Chapter 1: Meeting

Chapter Text

“Eat this!”
The boy says, Holding out a single flower between his fingers, the petals as red as his cheeks and identical to the others sprouting from his head amongst the exuberant viridian curls.

“Sorry, what?”

“You heard me! Chow down! I can feel your pain for miles I'm surprised you haven't keeled over! Goodness, how are you even standing!”

“Uh well, I...”
The man Yagi Toshinori number one hero and proclaimed symbol of peace was at a loss for words, This strange young man who hardly looked older than twelve was telling him to eat a flower so the Pro hero was at a loss for words but simultaneously, his brain was flooded with questions.

How did the boy know he was injured, it was a deeply hidden state secret?

Why is he wanting to heal him?

How does he know?

What else does this boy know about him?

How?!

His train of thoughts was brought to a stop as a disruption on the tracks in the form of a young boy came forth.

“Hey, Mr skeleton are you okay? You look a little spacey”
“I'm alright young boy I'm just a tad confused at what you are trying to convey?”.

The boy blushed “Oh hah sorry I guess I don't make much sense do I ?” he stuck out his hand,

“Midoriya, Midoriya Izuku” he took Toshinori's hand in a firm grasp shaking before abruptly dropping it.

“I came over after I sensed you a few blocks down you just radiated pain I can't stand to see people like that so I followed your aura until I came here and well here I am!”

Yagi surprised by the fast introduction was left dumbfounded

“Again that probably doesn't help explain why I'm here, well I like eighty per cent of the population was blessed with a quirk, and with this gift, I can do many things and one of those things is healing and I want to heal you cause well... you need it.”

“Toshinori Yagi, nice to meet you.” The skeletal man said.

Chapter 2: Continuation

Summary:

A continuation of their meeting

Chapter Text

“Toshinori Yagi, nice to meet you.” The skeletal man said.

"But I don't believe that you will be able to help me I've tried with the best healers on the market non were able to help me so as much as I appreciate you trying-" He was interrupted by an accosted scoff.

"Really? You're just going to give up like that! Without even trying? How dare you! Unlike you, I'm not a wimp at least try it what's the worst that could happen?"

Damn...this kid has a lot of spunk

"Well, I suppose it couldn't hurt..."
Toshinori sighed

"There we go! Alright open up!"

The flower was forced between his bony fingers with a swift.
He admired the flower, It was a red hibiscus rounded with red petals and a standing middle almost like a royal sceptre the yellow pollen embellishments like decorative gold.

He then without a second thought shoved it in his mouth, one swallow and the effects were instantaneous.

Like adrenaline through his veins, it soared and with a cloud of smoke, he appeared not as Yagi Toshinori but as the number one hero.

He looked ahead to see the Midoriya slack-jawed feeble noises of partial words cascaded out from his lips until two broke free.

"You're All might" he stared just a second longer before promptly passing out nearly falling on his face if not for the muscly arms of a specific blonde.

Notes:

Sorry this one is a bit short I was just excited to post it

I hope you all have a nice day

Chapter 3: The Youthfull heroine

Summary:

Hi uh been a while huh *sweats
uh enjoy?

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Yagi was a bit lost but he soon found himself at UA with a young man slumped over in his arms as he trudged up the stairs to recovery girl's office.

"Yagi, I swear to god what have you done to yourself this-oh this is new, who's the boy?"

"I uh well I met him today and uh good news great news even he uh healed me!"

"what?" the Short old woman was left dumbfounded

"Well yes this young man like you has a healing quirk it comes from the flowers on his head," he said gesturing to the hibiscus " and he forced me to eat one and I'm good as new!"

"well that's a ...development" she blinked "not a bad one like the other updates you give me" the blonde blushes " a great one"

"Well moving on why is he unconscious?" she questioned

"let's just say he's a fan" he supplies

"ah, that makes sense, what's his name?"

"Midoriya Izuku I believe" he states

"What's going on" a bleary boy with green hair awakens as the two adults nearly jump out of their skin.

The boy continues "All might?"

"yes thats me my boy"
"Where am I?" he inquires" cause I was one place and then I was another and that leaves me kind of confused and I've never been here and OH MY GOODNESS IS THAT RECOVERY GIRL big fan! Hah uhh"
The woman in question flutters with laughter as all might interrupts
"yes that is her and you maybe perhaps passed out but not to worry with my full strength replenished I was able to bring you here just to make sure you were alright!" he continues " And you are thats great I also have to thank you this injury has knocked me down a few pegs or hours you could say time limit and all but you fixed that and I am forever grateful by the way you changed my life and I owe you everything for that truly I swear on my life"

"through the progression of the speech, the boy is nearly brought to tears flowers almost wilting "Oh my wow I'm glad I could help but please don't swear on your life I am nowhere near worth that um I uh"

"Since you two are useless and over-emotional I will butt in once again I have to thank you, Yagi, has been struggling for a lot of his life and what you did will never be forgotten but to thank you I have a proposition kid do you want to be a hero?"

"of course! It's all I've wanted since I learnt the meaning of the word but I'm a healer, not hero material"

The Youthfull heroine raises an eyebrow" So am I not a hero I'm insulted?" she faux teases but the boy takes it to heart like he always does

"What no of course! You're my definitely one you're recovery girl the youthful heroine you've saved hundreds to not call you a hero would be a crime!" he splutters

"exactly and why can't you do the same you've got the quirk the drive maybe not the muscle but we can work on that" she waves
"perhaps?" He stutters
"then it's final I'll train you in healing Yagi will train you in fighting and whatever else you'll need" "I will?" she hushes him with a wack on the head with her cane "and you'll be set I've looked at your record and high school is your next step ten months to learn all you'll need easy enough, Right?"

"Yes ma'am?"

Notes:

Chapter 4: Group chat

Summary:

Izuku gets home and recounts his day

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The flush of heavy rain cascades forcefully as Izuku skips wistfully home.

Riddled with jittery energy, time passes, he's drenched, but what's a plant without water?

As the passage of time catches up with him dread pools in his stomach though lighter than usual he notes.

Flowers droop a breath in and out.

“Hey Mum I'm home” he announces wearily as he unlocks the door and pushes through with the strength of a thousand suns, metaphorical not literal.

Yet affable silence greets him.

With an expel of air, he sinks the door his back to the cool wood.

It's a quaint apartment that is built for three perhaps even a pet.

It holds two a jittery son and a barely-there mother.

He navigates his living space in the short halls leading to his room.

Posters powder the walls, heroes, with beaming faces and vague quotes.

He flops onto his bed as the day flashes by.

“damn.”

He recounts the events of the day. He was given All might's and Recovery girl's number to keep in touch, they would have kept him later but with the assumption of worrying family, they bristled him away with the request of a message when he was home safe.

“OH!”

He should do so, he pulls out his phone before he pauses.

How the hell do you start a message to the symbol of peace and the youthful heroine?

luckily he doesn't have to as the two pros have already messaged him, well two messages and one group chat, he navigates to All might's first it reads

“Greetings young Midoriya I do hope you got back alright!”

“I'm very sorry for the abrupt ending to our conversation but I am excited to meet with you at a later date to discuss your journey to the hero course-”

“THE WHAT?” he exclaims to himself “THE HERO COURSE I-WHEN UH?”

he should have put this together, to be honest, but puzzle-solving was not his forte.

“oh yeah that uh adds up heh”

he continues reading

“through recommendation”

“I'll be the one to recommend you it's the least I can do”

Oh yeah, he saved him neat.

“Please message me when you get home safe -Yagi Toshinori/All Might”

This reminds him once more so he replies.

“Hi All Might, I just got home”

Simplistic but it does the job the reply is instantaneous

“Young Midoriya I'm glad that you are alright, please take a look at the group chat it explains what you need to know”

“Oh yeah the group chat”

He adds All Might's number to his contacts Before traversing to Recovery Girl's message which simply states:

“Dear Midoriya this is Recovery Girl or Chiyo Shuzenji”

He adds the number to his contact, before moving on to the group chat.

He reads the name and blushes

“Midoriya's journey!”

Goodness that's cheesy

The first message is from All might.

“This is where all information about your training will be also a place where you can ask for any advice you might need!”

The next is from Recovery girl

“I look forward to working with you Midoriya”

All Might once again

“Yes agreed I look forward to developing your skills and helping you learn new ones as well!”

He smiles to himself messaging a quick goodnight.

He should go to bed maybe have a shower

he sniffs himself eugh yep shower

god, Kacchan is gonna flip when he hears this.

Notes:

Hey sorry it's been a while huh I never should've promised a constant upload cycle BUT DONT GIVE UP ON ME MORE WILL BE COMING UNLESS I SAY OTHERWISE!

I hope you all liked this one it's a bit of a tone shift and that probably came from the music I was listening to at the time of writing Sushi Soucy is good shit.

I've decided a few things for this fic

I'm gonna go with not abusive but absent Inko believe me I love her but I need some good angst

also, I've decided to go with Bakugo and Midoriya being friends this will hopefully offset the angst from Inkos parenting

and last but not least I've decided on the ship...

DRUM ROLL PLEASE

Hatsume Mei/Midoriya Izuku/Shinsou Hitoshi

I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THEIR SHIP NAME WOULD BE

I have chosen this ship because as soon as I was introduced to it I fell in love with it I mean what more could you want than chaos in the human form an erasermic love child and the main man himself all together it's perfection.

and secondly, it's said to see how little of it exists in the world even if you don't ship it I hope you still enjoy it or maybe even find a new ship to ship!

once again thank you for your support it keeps me going I am grateful

Have a lovely night, day or whatever

please tell me what you think of this fic and the decisions I've made I love feedback

Warmest wishes,
Nova

Chapter 5: Kacchan

Summary:

Izuku meets with Bakugo at Aldera.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Izuku shot up hitting his alarm clock off with mumbled curses, It was a Friday a day many people get excited for, the last day of school, and Izuku was no exception, although the display of the teen might say otherwise.

Blinking open his bleary eyes, palms massaging the eyelids, Izuku comes to a semblance of consciousness.

“That alarm is getting on my nerves, I might change the tune soon” he states to himself, the alarm was non-other than the voice of his idol announcing his presence, but now that he's met the guy, a little too much of anything can get irksome.

With a thought energy rushes through him in a lightbulb moment.

“OH YEAH!”

excitement also rushes through him coupled with the energy, the cause of this? Bakugo Katsuki aka heir to BK industries, aka Kacchan, Izuku Midoriya's best friend since diapers.

