Work Text:

Steve’s form cut through the water. His smooth strokes were a dance in grace. Danny would never admit it to his partner, but he found watching Steve swim to be relaxing.

He stood under the shade, a smile on his face, as Steve swam, never stopping to take a break.

And he knew when Steve was almost ready to be done. His strokes slowed as he headed back to shore.

Danny bent down to scoop up the towel and walked down the beach, meeting the other man as he came out of the water.

Steve’s posture was relaxed as he walked along the sand.

Danny handed him the towel, trying to not notice how the water dripped down his toned body. He licked his lips, forcing his mind away from the very nice thought of allowing his tongue to follow the path the water droplets took as they disappeared beneath the waistband of Steve’s bathing suit.

Steve wiped the towel over his hair.

“Feeling better?” Danny asked.

Steve smiled. “Definitely. Swimming always has a way of making me feel rejuvenated. There’s nothing like it.”

“Well, I think sitting in front of the television with a good sports game and a pizza does the same as waking up at 6 am just to swim 10 miles.”

“But my way is healthier,” Steve teased.

“That’s your opinion,” Danny rebuked.

Steve started walking back to the house, and Danny followed. When he was tired of the silence, he asked the million-dollar question. “Do you want to talk about it?”

“No, I really don’t.”

Danny nodded. He had expected that, but it was still disappointing. “I’m here if you need to talk.”

Steve stopped walking and faced him. “I know.”

They continued their trek back to the house in silence.

Nothing was resolved, but at least Steve knew he wasn’t alone. He had Danny, and he had his ocean. And that would have to be enough for now.

Notes:

I have no idea what season this takes place in. I have no idea what is bothering Steve. Don’t know if it’s about Doris, Catherine, or something else. There was meant to be just a general little story that didn’t require any extensive plotting.
