It’s Summer, an ideal time to come and visit Porthaven.
Luz remembered what Willow and Gus wrote to them about what the summer season looks like in Porthaven.
Flowers bloom everywhere, The streets were filled with tourists admiring the view of the town. The sweet smell of fruitcakes and pudding filled the air, Some townsfolk would give them free desserts, clothes, or toys. Every shop would have a sale, The sun would always shine bright without even a dark cloud in sight, The sea glistened beautifully every day at the beach nearby, But Gus and Willow said that the best thing in Summer is always going to be the Summer festival, Its a farmer's market but they have a play, dancing, and mini-games to win bragging rights. They would also have a talent show to show off any cool tricks that they have and contestants would get a little prize for participating.
Today's the first day of March, the perfect time to go and visit Porthaven and maybe fix their childhood beach house that they had for 10 years now as well.
" Luz!, Are you finished packing!? " Vee shouted from the living room, " I'm coming! " Luz answered, swiftly putting on their beanie and running down the stairs with their luggage. " That’s a lot of luggage Vee," Luz said looking at their sister carrying five bags, " I would say that your the one who has too little luggage, I mean we're going to Porthaven for seven months counting March " Vee continued " I'm also willing to bet there are more Azura books than clothes", " No comment on that besides I can just buy clothes at Porthaven, but we don't know if Porthaven has Azura the good witch book series!" Luz reasoned with their sister. " I guess you’re kinda right but you should've packed more clothes anyways" " Where's mami? " Luz asked, hoping to change the subject. " She's at the driveway preparing the car for the nine hours trip there" " Then let’s go see her and put our luggage in the trunk " Luz suggested, Vee nodded and they both started walking to the driveway. "I’m so hyped for this trip! We're going back to our childhood town, meeting Gus and Willow, and we're going to have so much fun! " Luz said excitedly while they and Vee walk to the driveway. , " Oh definitely! , I loved those fruitcakes as a kid maybe this time I can ask for the recipe and we can make it at home! " Vee reminisces. " But right now after we eat breakfast and get in the car, I'm looking at the amazing views and sleeping for most of the trip, " Vee said, " Or we can play eye spy, twenty questions, and other road trip games! " Luz chattered enthusiastically " Ok fine, But after that, I'm sleeping," Vee said clipping her two hair clips onto her hair. " Luz! Vee! Over here Mijas! " Camila spoke as she was putting the final things in the trunk of the car. Both Luz and Vee quickly ran to the Purple Subaru Outback that Camila rented and put their luggage in.
" All right Cariños, What would you like for breakfast, " Camila asked, closing the car trunk down. " Eggs and Bacon! " Luz shouted with excitement, " Aren't we going to be late if we eat breakfast? " Vee asked " No Mija, We leave at six-thirty It’s only six o'clock. A little breakfast would be fine " Camila told Vee as they all went inside the house. " So what do you want to eat? " Camila asked Vee while taking out the eggs and bacon from the refrigerator. " I’ll have the same as Luz, " Vee answered and went to sit with Luz at the dining table. Camila fried the eggs and bacon and put them on the plates. " Here you go, " Camila said putting two plates on the dining table. " The eggs and bacon have faces! " Luz exclaimed, The plate of eggs and bacon has a smiley face with the fried eggs as eyes and bacon as the mouth. When they finished eating, they washed their dishes and walked to the front door. Camila locked the door and they went to the car. Luz and Vee sat in the back with the pile of stuffed dolls.
"All right, Are you guys ready? " Camila asked as she starts the car. " Yeah! " Vee and Luz said with excitement, "All right, Put on your seatbelts and let’s get this show on the road " Luz and Vee both put on their seatbelts and Camila starts driving.
"Let’s play, eye spy! " Luz exclaimed, It’s been 3 hours. They’re on the highway and The traffic is quite heavy and Luz is bored. " Ok!, You start though, " Vee said "All right I spy with my little eye, Something that starts with a… R! " Luz spoke as they saw an American robin on the sign of Connecticut. " R?, The raccoon right there? " Vee guessed as she pointed to a raccoon washing its food " Nope!, But cool find " " The red range rover behind us? " Vee guessed again " No, Not even close " Luz said, They looked at the car window to see if the American Robin is still there, The American Robin is still walking on the Connecticut sign. Vee looked at the window Luz was staring at and guessed " Is it the robin on the Connecticut sign? " " Yep! " Luz said " If you didn't stare at the robin, I probably wouldn't have guessed it" " I had a chance to win, but I needed to see if it was still there, so it'll be fair play " The cars started moving and the loud noise scared the robin, The gray bird with warm orange underparts flew away. " Your turn! " "All right, I spy with my little eye something that starts with B! " Vee said, " Ok, ok " Luz looked around " Is it this bag? " They guessed, holding the bag filled with their lunches. " Nope! " " Uh, The balloons flying over the sky right now? Wait, What!? ", Vee and Luz scurried over to the car windows to see tens of thousands of balloons floating in the sky, " Mom!, Look at the sky! " Vee said enthusiastically. " I see it Mija, Isn’t it colorful? ", The balloons came in all colors, red orange yellow green blue purple pink, and white, The sunshine reflected on the thousands of the balloons, No clouds in the sky to