"I can't believe we are finally going to live together! this is so exciting!!", cheered Ashido, raising her fist in the air.
"Yeah, seems super exciting...", said Mineta, a smug grin on his face. Everybody turned to face him, disapproval on their faces. Mineta just shrugged. This guy...
"I wonder what our dorm allocations are", wondered Kirishima.
"Whatever it is I hope i'm next to Tsuyu-chan~ !", Uraraka gushed. Asui glanced in her direction, a light pink dotting her cheeks.
Everyone was super glad to be moving into the dorms, but nobody could be happier than Todoroki. Of course he didn't express his joy, but deep inside he was happy to be away from Endeavour. Away from that father whom he had hated, but had only recently come to accept. And that was all because of Midoriya Izuku.
During the sports festival, it was Midoriya who urged Todoroki. Who made Todoroki understand. Who allowed him to understand the importance of himself. Who let him see his left half not as the curse bestowed upon him by his No.2 Hero father, but as his own power.
His own quirk.
Midoriya’s glowing green eyes, surging with hope and determination set a spark in Todoroki. Well, literally.
He had come to quite like that guy. His bright smile. His persistent demeanour. His green fluffy hair.
Oh, how bad he wanted to touch that green fluffy hair.
In a matter of days, with the alarming amount of time Midoriya spent in Todoroki’s headspace, Todoroki realised that his feelings were not exactly, well, platonic.
When Aizawa told the class their dorm allocations, Todoroki was surprised to find that his room was beside Midoriya’s! He turned to find the boy and caught his eye. Midoriya gave him a sheepish grin.
He’s so cute.
Way to go Shouto. Falling for the ever popular Midoriya Izuku was just ideal! He probably just thinks of you as one of his many friends.
Todoroki forced himself out of his thoughts to return a small smile to Midoriya.
-
Kirishima was treating the class to a BBQ party! Todoroki put on a simple sweatshirt and jeans and headed down to the venue. He searched the crowd for the familiar head of green hair but he couldn’t see it anywhere. He spotted Uraraka standing at a corner with Iida.
“Where’s Midoriya?”, he questioned, walking over to them.
“Ah Deku-kun said he wasn’t feeling too well”, Uraraka responded. Iida nodded.
“Let’s go to that table Todoroki-san”, Iida said pointing at the long table where Bakugo and Kirishima were obviously bickering about something.
-
Dinner was great.
But somehow without Midoriya, it felt oddly empty.
Todoroki trudged back to his dorm, exhausted from all the moving. As he was about to enter his room, he heard soft stifled sobs coming from next door.
Midoriya.
A wave of worry washed over Todoroki.
What happened to Midoriya? Maybe he should go check on him.
No. Maybe he just wants to be alone right now. I should give him some space. I’ll check on him tomorrow at school.
With that, Todoroki hesitantly convinced himself to go back to his dorm, resisting the urge to check on Midoriya.
-
Having only gotten about three hours' sleep, Todoroki grumbled as the light filtered through the window. His thoughts kept wandering to the same thing as he awoke.
Midoriya.
Todoroki got dressed and headed down to the cafeteria to grab breakfast before going to class.
“Good morning”, said Todoroki as he sat down next to Bakugo.
“Mornin…”, said Bakugo, his voice barely above a whisper.
Huh. Where was that loud, boisterous voice?
Todoroki looked up to find a bemusing sight. He suppressed a smile.
Kirishima was next to Bakugo.
Except that he was asleep.
With his head resting on Bakugo’s shoulder.
Wow. Who would have thought Bakugo would allow that?
“Did you see Midoriya?”, Todoroki questioned, feigning ignorance.
“Why would I care about that fucker Deku”, Bakugo spat.
“Besides, why are you so concerned? Heard you asking around about him yesterday. What is he, your little boyfriend?”
Todoroki averted Bakugo's piercing gaze.
“Well I can certainly see your boyfriend”, Todoroki retaliated, glancing at Kirishima.
Bakugo turned beet red. Todoroki couldn’t tell if it was from anger or embarrassment.
Time to go!
“Okay I got to head to class, bye”, Todoroki muttered, quickly getting up before he had to face the wrath of Bakugo.
-
Todoroki made his way to his seat. He surveyed the classroom.
Huh. Midoriya was later than usual.
Midoriya shuffled into class, shoulders slumped.
Speak of the Devil.
Except Midoriya was an angel.
Todoroki gazed at Midoriya. There was a slight redness under his eyes.
So he had been crying.
"Hey Midoriya, are you feeling okay?", Todoroki prompted, tapping Midoriya's shoulder.
Midoriya turned around and gave a weary smile. He looked drained.
"I'm fine Todoroki-kun. Thanks for asking!", he said with somewhat a note of finality in his voice.
Todoroki reasoned Midoriya didn't really want to talk about what was going on with him.
-
It was nighttime again. Everyone was chatting amicably in the common room.
Well except for Bakugo and Kirishima. Don't know where those two were.
Midoriya wasn't there either.
A pang of guilt hit Todoroki.
Todoroki couldn't stand being in the common room. He had to check on Midoriya.
He bid everybody goodbye and went towards the dorms.
-
There it was again.
Those soft, suppressed sobs. It was heart-wrenching. Todoroki could not take it anymore.
"Midoriya?", Todoroki said softly, knocking on the door. "Do you want to talk?"
The shifting of things was heard from inside the room. After a few seconds, the lock clicked upon.
There at the doorframe stood Midoriya.
His eyes were bloodshot and puffy. He was hastily wiping his face with the sleeve of his hoodie. His whole body was trembling.
He looked terrible.
Todoroki's body acted on its own.
He enveloped Midoriya into a tight hug.
At first Midoriya tensed up at the touch, but slowly he melted into Todoroki's arms. He buried his face into the crook of Todoroki's neck and gut-wrenching sobs tore through his chest.
"Hey there, it's okay. Let it all out", Todoroki comforted, tracing shapes into Midoriya's back.
After a few minutes, Midoriya settled down. He beckoned Todoroki to the bed and they both sat in a comfortable silence.
Midoriya's throat tightened and he took a sharp intake of breath.
"I... um... I... this is silly", he stuttered between gasps of breath.
"It's fine. You can tell me if you are comfortable with it", Todoroki whispered patting Midoriya's shoulder.
Midoriya gave him a slight smile.
"I... It's just... What if... What if I can't become the No.1 Hero?", he squeaked.
"Now All Might is all gone an-and I just... I.. Oh I don't know", he sighed.
His words broke up and all he could say were stuttering sounds.
Hot tears streamed down his face, and he squeezed his eyelids shut in the hope his tears would stop.
Todoroki didn't understand what Midoriya was worrying about but nonetheless he once again warmly embraced the boy.
"Shh, it will be fine", Todoroki reassured, combing through tufts of Midoriya's hair.
It was soft. Just like he imagined.
Midoriya sniffled, calming down and closing his eyes. He felt an odd sort of comfort laying in Todoroki's arms.
It felt like everything would be fine, as long as Todoroki was by his side.
"Thank you Todoroki-kun", hiccuped Midoriya.
Someday maybe i'll be able to tell you the reason I was crying.
"Don't mention it", whispered Todoroki, sorting through Midoriya's tangles.
Just like that, they lay in comfortable silence.
Each other's company was enough.
"You know", Todoroki started.
"I'm here for you."
"Always."