With one look at Katsuki, you'd see a prickly boy, in both hair and attitude and if that was your assumption you'd be correct. An explosive boy with an explosive quirk but also an explosive fashion sense as the son of two fashion designers he's also been flung into the hobby. In his pastime he enjoys making and designing clothes, his main hankering is hero costumes, any ugly or downright idiotic hero costumes bring him dismay so it's one of his dreams to correct this, functional and fashionable.

This is only, one of his dreams he also wishes to be a pro hero, when confronted about the duality of his dreams by some, his reply will be something along the lines of “SO YOU DON'T THINK I CAN DO BOTH, ARE YOU LOOKING DOWN AT ME PUNK!” which follows with either his parents or Izuku having to hold him back from giving them a little more than just a verbal beat-down.

In short Izuku and Katsuki are inseparable.

Izuku bolts out of bed preparing for the day.

Uniform? Check,

Bag? Check,

Notebook? Check,

Phone? Nope.

Rummaging around his desk he sees his charger and follows it up to his phone, check!

Opening his phone he sends a good morning message to the group chat holding Chiyo and Toshinori and gets two good morning messages in return, he then sends a good morning message to Katsuki along with “ I have such big news! meet me at the gate!” in return he gets a digital thumbs-up.

On his course to school he passes stray cats petting them before continuing, he trades greetings with neighbours and workers with smiles and joyous laughter.

He finds himself at Aldera's gate before he knows it and finds Bakugo before running up to him as he waits expectantly.

“Wow, you're disgustingly happy”

“Oh hush! It's all for good reason, you'll never guess what!”

“Do tell, lay it on me” The blonde enquires

“OK! So-” He rambles recounting the day prior, Katsuki listens in rapt attention in partial shock and shared excitement.

Izuku takes a breath and in return Kacchan blinks.

“Damn I already knew you were weird but this is Y/N level shit” he cackles and in return Izuku whines “Kacchan!”

Notes:

I'M NOT DEAD! Hi I hope you are all well I had a lot of fun writing this and I do hope that you like what I've done with Bakugo's character, once again please do tell me what you think of this and have a lovely day or night!

lots of Love, Nova ´・ᴗ・`

Chapter 6: A small crisis

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

School, was as always as it had been, plain. Being the last day there was no learning done, as he expected, but the day truly showed just how lacklustre and downright mediocre the school was. The homeroom teacher rattled on with jabber about heroics.

This Irked Izuku as assuming such things was foolish, not everyone wanted to be a hero he hadn't until two days ago, he decided he'd perhaps go to a medical school become a doctor or a nurse and get a license to use his quirk on others.

He wanted to help people that's all he wanted to do, but at least he knew that being a hero wasn't the only way to go around that, a lot of people didn't want to be a hero which he found completely reasonable, life and death situation, injuries, destruction of public property, seeing people die not being able to save them and having all that weight on your shoulders the families of the victims and their pain and you being completely unable to do anything and you want to do so much and-

Breath Izuku, breath!

He exhales and his hibiscus relaxes.

He's prodded in the shoulder abruptly and turns to see Katsuki with an enquiring gaze, eyebrow raised and head tilted, he replies with a toothy, unsteady side grin and a titter, Katsuki shrugs with one glance back before returning to his prior position.

His phone vibrating shocks him from his absorption, he fishes his phone out of his side pocket, It's a message from Katsuki, yep he didn't believe him for a second if there was one person who could always see through him it was Katsuki.
“Nerd, are you really trying to fool me?”

He asks himself that question, it comes to a resounding, why?

He fumbles out a reply.

“Don't worry about me! Just having a small crisis that's all!”

“Yeah, I can tell and I don't care-”

was the instant reply, he snorts at this, he knows full well he cares more about his well-being than any normal person should, it's sweet.

“, The old man and hag want you over for dinner which normally I wouldn't like, but I want to get your measurements and design your healer costume since whatever you'll come up with will undoubtedly be trash though I suppose you could state your preferences not that I'll listen.”

Ouch, he doesn't have that of a bad fashion taste, does he? The time he wore those sandals with those socks was a fluke he swears! Okay well maybe he wore them more than once but, he's a new man!

Halting that train of thought he gets off at the depot and messages Bakugo back.

“I'd love to, tell them I'm coming!”

From his right he hears Bakugo tut and in return, he rolls his eyes with a grin on his face.

Notes:

pfft, what on earth are you talking about I totally haven't forgotten to post for 2 Months, 1 Week, 2 Days you're delusional and I'm not gaslighting you why would you think that?

Anyway, long time no see friends! How are you? I'm good and finally, on a well-needed break which is one of my reasons for not posting, another reason is that I maybe possibly just forgot this fic existed which will happen in the future so apologies in advance.

I would love for you to tell me in the comments if you enjoyed it, what you enjoyed and what things you want to see, thank you once again and have a nice day.

peace and progress, Nova

Chapter 7: Staff of Aesculapius

Summary:

Katsuki introduces Izuku to his plan for his healer costume.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

"Oh, Izuku how lovely it is to see you" Mitsuki cooed as she embraced Midorya,
"Hi Auntie" He replied.

"I'm starting to think she loves you more than me" Katsuki grunts out

"Oh you'd know I'd never say that out loud"

"Hag."

"Brat." with this she ruffles his hair, he juts his jaw out in a false attempt to bite her hand, and in return she baps his face, and ever the onlooker of their antics Izuku muffles laughter in his fist.

"Now you two head upstairs and do whatever nonsense you do up there, Masaru will be finished with dinner in a few, have fun!"

"Sure, whatever." states Katsuki wearily, "Thanks Auntie, " Izuku says rolling his eyes at his friend's mood, as they clamber upstairs.

"So, I know you said we were designing my costume but knowing you you already have ideas."

Katsuki tuts in response chucking over an open sketchbook, on the page a drawing of a rod with a snake intertwined around it"

"The staff of Aesculapius!" Izuku announces with a gasp.

"Fucking nerd, at least that greek god phase you had came in handy" Izuku blushes "and yeah it is, it's a symbol of healing which for you works out but within it, I see another meaning altogether"

Izuku looks on in intrigue not daring to interrupt him," Remember that ancient play they made us read in English, Macbeth" Izuku nods "well one of the quotes is "look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent underneath" and you, my friend are a flower"

"I'm flattered you think of me this way Kachan" Izuku spirals a finger through his hair but is interrupted and he is punched in the shoulder, in response Izuku snorts into laughter, "Hah Hah, very funny, but you damn well know what I mean!" he does and brings an unconscious hand to fiddle with a hibiscus "besides from the obvious factors, from an outside perspective you're weak"

Ouch, that hurt

"Don't look like that, I said outside perspective, as in those who don't know you I know you and I know that you're tough as thorns"

Nice plant pun

and as if reading his mind he replies "Shut up, anyway, that weak-looking outer layer is your strength, and as girl boss lady Macbeth states, looking like what you aren't, fools your opponents giving you the upper hand so you can crush them!" leaving Izuku partially terrified he completes the train of thought "So thats why the double meaning works" Katsuki looking semi flustered, avoids Izukus eyes, waiting for something.

"Kachan, this is amazing, I love it!" Izuku reaches over taking Katsuki into an embrace "Thank you."

"yeah whatever... you're welcome nerd" inching away from the hug, he clears his throat "although that's your symbol done and dusted, I also thought of the rest of the costume like the colour scheme, instead even though white is very overdone I think it has a purpose, as it helps you see where blood is coming from but it needs to be a fabric that doesn't stain and is easy to clean, but combating the white it needs a secondary colour as a trim perhaps black to make the white pop..."

Izuku clung to every word making notes in his own notebook they worked together harmoniously.

Notes:

Damn I thought not posting for two months was bad, try 4,
so yeah... sorry for not posting in so long it's just the last time I tried to write a chapter I accidentally deleted all my process and couldn't get it back, so I cried and gave up, lol

Well I hope you enjoyed this, I just finished my mock exams so I have a lot more time now, and by extension, more time to write chapters, so have a nice day and tell me what you think in the comments.

Thanks from me!

Chapter 8: Pro-Healer

Summary:

Izuku comunes with the Bakugos for a meal

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

It was done, and he knew it was perfect.

from bottom to top, juniper green Chelsea boots followed by eggshell high cinched bell bottoms with angular hickory knee pads then came a white turtle neck with a softer fabric at the neck that seemed to come in excess then proceeds the cherry on top, a burgundy short hooded cloak with the silver staff ofAesculapius as a broach.

He loved it, and in thanks, he tackled Katsuki into an embrace for the second time that day.

"yeah yeah I get it you love it, but I prefer to keep my ribcage intact."

But before Izuku could apologise, he was interrupted by a shout from downstairs.

"Boys food's ready!"

Izuku responded at a matching volume

"We'll be down!"

with a sigh, Katsuki tossed Isuku over his shoulder,

"Kacchan put me down!"

Katsuki ignores him and trudges down the stairs with Izuku pounding fists on his back before reaching the bottom and chucking Izuku into his neighbouring seat before sitting down himself.

"Kacchan, you're an ass"

"No bad words at the dinner table Izu-Kun"

Izuku rolls his eyes until they fall on the feast laid before them Masaru adds the finishing touches,

"Woah!"

"Sorry if this is a little much, but when I heard you had news I thought a hearty meal would fit" Masaru explained, Izuku blinked before side-eyeing Katsuki who gazed into the distance whistling and looking innocent as ever,

"Eh, I guess this is as good a time as any" Izuku muttered to no one in particular, head raised with a small smile, excitement intrigue and interest hung thick in the air.

"Well", he starts "for a long time I've wanted to be a healer common sense, with a quirk like me"

nervous laughter meets encouraging stares, comforts him

"and that is not something Im planning on stopping anytime soon but it is to take a new form a variation if you will,"

questioning appears on two faces

" I ran into someone, they were injured and had been for a long time and I offered to help, he seemed nervous so I practically shoved hibiscus down his throat"

a surprised snort of laughter in which Izuku joined.

