wait to see you after the holidays.

Notes:

Fingers crossed I can have the last few in the series up soon! Man, it's been a busy time lol. My mom last minute decided to have all of my vaccinated relatives over for New Year's Day dinner, I took a 2-hour trip to visit my best friend's farm, and had to get parts for my car for my dad to fix. I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's Eve/Day, and if you're in an area with severe weather, please stay safe and warm!
