Work Text:

Toriel stepped outside, and onto the balcony, the cold air slightly nipping at her fur. As she sat down at the table, distant laughter could be heard from inside the house, which made her smile to herself.

The stars were shining brightly in the dark night sky, and since there wasn't much artifical light around their area, she could see thousands, maybe even millions of stars. The sight filled Toriel with delight, much like when they first left the underground, with the sight of the sun rising ahead of them. Despite the fact that the monsters had left the underground almost a year ago, the feeling still hadn't left. It felt almost surreal, seeing all the stars like this.

More muffled laughter erupted from inside the house, which made Toriel even more content. Just a few years ago, she was alone in her home in the ruins, accompanied only by the few small monsters, and the occasional passing human (who usually didn't stay that long, and still made Toriel sad, since she knew the unfortunate fate that most likely awaited them).

Needless to say, but Toriel's (and most of the other monsters) lives had changed for the better. She had finally fulfilled her dream of being a teacher, and even owned the first human-monster school in the world, which was still strangely surreal to her.

Suddenly, the door opened behind Toriel. She turned around to see Frisk in doorway, who quickly signed to her that they were just about to open presents! Toriel laughed, "okay my child. I will be in shortly!" she said with a smile. Frisk nodded, and walked back inside. Before going inside, Toriel sighed. Finally, she was home.