"So he took it and before me in a cloud of smoke I see a Pro-hero which I can't share the identity of but I knew of him so I fainted"

a startled gasp

"He helped me to a nurse but not just any nurse, the youthful heroine herself"

"No!" gasped in shared shock bringing Izuku to another snort, he continued "She was shocked herself not able to heal the pro, as she explained, her quirk only sped up the healing process of the body's resources but as the damage on the pro was too great he wasn't able to heal himself, whereas my quirk works on my energy in creating the healing properties so I was miraculously able to heal him"

a breath in and out

"I saved his life, recovery girl chatted till we got to the fact I wanted to be a healer, she argued I should shoot higher, a pro healer, a healer that's a pro hero, I didn't know that was possible and then I became her apprentice and I'm a shoo-in for UA"

from two angles he was rapidly embraced, praises are sung from more, that was a lot it tired him out,

"Izuku, you don't know how proud we are of you, but you have to admit that is a lot of weight on your shoulders, so know you always have our support if things get too hard"
Mitsuki comforted

"Thank you, truly"

"Say, what is the difference between a pro healer and a normal healer" Masaru inquired

Midoriya replied, "A healer would camp at a base to heal for example the building of the hero agency they work at, but a pro healer would go into battles to heal chipping in with what people need urgently to keep on fighting, Recovery Girl used to be one but with her age its safer for her to work as a normal healer or in her case a school nurse."

"going about on a battlefield is dangerous so are you going to get training to help protect yourself if you are attacked?"

"normal healers would get a baseline in defence and offence but the pro part of a pro-healer is to have the same training as a pro-hero. With my quirk being partially plant-based we are hoping to expand my reach with that skill to help me in combat"

"Hmm you always did have control over plants" Mitsuki tilted her head "remember when you tripped Katsuki over with those tree roots"

The boy in question attempted to hide a blush in his hands and muttered something unclear the others in the room laughed joyfully before a toast was made and everyone tucked in.

Izuku took this time to think, he almost forgets that one, part of his quirk, but he doesn't particularly have a reason as to why, it was probably the fact it was so weak and his healing powers possessed so much promise whereas the plant control went underused, a healer didn't need such powers but a pro healer could.

He must have just forgotten, yeah that was it, though such an odd thing to forget.

Notes:

Well I hope you enjoyed that, I sure did, Part of me hoped that the direction of this fic isn't unclear but the other part of me revels in it, I have big plans for this story and hope you enjoy the ride by the way that the last sentence means nothing for the progression of the story lol I just felt quirky and im not gaslighting you

*wink wink nudge nudge*

I swear

Thanks =D

Chapter 9: The beach

Summary:

All might offers Izuku something

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

"I assure you got here safely young Midoriya,"

"Yep but I am confused as to why we are at a trash dump" Izuku ran a hand through his hair looking up at the large silhouette of All might in disguise in civilian attire.

Trash was Piled like skyscrapers, the air held the cloying scent of rust a mould, it was a sight that made eyes sore, you could call it an eye-sore.

"As much as it looks like one, Young Midoriya this sadly isn't a dump but my favourite childhood beach!" Izuku pulled an even more confused face this one laced also with concern.

"I'm sorry you had such an unclean beach to play in as a kid, that can't have been healthy."

All might chuckled "Oh Midoriya, when I was younger this beach was far more clean, beautiful even" he wiped away a tear of bitter nostalgia.

Izuku rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm finding that hard to believe."

"This beach has seen better days, but that is exactly why we are here!" Izuku managed to look even more confused "We are going to clean this beach!"

Izuku's eyes nearly bugged out of his head "Wow...That's a lot, this is for my training right?"

"Indeed young Midoriya!"All might stood tall and proud, Izuku placed his chin between his pointer and thumb and muttered.

"That would imply muscular endurance and weight training, perfect to build up a strength quirk but..." he trailed off.

He regained his metaphorical footing "All might, I'm not one to doubt you, not one bit, but...This type of exercise is perfect for a strength quirk, and the plant manipulation wouldn't benefit from that type of exercise."

"Young Midorya you never fail to impress me! Of course, this isn't for your plant manipulation, this is for you to be my successor".

Aghast Midoriya couldn't form words his heart beating in his head.

All might continued "You see, my quirk is a very peculiar one, I'm not the first to possess it, countless have had it before me. My quirk One-for-all was one of the first quirks to originate, and it can be passed down, with the stockpiled power of so many users, it is extremely powerful but also dangerous if in the wrong hands. And I want you to have it."

Midoriya didn't know what to think and so All might continued once again.

"Young Midoriya, you saved my life, You are the reason the quirk still lives on, and I want you to have it."

Izuku connected the dots

"Oh, All might" Izuku's eyes well up and he looks down ashamed "I'm sorry"

Toshinoris's eyebrows furrow.

"I'm honoured you think that much of me but, I can't take your quirk."

Toshinori grasped Izuku's shoulders, looking him in the eyes "Midoriya, you would be amazing with one-for-all, please don't think so little of yourself."

Izuku met his gaze "It isn't that, I just..." he takes a breath "I love my quirk to be able to heal people is a gift, I also love the pant aspect of my quirk, Mother nature is my quirks name and it is a massive part of me, and I barely understand my quirk as it is, yet I am so desperate to do so. If I were to take one another quirk I would feel as though I were betraying my quirk, I love mother nature both the symbol and my quirk and it is a massive part of me" he lets out a breath.

Toshinori finishes his thought for him "You wish to be your own symbol" he receives a nod "Midoriya, I respect that sentiment more than you could ever know, thank you for being brave enough to tell me"

Midoriya rushes forward shoulders shuddering arms wrapped around Toshinori as if he is a lifeline, Toshinori hugs back consoling Izuku until he can breathe steadily.

"All might, I promise you, you will find a successor, and I will help you, I will help you search for one."

"Thank you Midoriya."

Midoriya looks around the so-called beach "Even if it isn't for training I still want to clean this beach, It's a fixer-upper, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to fix. This beach will be cleaned. But perhaps not by ourselves"

He grins with newfound determination "We'll advertise! We need to get groups of people able to help us." he pulls his notebook out of what seems to be thin air "We'll need to focus on people's strengths, strength-quirks for the heavy lifting perhaps, and maybe we can find someone with a water manipulation quirk to clean up trash in the water! Oh this is so exciting we have so much to do"

"I'll make leaflets" All might chimed in.

"Oh, I thought you would just, well I don't know, talk to people, you are the number one hero after all?"

All might metaphorically deflates "Well, young Midoriya, as much as I want to, I don't wish for this project to be taken advantage of" Midoriya tilted his head "Some people don't like me, if they knew I was going to be here on the regular, not able to fight crime at the same time it could put everyone in danger, I'll help as Toshinori but I'm afraid All might is over booked."

This partially upset Izuku, but he understood, being a hero was dangerous, he has to know that if he is to become a hero, "leaflets it is!"

-Line Break-

As amazing as the leaflets were they didn't help,

"I am sorry young Midoriya, perhaps I used the wrong font" All might bowed his head in shame

Izuku elbowed Toshinori in reassurance "Hey your posters were amazing, perhaps we just put them in the wrong spots".

They stood once again amongst the towers of broken cars and upturned shopping trolleys, in dismay...Until a shock of pink hair came forth as a knight in, well not shining armour but well-worn dungarees and goggles.

"Wow this place is a dump" She cocked he head "those leaflets weren't lying"

"Leaflets? You saw the leaflets?" Izuku's eyes sparkelled in hope.

The dungaree-clad girl nodded "Are you the people that put them up "both Izuku and Toshinori nodded in excitement " I gotta say those were some top-notch posters" Toshinori glowed at the praise "The colours and the font were to die for"

"Oh you are just too kind Miss...?" Toshinori enquired.

"I'm Mei Hatsume, future owner of Hatsume Industries, but you can just call me Mei"

Izuku bowed quickly, "It is nice to meet you, Mei, You can call me Izuku," he gestures to Toshinori "and this is Toshinori"

"Likewise" stated Hatsume "So, you guys plan to clean this wreck, huh?

Nerves swallow up both Toshinori and Izuku as they nod.

"Well, I assume you need help, so here I am!"

"Well, that's amazing! Which way do you wish to help" Izuku asked

"My babies, of course"

Toshinori pales and Izuku's smile wilts.

"What?"

Hatsume continues seemingly unaware of the pair's confusion "It's what I call my inventions, I just love them so much, they're like my own children!"

That makes more sense.

"Inventions?" Izuku wonders outloud.

"Well flower boy, I am an inventor, it is my dream to be renowned for what I create, and helping you with this, free of charge, would look amazing on my resume for the Support department, although it's not only for UA, I truly wish to harvest parts from this place, so much going to waste so much potential all just polluting this place, it's just a massive shame."

"You want to go to UA huh? Me too" Izuku replied almost glowing "I want to see this place clean, we'd love that!"

"Well petals do we have a deal?" she said sticking out her hand which Izuku grasped in response,

"Deal!"

Chapter Text

Beautiful oak floors garnished with fluffy, violet carpets welcome the trio as a bell announces their arrival.

"Oh my goodness, Kitties!"

The cat cafe has an aura of serenity and positivity, as do most of the feline occupants, Izuku almost vibrates in excitement at his realisation, "My life just got a million times better!" Mei barks out a laugh, Izuku looks offended at which Mei just rolls her eyes.

The offence is quickly forgotten as the trio finds a table, before being the last to be seated Toshinori looks at the pair, two eclectic embers of energy with enough determination to reach the roof, a memory of a time gone by, he smiled to himself as he sat down.

Izuku pulled out his fabled notebook, tapping it on the desk before looking Mei right in the eyes, a mask of apathy solidifies"So, with our deals in place, I need some security information, your phone number please?" a roll of fear went through Toshinori, no it couldn't be, could it? He wonders-

Hatsume's face blankly slides over a business card her hand callused from manual labour, Midoriya enters the number into his phone but then places the phone into Mei's grip...

"What Emoticons do you want with your name?"

Toshinori recovering from half a heart attack, blinks his lips pursed in a small "o" and shakes his head as if he were and etch a sketch, that was a silly thought.

Mei thought long and hard with the intensity of a scientist studying their subject after a hot minute she chose a robot and an explosion emoticon, and handed it back to Izuku who nodded in approval.

"Secondly what ideas do you have for cleaning up the beach?"

"Well!" she pulls out a binder, Toshinori was at a loss where do people keep pulling these things from? "One guy that works in Hatsume industries has a quirk that lets him craft magnets, he can decide the strength of it and what specific metals it will attract, this will be amazing for sorting." she cracked her knuckles and opened her binder with enthusiasm.

"the metal collected will be used for the next part of the plan." she opens up a blueprint drawn in gell pens and dotted with other doodles. The blueprint though gaudy to look at shows some sort of turtle robot, "This is Shelldon"

Izuku and Toshinori choke on their drinks, getting a weird look from a purple-haired teen at the counter who just rolls his eyes after muttering something incomprehensible.

