Daichi as yawned he trudged along the shoreline. The breeze of the ocean brushed up against him and he shivered, hugging his jacket closer to him. He looked up and saw a few little lights in the sky.
”Screw light pollution,” He grumbled. “I wanna see stars.
Daichi looked back at the house behind him. It was his friend Kuroo’s, and currently, he was hosting a party. The latter thought it would be fun for Daichi if he got out a little and had some fun.
Daichi really did not like parties.
A song started playing and you could practically feel the bass from where he was standing.
He furrowed his eyebrows, “He listens to Ratsi? Huh.”
He trudged on.

He really should have brought a flashlight. With the wind rushing around him, clouds followed in suit and covered up his light source; the moon.
He took a liking to the moon. He sometimes had conversations with her, though she never talked back, she was always there.
He liked the moon.
Daichi stopped and turned to the ocean. With water brushing against his feet, he sat.
He closed his eyes.

Daichi opened an eye.
“Hello?”

He opened his other eye and looked around. No one was there, but him.
So he got up from where he was, and he started walking.

He sat down again, this time in the ocean. If he was this far away, no one would care. Not even himself.
Though he’s found that he doesn’t care much about anything lately.
He pulled his knees up to him and watched the water. It pulled and pushed at him, but he never moved.
The water whispered their song to him, and he started to relax. The sway of the water and the sound of splashing.
The sound of splashing?
What?
He shook his head, shaking his daze away from him, and looked around.
Eyes.
He squinted at the water in front of him.

Eyes.
“Hello?”

Daichi closed his eyes and tilted his head up. “Gods I need sleep, I’m hallucinating.”
He opened his eyes and looked back at the ocean.
Except the ocean wasn’t there.
Instead, eyes stared back at him.
Daichi yelped and stood up, but the ocean denied him and pulled him back, he fell back onto the sand, water swelling back around him.
”Damn water-“
”Don’t damn the water.”
Daichi snapped his head up and saw a person in front of him.
With the same eyes, he saw in the water.
“What are you doing the water? Isn’t cold?”
The person in front of him tilted his head.
”Aren’t you the one laying in it?”
”Excus-“
Daichi looked around him.
”Oh.”
He quickly got up out of the water and felt the air grabbing at him. He felt the goosebumps threatening to cover him.
The person in the water smiled, “What are you doing up there? Isn’t the air cold?”
Daichi glared at the person, “You’re a joy to be around, huh?”
”Only if the person I’m talking to is a joy too.”
The two stared at each other.
Daichi sat down in the dry sand.
”Well? Coming out of the water?”
”Are you judgmental?”
”Look dude, if you have body issues..” Daichi stopped as the person pulled themselves out of the water.
”Oh.”
The person wasn’t a person at all.
They were a merman.
”You’re… a merperson.”
The merperson dragged themselves to sit by Daichi.
”No, I’m a vampire.”
Daichi stared at them. The other stared back.
”You’re kinda stupid.”
”Excuse me?”
The merperson shrugged, “Just stating the obvious, just like you do.”
Daichi ‘tch-ed,’ and stared back at the ocean, “Just because I state the obvious, doesn’t mean I’m stupid.”
The other cocked his eyebrow up, “Yeah? Then what species am I?”
”Excuse me?”
”Oh sorry, what kind of merperson am I?”
”No need to dumb it down, Jesus.”
Daichi looked down and felt his brain turn to mush. He was looking at a real merperson.
”You’re a Lionfish.”
The other nodded his head, “Something like that.”
Silence squeezed between them.
”Usually when people see my fins, they start screaming. Why didn’t you do that?”
Daichi thought for a minute. Then, “I don’t know.”
The sound of waves surrounds both of them.
”What’s your name?”
Daichi turned to the merperson, “Names have power, yknow.”
The merperson rolled his eyes, “So you aren’t as dumb as you act.”
”Wh-“
”I’ll give you my name if you give me yours.”
”You go first.”
The merperson’s eyes flashed with an unreadable emotion. That’s when Daichi really noticed his eyes.
An almost unnatural brown, with sprinkles of orange throughout.
“It’s Sugawara. Call me, Suga.”
Their eyes were glowed underneath the moonlight.
”Daichi. I’m Daichi.”
”Wonderful to meet you, Daichi.”
