Work Text:

Aoba’s apron fit perfectly to his figure, remaining impeccable despite having been making dinner for several hours. The plates rested on the table, with the special cutlery and white linen they usually have for specific occasions. The sweet smell of freshly made food invaded the kitchen, reaching all the corners of their house and giving the boy a cosy\homelike feeling, being proud and happy of such an accomplishment because living with his lover made him feel full. Having everything ready for him such as cooking, a cleaned kitchen… Definitely, a perfect dinner for the two to celebrate another new year together. The only problem was that he had only one try to do it right, and he failed miserably.

He waited for the last minute to take the groceries, just as Koujaku left the house to work, because he wanted it to be a surprise. He almost got nothing, only a chicken, which was meager and sad compared to the beef that he wanted to make, but still he was determined to make a delicious meal, and more or less, he did right, until he tried to prepare the dessert.

They had always had good memories with a plate of mochis, starting with the day when they confessed their mutual love, and because of that he wanted to try making it.

He wasted two flour packages, only to finish with some thick and deformed balls, the ice cream melting and getting out from everywhere since it wasn’t properly closed. He tried to compensate with another cake, but Ren woke up from his nap and, with Beni, decided to make the kitchen their playground, spilling part of the mixture on him, staining the clothes that he carefully picked for the night and soaking his apron, that ended up completely wrecked. He tried to clean everything, as his clothes weren’t the only ones involved on the accident, but as he wiped the greasy oven tray from the juice of the chicken, a very unpleasant smell hit him like a truck, forcing him to hurry up and get the cake out of the oven. Unluckily of him, he slightly burned his hand and quickly leaving the cake on the marble counter to put his hand under the cold water of the sink.

The cake dropped to the floor, with a heavy thud.

“I’m back.” Koujaku entered through the door, with Ren welcoming him, Beni on top, and a strong burning smell. “Aoba?”

He softly patted Ren on his head, while he changed his shoes to his comfy slippers, leaving the bag he used to keep his hairdressing tools at the entrance.

Aoba used to welcome him, either out loud or reaching the front door.

He went to the kitchen, finding an atrocious scene. The water was running, the oven was still on, but nothing inside, pieces of what seemed to be a cake were stuck to the ceiling and all over the floor, and in the middle of the chaos, Aoba, stained with water, flour and all kind of food, was sitting there, with his head between his legs and his right hand extended.

“Aoba, are you alright?!” Koujaku approached him, closing the tap and turning off the oven before reaching him. His reddened eyes weren’t looking at him, but fixed on something else.

“I burned the food…” His low voice coming out in a whisper. Koujaku surrounded him with his arm, cradled him in his chest. “And my hand…” Said, raising his hand in front of his face.

Immediately, Koujaku checked on him, seeing that it wasn’t severe, except for a tiny white line that indicated where did his skin touch the hot surface of the oven.

“Well, this has an easy solution.” He slowly moved his hand closer to his lips, under the attentive gaze of the other, tenderly kissing every finger, his palm, his knuckles, the back of his hand… until feeling the soft, slight smile on Aoba’s lips, kissing now all over his face, listening to his childish laugh. Aoba’s arms went to his neck, and slowly separated them, moving his head searching for his lips.

Caressing his cheek, Koujaku finally kissed him, cupping his hand and cuddling as close as their posture allowed them.

Aoba felt like he was over the clouds. The painful heat on his hand disappeared, and all the overwhelming feeling that settled in his chest was replaced with a warm sensation tucking him from head to toes.

They sighed as they separated, their foreheads touching and their eyes closed. Aoba was subtly irritated, that was exactly what he most needed in that awful day, the warmth and the comfort his partner gave him, and he wasn’t willing to let it go so easily.

“And, how did that cake piece reach the ceiling?” Koujaku’s voice was calm, but didn’t cause the same effect on Aoba, who got a bit bothered with the memory.

“I got angry.” The short answer wasn’t exactly useful, so he raised an eyebrow, waiting for the other to continue his explanation while getting up of the floor and helping the other to do the same. “Well, I just… I burned myself, it dropped to the floor, I got angry and… maybe I threw it… but it is not my fault, the oven is broken, we have to replace it, I just don’t get how did it manage to burn the cake on the top but the bottom is still raw.”

“That explains why the ceiling is dripping with… cake.” He contained a laugh, the situation was hilarious and somehow cute, as he made an effort to cook something for him, even if he wasn’t that good of a cook. “So…” Koujaku cornered Aoba against the countertop with his body. “Does that mean that you’re my dessert tonight?” He whispered close to his ear, as he raised his face, revealing his neck, and licking shamelessly the white stain that was formerly part of the cake he had tried to bake.

“Koujaku…” Aoba sighed, but he couldn’t make him continue, since he stopped to grab him by his thighs and lift him, standing in the middle of the kitchen, enjoying the closeness to kiss again, this time more intensely, caressing the young man’s back, who was intertwining his finger on the locks of his soft and kept hair, undoing the low ponytail.

“We could do this every year.” Said Koujaku between his own gasps.

“Kissing under raw cake?”

“That too.” He said beaming, carrying him to their room.