Izuku sobers up first a hand attempting to muffle laughter trying not to disturb the black feline that nestled itself on his lap with his laugh.

"Shelldon, hm?"

"Don't question my methods"

"I'm not I swear" Izuku responds defensively.

"I'm watching you, chlorophyll"

"Is that because my hair is green"

"Yes, moving on" she moves on "our lovely friend Shelldon will not only be made out of some of the spare metal he will also communicate with visitors about the ocean, and how littering is killing it," she points to the outer bits of the shell, "these parts will be recycling bins which will respond to the type of litter to sort it"

Izuku was sure he had fallen in love but pocketed the thought for another day "That is the coolest idea I have ever seen" he started to ramble "the personification of the turtle will bring more sympathy out from the guests, the educational aspect will bring forth more knowledge about how people can help protect the ocean, and that design is beautiful it's not only a recycling station but also an art installation!" he took a minute to breathe,

"Can I call you Mei Mei?"

"You can no longer call me anything else."

"Perfect. Mei Mei, you are the most amazing woman I have ever met"

Mei's head raised with the praise, beaming "Don't you forget it"

The teen who they could now see had heavy eye bags came over to their table with drinks and shared a sympathetic look with Yagi who had been utterly lost to the energetic duo, before stalking off back to the counter.

"Hey flower-power, what drink did you-?" Mei cut herself off after witnessing Izuku pour a packet of sugar into a glass of water, Izuku looked up, clueless.

"You know what, I don't want to know"

"Oh you mean my sugar water" he rubbed his neck in embarrassment "It's for my quirk, with all the healing I do, sugar water is a good boost."

"YOU'RE A HEALER!?" Mei gasped hands slamming on the table

"Yes, didn't I tell you?"Izuku implored

"No!" Mei announced, shocked

"You two shut up or I'll have to ask you to leave!" shouted the same purple-haired teen from earlier. Sheepish looks and muttered apologies were gifted to the boy who just rolled his eyes, mumbling about not being paid enough for what he does.

"I had no clue" Mei whispered dramatically, Izuku toyed with the wooden coffee stirrer in his sugar water before placing it on a napkin "It's what I'm going to UA to do, I'm so excited, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared half to death. All that pressure with someone's life on the line," he took a swig of his beverage before, placing the cup down on the coaster, he looked frazzled "I'm not sure if I can be trusted with that" he looked at his hands picking his nails. He feels a hand on his shoulder and looked up to meet Toshinori's newly baby blue eyes shrouded with sympathy and breathed a sigh, before resting his head on the other's shoulder who rubbed his back in a comforting circle.

"Ugh I'm so jealous of your relationship with your Dad, I wish I was that close with mine"

"Oh, he's not my-" "I'm not his-" was the simultaneous rushed response from the two, it left Mei confused.

"So is he just a random guy...I kind of just assumed considering"she trailed off

"OH goodness no please don't get the wrong idea, I just it's a long story" Izuku rested his head in his hands

"I have time" encouragingly responded Mei, after gazing at her steam-punk-esque watch.

Izuku grinned slightly at this and started "Okay..."

-Line Break-

"So, You healed him and without knowing saved his life so he introduced you to Recovery-girl who is training you in healing, but as you wanted to become a pro-healer instead of just a healer, Toshinori was to teach you how to fight but in that training session he set up it didn't work to help you fight with your quirk, so you're kinda stuck."

"Pretty much."

"Huh, that clears a lot up, but it does still seem like you both have a father-son relationship"

Izuku and Toshinori didn't bother with a response both just shrugging.

Izuku looked around in slight confusion, "How long have we been here?"

Mei looked at her watch, before pursing her lips and looking off into the distance, "Too long."

"You can say that again, kindly leave, we are trying to close up" the trio once again looked sheepishly at the teen with purple hair, "Just on it, sorry" Izuku responded.

They started packing up swiftly until the table was relatively clean they then walked out of the belled door bidding thanks and apologies to the cafe workers.

They stood outside as the sun set in silence which Mei decided to break, "You know," she started turning to Toshinori, "You do work in a school for future heroes which are taught by other heroes, I'm sure there is someone more suited to train Izuku's combative quirk"

These words stirred around in Toshinoris mind, plant manipulation, growing, flowing like fish fins or the leaves waving in the breeze, spinning and toyed like a puppet, controlled, like mind control, mind control of objects, very possible for a well-trained mind, you could control anything, even something like... a scarf.

A scarf.

Toshinoris eyes widened, grateful and exasperated.

He turned to Izuku

"I know exactly who can train you!"

Notes:

I wonder who that teen was hmm

Chapter 11: Intimidation

Summary:

Toshinori meets up with someone.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Toshinori knew this was a bad idea, he barely knew the man beside one staff meeting, he was mad for thinking of this, how could he be so dumb? But there, as he stood in front of the black door he was replenished with newfound vigour, this was for Izuku.

Two knocks on the door.

Rustling and the sound of shuffling feet.

"What do you want?"

What did he want? Oh, now he remembered.

"Ah Aizawa it's a pleasure to see you"

"This is my house, don't sound too surprised"

He swallowed down nervous laughter, and a bead of sweat dripped down his face.

The dark-haired man rolled his eyes, this brought his attention to them, not to judge the man but they looked dry, they looked uncomfortable, red lines all pointing to his pupil under his eyes were deep bags, he looked tired and now he felt guilty.

He played with his fingers and his eyes danced trying to find somewhere his eyes could rest without judgement.

The man on the other side of the door stepped and leaned, "I don't think im getting an answer from you here, so come in let's sit and chat."

Feeling eternally grateful with a sheepish smile he went inside and surveyed his surroundings for a short while, the younger man locked the door, despite the gloomy exterior it was surprisingly homely, with soft rugs and purple accents, the house felt lived in.

"Shoes off" instructed the brunette, so he did just that.

The younger man took a seat and so did he, he felt as though he was in an interrogation, but one with a much nicer inside.

"So..." he urged.

"Right yes, why I'm here" he took a breath, "Your fighting style is commendable, you use your surroundings and you adapt quickly, it's impressive."

The man again rolled his eyes, "As flattered as I am, I doubt you just came to compliment me" he didn't sound flattered he sounded peeved, his voice monotone.

Toshinori didn't let this scare him away he needed to do this "Coupled with your control over your capture weapon Those traits are traits I lack."

Aizawa lost some of his sarcasm, intrigue coming off him in waves, as he slighted closer

"I came across someone while in my civilian form, he noticed I was injured and insisted on healing me" Aizawa raised his eyebrows mouth agape.

"I let him try, and by the will of mother freaking nature, he succeeded"

Aizawa was gobsmacked and completely flabbergasted.

"I...I thought it was unhealable, you told us in the meeting, you said even Chiyo couldn't heal you... but this random guy did."

"Yep, he saved my life I never thought I'd be rid of it but this kid-"

"KID?!"

"Oh yeah, he's fourteen, anyway-"

"No not, anyway!" said Aizawa sounding like he'd been on a run, "This random kid just healed you, your whole respiratory system, just out of the blue?" Aizawa ran a hand through his hair seeming to have aged since the start of this conversation, "That is lunacy, but with you here, right now, able to hold up your form for this long, I'm not sure what I believe." the last part muttered under his breath

"I know it sounds mad after I'd gone to Chiyo I was shocked beyond belief, but he did heal me, he's extremely powerful." All-Might leaned back in his chair still taking the information in himself.

"I'm happy for you, but I'm starting to think thats not all to it."

"How he healed me, it was with a flower, his quirk is some amazing mix of plants and healing, both I and Chiyo think that he can't only become a healer but also a Pro-healer, but to do this he'd need help with his plant manipulation side of things..."

"Go, on." a mocking tone

Toshinori put a brave face on he had to be able to do this, he had to, he'd never forgive himself

"I had a theory since his plant manipulation isn't just brute force but the powers of the mind... I thought you'd be able to help him get the handle on it"

Aizawa looked at him as if he'd grown another head "you can't be serious, truly you make me laugh", he wiped a faux tear from his eye, handshaking "what makes you think I'd be good at training him" Toshinori almost shivered, he felt weak, he felt stupid, he felt intimidated. He couldn't let him laugh and mock him, he couldn't let Aizawa get to him.

He clenched his fists and spoke

"I could have sworn I already told you Aizawa"

Little did Toshinori know, Aizawa too was intimidated, the number one hero asking for your help, blasphemy, just a few weeks ago he would've laughed in your face and said something about sending you to Hound-dog. But Aizawa didn't know what to do in this scenario so he listened.

"Unless I'm mistaken, which I know I am not you are insanely powerful, with your capture weapon, you reach a level of self-discipline, I could only dream of, It would mean the world to me if you could help the boy, he has so much potential, I only ask that you try."

Aizawa was lost like he had been, this whole conversation, but as he saw the look in the number one hero's eyes he knew what his answer should be.

Aizawa rolled his eyes once more looking off somewhere, Toshinoris heart sunk before-

"I won't give him any special treatment if he gets in, tell him I hate slackers, and I'm free Sundays."

With his signature number one smile he stood up teeth on display catching Aizawa in a bone-crushing hug bowed, put his shoes on and left smiling to himself as he skipped off.

Aizawa sat down, blinked once, twice and then three times before rubbing the bridge of his nose and going to make himself coffee.

A teen walked through the door as it opened with ease and looked on at his father.

"You look like shit."

"Nice to see you too Toshi, you wouldn't believe the day I just had."

Notes:

I hope you enjoyed this. I am sorry for the lack of Izuku, but I think this had to be a stand-alone chapter even if it kinda sounds like filler.

I'll try to get as many chapters out the week after next but as my mocks and my upcoming GCSEs are kicking my ass I'll probably be a bit spotty with the uploads.

Have a nice day. I love you all

Chapter 12: Perfect

Summary:

Inko wanted it to be perfect.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

He was so excited, his fourth birthday was tomorrow and everything was going to be perfect. It was All-Might themed what else would be more perfect for a hero fan-boy, he of course was gonna be a hero himself, he couldn't imagine any other future for himself.

His mother worked herself as hard as she could, this had to go well, she would be a failure if it didn't, and if anything went wrong she would hate herself.

She tucked him in, and only after showing him that damned video of All-Mights debut, the kid loved it he loves him. But why? The guy was a total danger magnet, high stake battles, which turned into absolute chaos, well he wasn't a magnet he seemed to be going into it willingly, just like her damned husband.