block the perfect view. Luz took out their phone and took a photo of the scenery. " Anyways, What was the eye spy answer? " Luz asked when the car started to move." It was the bridge in front " Vee said. " Aw, I probably could’ve guessed it if it wasn’t for the balloons distraction, " Luz said grabbing a turtle doll beside them. " Maybe, that was the plan all along, " Vee said playfully. " Oh come on! , That was just dumb luck " " Hey, You were the one who suggested the game, Sore loser " Vee said and shifted her position to lay on the pile of stuffed dolls. " Mami, How many more hours till we get to Porthaven? " Luz asked piling more dolls on Vee. " About seven more hours cariño, also please don’t pile dolls on your sister; she’ll suffocate," Camila said, making a left turn. " Fine, Vee, You may come out of the stuffed dolls pile, " Luz said as they took Vee’s hand and pulled her out, " Remind me to never lay in the pile ever again, " Vee exclaimed while shifting her sitting position to the middle part of the seat." Eh, maybe, anyways let’s play Twenty questions! "
"You’re still going with the road trip games? " " Yep!, Anyways it’s an animal, " Luz said, " Ok then, uh first question is it a sea animal? " " Nope! " " Second question, Is it a pet? " " They can be, kinda " " Does it fly? " " No " " Is it poisonous? " " Some of them? " " Did you use it for a book assignment and then it bit the principal? " " That is a personal offense but yeah " " Is it a snake? " " Correct! , I would also like to add that the snake was a garter snake and the principal is hopefully fine " Luz complained, " Besides, We’re eighteen now. We probably won’t see him unless he knocks on our front door "," Running away from your problem, again?, " Vee interjected " Hey! I already apologized and tone downed the real-life snakes a little after that " Luz spoke with saltiness in their voice. Vee continued " Anyways, My turn now, It’s an object " " Is it in this car? " " Yes " Luz looked around the car. The pile of dolls at the side of Vee, The paper bag filled with their lunch boxes sitting in the front seat. The luggage behind their seats. The bobblehead of Baymax is on the dashboard of the car, Their yellow bag next to them. " Uh…All right, Is it in the front?" " No ", " That doesn’t narrow it down " Luz murmured " Is it near me? " " Yes " Luz looked around again, but more carefully. The small alarm clock on the floor flashed 11.20 AM. In front of them is their photobook Camila gave them to fill up with photos and a vintage camera, It's in the map pocket. " The photobook? " " Almost, but no " " then it's gotta be the camera! " " Yep, It took a while for something in front of your face," Vee said. " Well the object category is hard " Luz countered " Valid point, " Vee said, zipping her blue jacket up.
Another hour has passed, Camila parked the car at the gas station. " It's lunchtime, I think the bathroom is right there. It's going to be a long trip with no breaks after this " Camila said and handed them their lunch boxes from the paper bag. The lunch box contains utensils, spaghetti, a fruit cup, and chicken strips. " I got the chocolate milk! " Vee said " I got fruit juice? , Why did you get the chocolate milk " " I helped mom pack the lunch while you were probably sleeping in your room " " Well I could've helped if you woke me up " Luz murmured eating their spaghetti, " Trust me I tried but only the alarm clock would wake you up " Vee said, " Or you didn't try hard enough " " I tried to shake you, shouting, What did you want me to do? Bang the pots and pans together? " " Try that next time, The point I'm trying to make is why didn't I get chocolate milk like you " " Easy I was the person who chose the drink there was chocolate milk and fruit juice, of course, I'm going to pick my favorite " " I will have my revenge! " Luz joked after everyone ate. " Does anyone need to go to the bathroom? " Camila asked, " I'll go, just in case, " Vee said unbuckling her seatbelt and Luz opened their side of the door. " I don't want to collect those dolls if they fall out of the car " Luz mumbled. Vee walked out of the car. " Are you sure you don't want to go Mija? " " Yep I'm sure " " Alright, Can you look after the car while I go? " " Yep yep," Luz said nonchalantly, Camila opened the car door and walked out. Luz opened their phone and started scrolling through their social media to cure their boredom. The door suddenly opened, " Boo! " " Shit! " Luz jolted awake from zoning out. " Maybe I could've woke you up with that " Vee laughed and sat in her same spot. " Did you tell Gus and Willow that we're coming yet? " Vee asked pulling out her phone, " No, I want to surprise them, " Luz said, crossing their legs." You can't surprise them if you don't know where they are " " Gus wrote to me about how he got a job as a coffee shop worker and sometimes magician and Willow works at her fathers' flower shop, so there I have it all planned out " " What's the coffee shop name? " Vee asked, taking a cat doll from the pile and putting it on her lap. " I now agree with mami that we have to do some doll control because I think that's too much and The coffee shop Gus works at is..uh... " Camila opened the car door " I'm back! Are we all ready to go? ", She exclaimed " Yes! " " Yep " They answered. They started moving again. " I don't remember but there's probably only one coffee shop in town, so hopefully it's going to be fine, " Luz said. " If you say so, anyway I'm sleeping for the last three hours. Wake me up if there's anything exciting " Vee murmured and leaned on the pile of dolls. " Mami, Can I have the aux cord? " Luz asked " Here you go " Camila handed her the aux cord. Luz plugged it in their phone and opened their playlist and also took a nap leaning themself on the window.
