“Hancock.”
Hancock groaned, eyes fluttering as the insistent call of her name breached past the thick fog of sleep to enter her mind. “Hancock,” the voice said again, punctuated by a wheedling whine. A tired smile graced her lips, recognizing that whine more than the voice speaking her name, and she slowly cracked her eyes open. Luffy perched like a little monkey at the end of her bed, black eyes shining in the pre-dawn light.
“Now what are you doing down there?” she hummed, propping up her head in her hand and gazing down the length of the bed at him. Luffy usually awoke at dawn to head to the sea. He’d retired to Amazon Lily to stay with Hancock after attaining his title, King of the Pirates, and exploring as much of the ocean as he could. “I figured you’d be down at the docks watching the sun rise.”
“Dun wanna,” he huffed simply, prompting Hancock to arch and eyebrow. He rocked back and forth on his heels, making the end of the mattress dip back and forth with this shifting weight. “Went down there, but I came back.”
“Because...?”
“Because I wanna snuggle!” he said with a childlike pout and made grabby hands at her. Hancock tipped back her head with a laugh. Though Luffy was nearly in his thirties, hair longer and a beard clinging to his chin, he was still as cute as ever. Humming contentedly, Hancock lifted the covers, motioning for him to rejoin her in their warm embrace. Luffy slithered in like a snake, smiling broadly and nuzzling into her neck. She swept her long hair away to keep it from being trapped under his head, then began to play with his own ebony locks.
“Better?” she laughed when he released a satisfied hum.
“Yeah. Warm ‘n cozy,” he said softly. Hancock chuckled gently, petting his soft hair. Luffy began to doze peacefully in her embrace, snoring gently. Hancock rested her cheek atop his head, gazing drowsily at the light filtering in through the window. Lulled by the heat of her beloved wrapping around her-- as he subconsciously looped his legs over hers to cling to her like a koala-- Hancock’s eyes drifted close. She loved the peaceful mornings like this the most, just dozing in the warm sunlight and holding one another close. Warm and cozy and in love.