She hadn't a clue what he did for work, he'd stay in places for long times and when he did come back he was injured and relied on her to nurse him back to health, but the times he came back were fewer and further in between, he was an absent deadbeat. He called and messaged, and sent silly little gifts for Izuku all hero themed, which only boosted his obsession, she supposed it was harmless, he'd get over it, find it was stupid, settle down get a low-stakes job and live a modest life.

She couldn't bank on it what if his quirk changed things, what if his quirk brought him great power and an actual chance of being a damn hero, No, no, no, that won't happen.

Oh but it could, the quirk was, something, Izuku could get that as well, and she could just talk him into getting it repressed as she did.

It was for the best, sure Izuku might hate her for it, but her Izuku was not going to become a weapon, she would hate herself if that happened, so it wouldn't.

"Mom, are you alright?"

Oh, he's precious, a perfect little boy, so kind and caring he deserved the world and more.

"I'm alright sweety, let's get you to bed."

Red, blue yellow white, are the colours of his pyjamas. She lifted him off the computer chair, and he yawned, eyes drooping. She tucked him in, and kissed him on the forehead.

She turned and walked, the computer was still on, but another video was playing it must have auto-played. As she approached, she was made aware that she didn't recognise the woman on screen.

She sat down, enraptured.

Oh now she's got it she's a healer, she spends time with heroes and doesn't get hurt herself. It was perfect, a way you could be among heroes but at the same time not get injured, perhaps she could convince him to go along that track.

She's getting ahead of herself, Izuku didn't even have his quirk yet, she could put her mind at rest until then, no one knows what options are out there for you until you get a quirk anyway.

-Line-break-

It was his birthday and Izuku was hyped, he shot out of bed, rocking back and forth and flapping his hands, and he squealed in excitement.
Oops, his mom heard that, he looked apologetic, and his mother laughed as she picked him up to hug him, wishing him a happy birthday.

He was vibrating in excitement and asked when they were going to meet with the Bakugos, she rolled her eyes and said "later" and started to tickle him, he laughed and begged her to stop, not before laughing herself and ruffling his hair.

He then asked another question "Will Dad come?"

Such a simple question yet it bothered his mother so much, a frown formed on her face it was pained like his mother was repressing it. He felt guilty. His mother just knelt hugged him and left the question to be caressed by the air.

It was all forgotten when she brought him to the living room. Presents!

He looked over to his mother's eyes asking permission she nodded and opened them.

New notebooks, an Allmight pencil case, moldable clay and a slinky.

He loved them and once again hugged his mother who hugged him back. She then announced that he still had a present from his dad, which she handed to him.

An All-Might figure, don't get him wrong he loved it, but he did already have it, he remembers mentioning it in one of the phone calls he had with his dad to him, it was his favourite since it was the most accurate. He thought his Dad would remember that he already had it but he came to the conclusion that he didn't care, now he could open the other and play with it rather than having it on display in the box, he made a mental note to call him later on and thank him.

"All right let's get you dressed"

He nodded with renewed vigour, as he rushed to choose what he would wear, he was tempted to stay in his comfortable pyjamas, they were epic, they were All-might themed and he loved them, but as his mom reminded him, they were inside clothes so he would have to change.

He wore; bulky red trainers, cargo pants, and a Gang-Orca shirt from bottom to top. Although he was biased towards All-Might he loved all heroes, who wouldn't?

They saved the day and made the world a better place and they were so strong amazingly so, he couldn't wait to be one. Oh, that reminded him.

"Mom, are we going for my quirk consultation today?" he fumbled over the second to last word but His Mom understood him perfectly.

"Yep!" she exclaimed they were going to that before meeting with the Bakugos, unknown to Izuku, they were doing it in that order to give the aforementioned family, time to go into the Midoriya household and set up for the party for Izuku bringing party food and presents to the house. But he didn't know that so he and his mother hailed a cab and went off to the hospital.

-Line-break-

"Oh, are you the Midoriyas? Perfect, just on time come through, doctor Tusbasa will see you now"

They walked through the double swinging fire doors with a hefty weight and glazed windows, it was like entering another phase of life.

Not to be rude but the doctor was, odd. He was a bit manic in his words and seemed to get lost easily, his words twisting with age but he eventually got to the point.

"Yep, he's got a quirk alright, quite a powerful one I'd say, now you've just got to play the waiting game."

Izuku was overjoyed at the word powerful, he could be a hero that's exactly what he wanted!

Inko on the other hand didn't like the word. Powerful was bad, powerful is what forced her into a loveless marriage, and powerful get you used, and abused, she didn't want that for Izuku.

Her face hardened and her brow furrowed and she rushed off with Izuku shutting down the doctor and storming out.

Izuku didn't notice he was still on a high of his quirk.

As the day progressed, Inko distanced herself from the hullabaloo of the party.

It was time she called up an old number, Izuku might not forgive her if he ever found out but it was what needed to be done.

That old contact would subdue the quirk, she had the same done to herself after all.

Notes:

I was dizzy when I wrote this.
This is a tad different from normal chapters but I wanted to get more of his backstory clear I hope you enjoy it, and please comment on what you think, I appreciate it.

Have a lovely day

Chapter 13: Hibiscus

Summary:

Izuku Mei and Toshinori go on an adventure where they meet new faces.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Mei-mei was a riot, Izuku hadn't laughed that much in ages, They'd met up at Izuku's house to finish up the plans for project Sheldon, and they finished it.

Mei and Izuku couldn't believe it was done they looked over at each other before they both let out a high squeal embracing and jumping up and down.

"He's ready to be made all I need to do is make him with help from the employees at Hatsume Industries and instal him, we've already got permission cause my mum knows the land owners, this will be a breeze." Explained Mei before dramatical swooping down holding a flustered Izuku by the waist and planting a noisy kiss on his cheek, which glowed red.

"Don't you feel like a proud parent?!" asked Mei either unaware of the state she put Izuku in or purposely ignoring it.

Izuku after slightly recovering and still in Mei's grasp answered "You know I am starting to understand why you call your inventions your babies, you get to raise them and plan on how to help them succeed, you get to love them and care for them..."

Izuku trailed off his gaze distant, Mei's brow furrowed taking a while to think before asking "I'm going to take a guess and I'm sorry if this is personal but I guess that you maybe haven't had experience fo that yourself huh?"

Izuku slightly sluggish sat down on the pristine couch patting the cushion beside him in an invite which Mei took, she gazed over at Izuku and returned an invitation to speak whenever he was ready,

"Don't worry it isn't too personal and even if it was, you are a close friend of mine so I think you deserve to know."

Mei butted in "Hey now! Just because I want to know something about you doesn't mean I need to, your beeswax is your beeswax and mine is mine and hey if you want to share some pollen I'm all ears."

"That was a very elaborate plant joke"

"Hey what can I say a good heart-to-heart needs good foundations, good roots"

"Really?" posed Izuku voice dripping in sarcasm, raising an eyebrow.

Mei dramatically shrugged they both chuckled softening the mood, Mei smiled at him in patience, so Izuku spoke.

"My Mum's pretty absent" he gestured around him," as you can see the house isn't very lived in, neither she nor I spend much time in it, I normally stay at the Bakugo's" he smiled at the thought of his oldest friend

"So who are these Bakugos" Mei inquired

"They are family to me Katsuki the only child was my first friend he'd always save me from bullies and invite me over when my mum was away, the whole family is so eclectic and fun, they fight and clash but always love each other in the end and they do it so easily which begs the question why couldn't my mum try just a little harder for me." Mei didn't know what to say so she didn't say anything and instead she plonked her head on Izuku's shoulder in return he smiled resting his head on hers.

"The more time that went on the less she was around and when she was back it was so awkward I barely know her we're like two strangers who live together once in a fortnight." He laughed bitterly, "I guess I should be grateful at least she shows up sometimes which couldn't be said for my dad, he's always abroad on business I remember my mum saying his job was dangerous and that's why he couldn't come back but I don't believe her, I think he just fucked off after finding out my quirk was just flowers and not something strong."

"But your quirk is super strong! You saved a guy's life!"

"At the time all we knew is that I sprouted flowers out of my head, he never gave me a chance, I guess seeing that it was so weak put him off."

Mei rolled her eyes "That's so stupid, no quirk is inherently weak or strong, it's how you use it.

Izuku smirked and put an arm around Mei's shoulder"Sadly not everyone has your genius" Mei stuck out her tongue, which caused them to both dissolve into giggles.

"Alright enough of my mummy and daddy issues we've got to show this to Toshinori!"

Mei jumped up vibrating with energy. They both packed up making sure all that was needed was safe and secure, expecting to be surprising Toshinori they were shocked when unlocking the door they were met with the man himself.

"Young Midoriya oh and Young Mei too, hello, I have something amazing to tell you"

Izuku jumped out of his skin "Oh Toshinori you scared me, what news have you brought."Toshinori came inside and Izuku locked the door once more"
Toshinori cleared his throat "Drumroll please..." Mei complies thundering her palms on the back of a chair "I have found Young Midoriya a trainer!"

Izuku was shocked still "Izu that's amazing, now you can safely train your quirk!" Mei clapped her hands together, "Wow thank you Toshinori I can't... wow"

Toshinoi tilted his head to the side "You seem apprehensive young Midoriya"

Izuku sighed "I guess I'm just nervous I mean the sessions with Chiyo have been great but I'm not sure if ill be able to handle all the pressure."

"Pssh what bull if anyone can handle this it's you Izu, you're as tough as a cactus or giant sequoia even, You'll do great and hey even if you do crash a little under the pressure me and Toshi will get you right back on your feet ey Toshi?"

"Of course whatever you need I'll be there for you, for the both of you." He ruffled Izuku's and Mei's hair, which they shied away from before laughing.

"Oh I forgot to add, you'll be training every Sunday with Aizawa Sensei," Toshinori announced.

"Oh gee that's tomorow" Izuku shuddered.

"Hey what did I say about doubting yourself you'll be fine and hey I'll go there too and If this Aizawa bloke gives you any trouble I sick Shelldon On him!" Izuku giggled at Mei's rambling but then suddenly stopped, "Oh yeah that reminds me!" Izuku rummaged through Mei's saddle bag and presented the finished designs of project Shelldon to Toshinori whose face lit up, he wrapped the two in a hug and with the strength of a pro hero picked them up and squeezed the metaphorical life out of them, they wiggled around joking that he was crushing them to which he belly laughed and set them down.

"Well, this success calls for a treat who wants Ice-cream?"

The trio strolled along the pavement they radiated joy and all that saw them grinned, the three looked like a family, close and comfortable with each other, little did the trio know one of the people that wandered by was a loud blonde co-worker of Toshinori, who looked on shocked as he had no clue Toshinori had children but shook his head and smiled Hizashi made a note to ask Toshinori about his children as they looked around the same age as Shinso, Shinso did need some friends his age, Hizashi nodded to himself, but as I said the trio had no clue this was happening so they carried on to the ice-cream parlour without a care in the world.

-Line-break-

Izuku had never had so much fun he loved hanging out with Mei and he was admittedly starting to see Toshinori as some sort of father figure but he blushed and shook that thought away.

He looked done at his medical textbooks which he had read through all at least twice and cracked his knuckles leaning back in his desk chair and breathing a sigh, he closed the chat he had with Chiyo but not forgetting to say bye before another chat box appeared.

It set his danger sense off and his petals wilted in apprehension ignoring all the online safety lessons his school had forced down his throat and his better judgement he clicked on the dubious chat box which only read 'user @R4Tg0D wishes to chat with you', Izuku didn't know what possessed him to click on it, it could be a sketchy anything or anyone, with sketchy intentions, but he clicked on it anyway, what's the worse that could happen?

@R4Tg0D: Hello Hibiscus

Izuku's eyes glazed over and started to sweat he was shaking, who the hell was this and how did they know his flower?

@R4Tg0D: Don't feel fear I'm not here to hurt you

That sounds like something someone who wanted to hurt him would say, with shaking hands Izuku answered back.

@Fl0wrB0y: Who is this???

@R4Tg0D: Who else but the Principal of UA Nedzu

Izuku rolled his eyes.

@Fl0wrB0y: Yeah right, how about some proof

@R4Tg0D: It's a great trait to be cautious, Chiyo and Toshinori informed me about their floral charge, and I just couldn't help but be intrigued.

This interested Izuku, why would the principal of UA want Izuku

@Fl0wrB0y: What do you want from me?

@R4Tg0D: You're still nervous I respect but know again, I don't mean you any harm, I would never hurt someone Chiyo and Toshinori Love.

Izuku paused. Loved? He didn't know what to think of Nedzu's words, yes he did love them both, they both looked after him and taught him valuable lessons but he didn't know that parental feeling was requited.

@R4Tg0D: All I want is to have a little chat with you, you seem like such an interesting character and perhaps ask something of a future student of mine

@Fl0wrB0y: Go on.

Izuku was antsy he didn't want to have to wait any longer for Nedzu's answer

@R4Tg0D: At UA I assume you have already been told that you'll be healing students as part of your education

@Fl0wrB0y: I have

@R4Tg0D: Good, but I'm here to tell you that you won't only just be healing hero students but heroes themselves

Izuku's eyes widened.

@R4Tg0D: Many underground heroes aren't able to go to normal hospitals or healers because of their secrecy so many come to Chiyo.

Nothing against Chiyo but she is old, to be at her best she needs a full night of rest and the underground heroes work at night.

That's where you come in Hibiscus, you are younger and will be able to take the extra strain.

@Fl0wrB0y: I respect that, but what do I get from it? I'll lose sleep and time I could use to study or just enjoy myself.

@R4Tg0D: I knew there was a reason You piqued my interest, you will be reimbursed for your troubles

@Fl0wrB0y: Are you saying I'll be paid

@R4Tg0D: Of course, a top-tier healer deserves top-tier, and don't worry about your grades from your history of education you're a top student and you won't struggle in class but if you miss a key lesson I'll happily tutor you in whatever you missed.

Izuku thought and thought as hard as he could weighing up his options until he knew what his answer was.

@Fl0wrB0y: I'll see you at UA

@R4Tg0D: :) :) :)

-Line-break-

It was Sunday and Oh goodness Izuku had never been so nervous he sat around in the flexible workout clothes that Katsuki had forced him into getting, they were a specially made M&M industries product, and they felt great, mainly black with green visibility strips vertically down both sides of the tracksuit, but the outstanding quality of the clothes only did so much to calm his nerves, the training session wasn't the only thing on his mind Nedzu's words flew around his head. He was waiting for Mei and Toshinori to chaperone him to UA to Practice with this Ominous Aizawa character Izuku had assumed that Aizawa was a teacher since they were going to UA to do the training their Nedzu would never let some random anybody into UA, He didn't have too much time to ponder as he heard Mei's enthusiastic rhythmic knocking, dusting himself he made his way to the door.

"Hey Mei-Mei" Izuku greeted half-heartedly, Mei pressed her palms on the sides of his head on his temples. "Don't sound so depressed Izu You'll do great, we've already had this conversation haven't we" Izuku nodded Mei's hands moving in turn, Toshinori then took his turn in harassing Izuku and ruffled his hair Izuku muttered something about being nervous and both Toshinori and Mei embraced him as they set off.

One step after another they found themselves near the Bakugos where they found Katsuki all dolled up in a suit and tie Izuku guessed he was on the way to a meeting. Their eyes met

"Well hello, Izu and Co where are you all off to?"

As Izuku tried to answer Mei jumped in before.

"Ah, so you're the illustrious Bakugo Katsuki, heir to M&M industries I've heard so much about?" Mei stuck out her hand and Katsuki took it "You'd be right, charmed, and call me Katsuki If I'm correct you would happen to be Hatsume Mei, heir to Hatsume Industries "

"Wow, we are good at agreeing, I very much am, it is very pleasant to make your acquaintance, you look fancy where are you off to?"

Katzuki rolled his shoulders stretching, cool calm and collected, "Oh nowhere fancy just to the Iidas' they want to discuss a new look for their costumes, it's just hunks of metal they look like medieval knights." Katsuki checked his nails.

Mei let out a laugh, "I couldn't help but agree, they need a redesign, but listen to me on this one the metal isn't the only hunk around"

"Oh?" Katsuki tilted his head

"Their youngest son he's our age and he's definitely a looker a little cold and studious on the outside but just compliment him a little get him flustered and you can nag him like that."

"Oh now I get why I like you, thanks for the tip I'll certainly try"

"You are very much welcome, oh and to answer your question from earlier were off to get Izu trained."

"Oh, that's great glad you found someone, well I must get going and you three probably should get going too."

Izuku looked on in fear, he always dreaded the day these two would meet the two business heirs got on like wildfire and Izuku was the forest, he looked over to the side to see Toshinori in a similar state

"Bye Kat-Kat," Mei said while waving to Katsuki as he got into the sleek black car before driving off.

"He's nice," announced Mei

"Yeah..." said Izuku before pinching the top of his nose and sighing it was going to be a long day.

-Line-break-

Although Izuku had already been to UA it was no less daunting the second time around, on the walk there Izuku's hand had found a place in Mei's grasp Mei sensing his nerves gave Izuku's hand a squeeze Izuku squeezed back.

The gate was massive imposing and metallic it looked like a fortress and all around intimidating his thoughts were interrupted by a welcoming high pitched and slightly creepy voice coming from overhead speakers.

"Ah hello you three right on time, very punctual well what are you waiting for come in!" the gates opened vertically and Mei and Izuku looked on in shock and awe so Toshinori had to physically push the two in who quickly woke up and carried on. That voice irked Izuku even though he'd never heard it he knew exactly who it was.

When they got close to the doors the voice again instructed them this time to go through the first door and down the right Hall to an office.

The door opened seemingly on its own and Izuku saw two foreboding figures with very different heights.

Chapter 14: Sweet Hibiscus Tea

Summary:

Izuku focuses on learning more about his quirk and everyone indulges in him a tale of his quirk.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

“I want your full focus on this,
close your eyes and breathe,
go from your head and your heart through your veins,
feel the dual flow of energy not colliding but combining, you are to be calm,
stress will waver the strength of your control,
your heart is the centre of your energy, your mind the centre of control they need to be in tune together.

Now that you have an awareness of your body remove your hands from your lap and place them on the grass, like your body the plants have veins, well not veins but roots, vines and stems, I'm sure there are more technical terms but as you can see our bodies and those of plants are very similar, interconnected powerful, can you feel it?”

Izuku sat there, hands shaky but firm attempting his brows furrowed for a few but then his head drooped along with his flowers.

“I'm sorry,” said Izuku ashamed, he felt a hand on his knee

“Kid, don't worry about it, you have better resilience than me, when I was being taught how to do this crap I stormed off in my first lesson and hey, I can tell that you're trying your best, that's all I expect.”

“Thanks, Aizawa sensei, but it seems hopeless my plant control what-you-call-it has always been depressingly weak, leaving me to feel the same, it's like...a block”

Aizawa tilted his head to the side while listening and nodded when Izuku was done.

“It easily could be, quirks are dangerous sometimes and the body recognises that. I took a course once on quirk awakenings, its crucial for a hero to know what to do if one gets out of hand, sadly some quirks awaken in terrible ways trauma and shock can result in a jerk reaction, many times these quirks aren't ready to come out and they can hurt the user”

“It's like a bad pimple squeeze it before it's ready and it hurts like hell and back”

Izuku snorted before dissolving into giggles Aizawa joined in with hearty laughter.

“every day I want for you to practice this sort of meditation, If you get to some grass, perfect but if you can't focus on your hibiscus and after write down how it felt, hopefully, we'll see some improvement.”

Izuku sighed “Hopefully”

Aizawa gave him a look before he and Izuku stood up and went in the direction of the door “Come on I bet the others are done with their little tea party”

“Oh, uh oh” murmured Izuku staring into the void, “What?” questioned Aizawa.“We left Toshinori with those two terror twins .”

Aizawa glanced over at Izuku “Let's hope we find his body so we can give him a proper send-off”

“yeah, let's”

Mei and Nedzu had gotten on scarily well, something to do with the fact her parents had worked with him once and that they both knew a lot of people ergo they had a lot of power, and it was terrifying, both Izuku and Aizawa were now exceedingly thankful that they were on their good side.
Before Aizawa and Izuku had run off seeking refuge Izuku heard that Nedzu had knowledge of "Shelldon" who had only been recently finished.

He'd been a massive success with the locals and already you could see the positive impact he had, Izuku felt extremely proud of Mei not everyone could do something like that, he was planning on taking her somewhere nice to celebrate, in such a short time she was already one of his greatest friends, and he wanted her to know just how much he appreciated her.

As they neared the room the sound of hysterical laughter became ever louder when they opened the door the scene Izuku saw warmed his heart.

Nedzu, Toshinori and Mei were spread out across the office, Mei was sprawled on the carpet in some odd positions that couldn't be good for her posture and Toshinori sat one leg over the other on the sofa while Nedzu sat on a footrest opposite to Mei, they all had the ends of their tea cups in different flavours, creating an interesting mix of scents as Izuku surveyed the room he took in what he could smell.

Mei had a very stark peppermint tea, good for memory and alertness, which is exactly what she needed in her day-to-day, experiments could turn their back on you in an instant which Izuku had learnt very well when working alongside Mei, too many scorched petals was a very good remind her so peppermint tea had been a must.

He then looked over at Toshinori who had earl grey, which was good for digestion and for someone who only recently got his stomach back was probably a good idea.

Lastly, Nedzu had Jasmine it's quite sophisticated, Izuku believes which suits his aesthetic, but it's also good for mental clarity so it fitted him like a glove.

Izuku then decided to make him and Aizawa known, "Hope we aren't intruding."

Nedzu chuckles “Not at all please, come, come!”

Toshinori smiled up at Izuku patting the sofa seats beside him “How did it go young Midoriya?” he enquired, Aizawa decided to answer before Izuku got the chance, “Kid's alright, he's trying his best but we can both tell he's got some kind of block so I've set him up with some meditations to hopefully address it,” he sat down and faced Toshinori, “you had the right idea coming to me, my capture weapon works similar enough to how the few instances of the Kid's plant manipulation when he comes here as a student ill be sure to check back in on him but he's a good kid so I have no doubt he'll succeed.”

Izuku's cheeks tinted red.

“He'll master it no sweat, he's too smart for his own good, he's pretty much already memorised that book Recovery Girl got him” bragged Mei.

Izuku's face got brighter as he rolled his eyes.

“I certainly agree Young Midoriya is one of a kind” Boasted Toshinori.

Izuku's face now had no chance of returning to its original colour it was the last straw when Nedzu chimed in saying “It certainly seems that way, he'll do great things, well more than what he has already done.

Izuku sunk deeper into his sofa seat in between Toshinori and Aizawa head in his hands and his flower puffed up and lowered down assisting in hiding his face.

The rest laughed and Toshinori patted Izuku's back bringing him into a shoulder hug which Izuku leaned into desperately.

Izuku rolled his eyes at the laughter and instead adopted a tough persona “You lot having tea without me, and I thought we were friends hm” Izuku shook his head dramatically.

“I'm so sorry Zu what can I ever do to have you forgive me?” pleaded Mei batting her eyelashes.

“I'm afraid we shall never be friends again but I might forgive you just this once, If you all partake in some of my own tea.”

Aizawa and Nedzu looked confused as Izuku took some petals from his head to put into a metal tea in fused before pouring hot water leaving his hibiscus tea to steep.

Nedzu's eyes brightened in some sort of glee, “Oh how curious, I was aware you had a healing quirk but I didn't know it took this form”

Izuku rubbed the back of his neck “Oh yeah,” Izuku took a breathe in and out, “Well I called my quirk mother nature, not only because of the plant manipulation but also because of its healing properties, I grow these hibiscus flowers out of my head that can be plucked out and ingested. I found out how it worked after my friend Ka-chan had hurt his hands with quirk overuse, I'd heard somewhere that flowers could have health properties so I gave one to Ka-chan in the hope it would work and it did, I still wonder why he ate it in the first place but eh we were kids and would anything in our mouths.”

Izuku laughed wiping away a tear.

“After one day in kindergarten after news of my quirk spread a lot of kids wanted to try it so I let them, but I ran out of flowers so I tried to sprout a new one, it worked but I was way too tired at that point I fainted and my last memory was Ka-chan shouting at everyone before he lugged me to the nurse's office.”

Mei giggled, “That's definitely something I can picture.”

Izuku giggled back “Yep everyone was scared to look in my direction for a good week before I explained that I shouldn't use too much of my quirk so much and that it's only for emergencies. But of course, my resilience grew and so did the strength of my flowers.”

“Strength is too tame of a work young Midoriya, you saved my life repairing my organs, and I am forever thankful” Toshinori admitted admiration dripping from his words, as Izuku was about to disagree or deflect, Aizawa jumped in shock, “Organs, plural! Kid that's insane, don't ever doubt yourself like that.”

instead of Izuku arguing he poured out the ready tea in all the cups, “Although none of you are injured as far as I can tell, it would still mean a lot to me if you all were to drink this it makes me more confidant that those close to me are safe” instead of blushing Izuku looked around seriously as if making sure he was understood, everyone did, they thanked him as they grasped the cup taking the first sip.

It was like no tea Nedzu had tried before, refreshing and revitalising in an almost supernatural way, seemingly permanent scars from his past abusers cooled and felt weightless, the visual reminders were still there but the pain was forgotten, It brought an unusual but pure smile to his face he could see it did the same to the others in the room in a moment of comfortable silence. As he looked at the young man he saw a strong future with strong allies making the world a better place so he took another sip.

Chapter 15: Liason Maker

Summary:

The Bakugos head to the Iidas and Katsuki thinks about his family

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

After sliding into the sleek black car Katsuki crossed one leg over the other and blankly stared out the window at nothing in particular, his head cocked away from the glass.

"Who were you just chatting with?" his mother, ever the gossip enquired from over in the passenger seat, she blinked at him through the mirror,

"just Izuku and his new inventor friend" he shrugged

"Oh!" his mother exclaimed excitedly, she then enquired

"Well, you like the look of them?" Katsuki shuddered,

"Gods no, not my type", Mitsuki let out a barking laugh,

"you think terribly of me, I mean business."
Katsuki rolled his eyes "In two ways!" she grinned at her joke, and Katsuki once rolled his eyes before becoming more serious.

"She seems to be quite interesting, she's the heir to Hatsume Industries, her name's Mei Hatsume and Izuku trusts her and she already thinks me a friend"

For once his mother was at a loss for words, as her eyes bugged out of her skull, she blinked at least seven times, Masaru sat down in the driver's seat, looking at his family before his eyes narrowed in on his son "What did you do to her?" he asked "I dunno, you tell me, all I said was that I made friends with Mei Hatsume!"

It was now his father's turn to be shocked, as his eyes widened, his mouth gawped as his wife recovered from her shock, she lunged towards Katsuki fitting herself between the two front seats, grasping her son and hugging him.

"I knew we raised you, right son," she leaned back and wiped a probably faux tear from the corner of her cheek, "You're a proper liaison maker,"

Katsuki looked at his parents, right and left,
"I didn't make shit",
"language",
his father had come out of his gawp during the physical affection that Katsuki was bombarded with, his mother continued,

"You might not believe it but having Mei as a friend will do you wonders, You want to be a hero and a designer, she's a mechanic and she'll be making hero gear, and you'll be the one making it pretty and using it, you two will probably work on a lot of tasks together."

"And?"

"And!", Mitsuki continued, "that partnership, has already started, you're getting ahead of the game." Mitsuki turned back the mirror, fixing the collar of her long-sleeve, white blouse that was under a dark brown, buttoned waistcoat, paired with dark-green trousers, "You are a credit to the Bakugos" Katsuki knew the importance of his family name,

Bakugo,

it roughly translates to the explosion, Baku and Go, blast and valiant, It's a strong name, he won't hesitate to admit but he also finds it partially embarrassing, it fits his family too well.

His Mum is explosive, loud, bold, and not afraid to make herself known, and she doesn't lack courage either, he'd heard tales of how hard she had to fight to get her voice heard and it filled him with pride he'd never let known. His Dad, although he is more subdued, is valiant, unyielding and unshrinking, his Dad would stop at nothing to get the best for his family, both traits are commendable but they both have their faults.

He remembers one attempt at a family outing, key word attempt, they were at some restaurant on holiday, and his Mum was being her loud self, but she was in no way hurting or harming anyone, just enjoying herself, Katsuki remembers appreciating her loudness, it meant his mother was happy, he then looked around the restaurant attempting to take in the surroundings, but he couldn't focus on the interior since all he saw his way was faces of disgust, he shrunk back in himself, and with pleading eyes her looked at his parents, begging them to quiet down, it didn't work, not in time, a stone-faced woman came by with her features pinched at odd angles, she told them they had to leave, now it was his Dad's chance to position his facial features, his eyebrows furrowed storm clouds in a once clear sky, he doesn't remember much after that, he was taken outside by his Mum and his Dad had come back with a black eye.

He loves his parents, and he appreciates what they do for him, but it doesn't stop him from fearing he will be too much like them.

He lolled his head to look outside, they were right in throws of the city, concrete, wires and metal, cocking the top of his head away from the glass as he thought of what his future business partner said, "Iida Tenya", the Iidas are renowned for their quirks, franken-human-machine, human-chine? Hu-machine? He shook his head.

Nearly all of the family pro-heroes, so as one could guess, were loaded, in two ways, this is not a euphemism, they worked in creating rocket-like weapons, similar to that of their quirks.

So if Katsuki did take note of what Mei-mei said, and if he did manage to butter up Iida, he would be an asset to the Bakugo family, he would be doing M&M industries a favour, he zoned out...

-Line Break-

Before he knew it they were there, Oh Gods, it's huge, the Bakugos aren't short on money in any way shape or form, but the Iida's household was on another level, clean, metallic, cubic and stinking of wealth, Mitsuki slid her door open, leaning over to open her son's, eyes not leaving the shiny monstrosity, Katsuki was all for glamour, but the bleached geometric balderdash felt overtly pristine, fake and phoney, he brushed his arms with his palms, his mum brushed down her waistcoat, and his dad took out a micro fibre cloth and polished his glasses.

His mother was the first to break from the apparent hypnosis, "Well, how are we all feeling?",

"Sweaty." both father and son answered in unison, "Can't blame you" Mitsuki gulped, "Let's get it over with, shall we?"

They find themselves at the fortified front door, Mitsuki, leading the pack, presses the doorbell, she is then met by a slightly shorter woman with a sleek bob, "Oh hi~" she glissandos, she had on semi-rimmed glasses that looked like horizontal pill capsules, titanium and sleek, "What can I do you for?" Masaru found his voice once more,
"Uhm Hi, Nice to meet you We're the Bakugos, the owners of M&M Industries, we have a meeting in thirty minutes to discuss the hero costumes of the family"

The woman blinked a few times while furrowing her brow till she shot up in realisation giving off excitement in waves, a smile split across her face "Ahah! Of course, silly me, Im so forgetful, I'd run away from my head if it weren't attached to me, heh, get it, run, like my quirk..." Masaru, not wanting the woman to feel embarrassed started faux laughing, it sounded manic and crazed but the woman was none the wiser and she joined in with a proud lilt to hers, she flicked her hand out palms facing down, wrist limp,

"Goodness I'm awful, I haven't even introduced myself, I'm Haya Iida, last names will just get in the way call me Haya, please!" she opened the door more so with a come hither gesture, so the Bakugos followed suit, the hallway was more homely than the outside yet still sophisticated.

Katsuki took the time to look at the walls, artdeco patterns led the way down the halls the floor was birch and extremely clean.

Katsuki wanted to leave.

But, Katsuki is a Bakugo, and Bakugo's don't run.

So he stayed and followed the rest of his family as they paraded after Haya.

The four got to the elevator, despite the large size of said elevator the Bakugo's packed themselves into one tight corner like sardines.

-Line Break-

Katsuki slumped into his chair for only a second before his mum wacked him into a more socially acceptable way to sit, his mother nodded to Katsuki reassuring him of what was to come, and so it did.

In walked Ken, Haya, Tensei and last but not least, Tenya Iida.

Gods be damned, Katsuki thought, Mei was right.

Katsuki was going to make Tenya his.

Chapter 16: 'Twas the night before the entrance exam

Summary:

Izuku attempts to get to sleep, he fails, for a bit atleast.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

It was the night before the entrance, Izuku stared up at his ceiling, the beaming face of his idol stared back, he took in a shaky breath, carbon dioxide in and oxygen out.
He had to get up 7, and decided that 8 hours of sleep would do him well, but after an hour of lying awake, it was but a dream.
He rolled over to his bed side table to check his phone, a few Herotube notifications but nothing of importance. He opened his messengers squinting at the white abyss and mentally scorning himself for using light mode, slowly, his eyes got used to the garish brightness and he gazed over his most recent messages, he chuckled noticing he wasn’t alone in his insomniac endeavours.

@Fl0wrB0y:Wow Mr, my-bedtime-is-7pm, I hardly know who you are anymore! :0
An instant response.
@Bl@$tF@$h10n: die

Izuku muffled a snort into his pillow before crafting a response

@Fl0wrB0y: I thought we were friends :’(
@Bl@$tF@$h10n: Keep dreaming
@Fl0wrB0y:…
@Bl@$tF@$h10n:what do you want?
@Fl0wrB0y:Who *looks around* me ??? I didn’t say anything
@Bl@$tF@$h10n:I hate you

Izuku laughed once more but instantly sobered, his heart raced and threatened to jump out of his chest and his muscles stiffened, he felt as though the world was going to crash down on him, something was going to go wrong and it was going to be all his fault, someone would get hurt and he wouldn’t be able to help him some-
His phone vibrated repetitively in his hand, incoming call, it was Katsuki, he accepted the call.

“Hey” Izuku greeted
“Sup” Katsuki replied

“Nervous?”, Katsuki scoffed
“Never”
Izuku rolled his eyes,
“Well I’m nervous”
“Wimp” Izuku sighed half heartedly ready to end the call before Ka-chan cleared his throat.

“I don’t know your nervous” Izuku listened to the sound of fabric brushing against itself, partially covering a shaky intake of breath, “You’ve already got a confirmed place”
Izuku rolled on to his back, staring up at his ceiling, “I know I just…” he paused and his eyes shifted to another one of his All-Might posters.

“I just feel like I’ll screw up, somehow”
A pregnant pause
“…How?”

“Like…” The poster stared back at him, and he flinched away, “What if someone gets hurt, and I’m not there to help them or-or I heal someone the wrong way and I uh do more harm then good AND-“
“HAH”
Izuku snaps into himself like a turtle receding back into its shell, ouch?

“You’re spiralling, how in the world would you, and I quote-“He imagined Katsuki pushing up his glasses hunching over a court transcript “‘heal someone the wrong way’, you’re being unreasonable, dumbass.

“Huh”, Izuku’s thoughts sobered, he was right.

“Thanks Ka-chan”

“…go to sleep”
“You should do the same…” Izuku teased, a sing song-y voice.

“Do as I say, not as I do”, Wow Izuku thought, he really sounds like his dad.
Before Izuku could reply the phone was hung up.
Izuku snickered to himself once more, his heart felt warm. He through his phone halfway across the room, thank goodness for overly long cables.

He shut his eyes and was probably going to think of something overtly profound and philosophical, However he fell asleep far before any such thought could be mustered.
He loved having friends.

Notes:

What do you mean my last update was over a year ago and that any one thta was probably interested in this fic has already forgotten about this?
pfft, you're dilusional and I am definitely not gaslighting you.

I wish I had some sort of fanfic-writers-curse to blame this on but trully I have nothing to blame but myself.

It's probably a mix of the fact I'm not as interested in MHA, anymore, and I had my a-levels torturing me.

but now that that's over, I have more more energy to focus on writing, fanfiction wise and other wise.

so I hope you enjoyed this very short chapter, perhaps think of it as a promise that I haven't forgotted about this fic.

love you lots,

Chapter 17: Go Beyond

Summary:

Izuku and Katsuki get to the entrance exam in one piece

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Morning came too fast, Izuku winced and rolled over to silence his alarm, 07:00. He was in a purgatory of not overly tired but not fully rested he stared at the digits of the clock till it read 07:05 and confirmed that yes, time was moving and yes, he needed to get up.

Rushed and half-awake he showered and got dressed.

He shovelled a prepackaged onigiri into his mouth washing it down with bottles green tea, for focus.

Shaking Izuku picked up his canvas bag, right as he was about to open the apartment door, he heard four great bangs upon the flimsy wood, as the perpetrator was about to attempt another barrage, Izuku swung the door open and found his closest friend with his fist mid swing.

Katsuki crossed his arms and huffed.

“Took you long enough” Katsuki turned away from Izuku half stamping down the walk way, “we need to get going or we’re gonna be late, and it’s gonna be your fault”

Izuku followed the ball of the anxious rage, they’d planned this day for a while there wasn’t any chance that they would be late, Izuku got going anyway.

The walk there was quiet, both felt shunned into a silence that neither wished to break so they kept walking in a nervous hush till they came face to face with the gates of UA.

“Kachan?”

“What?”

Izuku turned to beam at his friend with a shaky grin, “We’ll be okay, you’ll be okay…”

Katsuki grimaced acting bolder than he’d let on.

“Yeah, duh, I’ve got a strong quirk, and you’ve got your unyielding optimism”

Izuku hid a laugh into the fabric of his cloak, “come on let’s get going, I don’t want it to be my fault that we are late” the two entered the building. Side by side.

-Line Break-

They walked into a rounded lecture hall, rows among rows of seats, there were hundreds of hopefuls which made it all more intimidating.

Sitting down next to Katsuki he stuck out like a sore thumb, where everyone else was wearing their middle school uniform Izuku was already kitted out in the costume Katsuki had designed for him, he fiddled with his ends of his burgundy cloak as he recalled his assignment.

After completing the general written exam, he was to enter one of the faux cities and navigate around to spy anyone in need of healing, simple right?  In theory, yes, but in practice it was a whole other ballpark.

With such simple instructions it was easy for Izuku to over think, would he need to heal a minimum amount of people, or was he to help everyone he could?

With a sigh Izuku stared forward, if being a professional healer failed he for sure had the credentials to be a professional overthinker, however overthinking wasn’t the brightest idea right now, so he decided he would channel his attention on the Radio Hero that had just swaggered into the room.

“Oh my gods!” Izuku internally screamed, it was Present Mic!

“Can I get a YEAAAAH!”

Dead silence, or more suitably…radio silence

As much as the hopeful students idolised the man, through his hero work, or the fact everyone was a massive fan of his radio show, a man with this much energy, at 9am, Infront of a cohort of anxious children, they were all a tad too intimidated and sleep deprived to answer back, ergo, the silence was palpable.

The blonde cockatoo of a man pouted, and everyone felt kind of bad, but all was forgotten as he carried on and introduced the exam.

Izuku thumbed the sheet that everyone had passed out to them. It detailed the rules of the exam a long with what to expect.

Three types of villains, each worth more points than the last, each more dangerous he concluded, he’d have to be on top of his game, to make sure whoever needed help most desperately would get it first

Katsuki nudged Izuku and whispered

“they’re splitting us up so we can’t be with our friends”

This brought his attention to their ID cards, although their numbers were identical bar one digit they had both been placed in different battle centres.

“That’s a real shame, I was looking forward to having a battle medic, then I could really push myself to the limit”

The green haired boy grimaced.

“Kachan don’t be silly, you need to work within your limits, there is no need for you to risk quirk exhaustion.” It made him feel like a chiding mother “villain attacks already have enough victims as is!” without realising it Izuku’s ‘whisper’ had passed an acceptable volume.

“Excuse me Sir I have a question!”

Izuku’s head flicked to source of the voice.

He was met with a pristine uniform and perfectly combed hair,

“On the print out you’ve listed four types of villains, not three” Izuku glanced over at Katsuki who’s eyes had widened before the boy settled into a smirk.

Did Kachan know this guy?

“With all due respect, if this is an error on official U.A materials it is shameful!”

Huh, the blue haired guy was right, there was a fourth, it was drawn bigger than the rest. Its title ‘Zero-pointer’ puzzled Izuku, however, having met Nedzu in person, it seemed typical that the exam wouldn’t be what meets the eye.

“And secondly!” the boys head spun like an owl, his eyes landing on Izuku and Katsuki, “Would you two quit your yammering, everyone here needs to focus”

Izuku, ashamed bowed his head in apology before Katsuki smirked once more, “My sincerest apologies… pretty boy” Thoroughly mortified Izuku rapidly flicked his eyes between the two.

Kachan definitely knew this guy… or he was having a psychotic break… considering the stress of the entrance exam Izuku felt close to one himself.

The blue-haired-boy went red and ramrod straight resembling a telephone box before sitting back down in his chair.

“Woah there, slow your role!” exclaimed the Pro-Hero, giving Izuku reprieve that he greatly appreciated. “You’re totally right cool dude, there are four villains, however, this one-” he pointed to the display of the fourth on the projection behind him “-is more of an obstacle, fighting it won’t give you any hero points, so you might just wanna avoid it, capiche?”

From behind Izuku could see the bobbing of the boy’s head turning into a blue blur.

The sound hero presented further answering any questions that came his way. He finished off with a quote.

“A true hero is one who overcomes life’s misfortunes”

Could Izuku do that, could he go beyond…

He never really had a choice…

Plus ultra.
