Chapter Text
In the family Madrigal you always hear about the same persons: Isabela, the perfect one, Luisa, the strongest woman on earth, Julieta, the one who heals you with arepas...
But they never show the "weird" side of the family. The imperfect side. We can even call it the unspoken side.
And that's Bruno's side of the family.
Bruno, like the other two of the triplets, fell in love once. He started talking with this girl named Olivia when he was a teenager: She had a beautiful dark skin, long black curly hair, and gray eyes.
She was always alone, watching the other kids her age play, until Bruno appeared. He sat down next to her, without saying a word. He didn't even notice her at the time, because he was feeling sad, but then they both started talking.
"I'm Olivia" she said "You must be Bruno Madrigal, right?
He nodded
"Why are you like that? Did something happen?" Olivia asked
"My gift isn't helping anyone... Everyone gets mad at me because they get a bad future!" He explained, clearly frustrated and also sad "They all get mad, and think I give bad luck!"
"But... that isn't your fault, Bruno."
Olivia's words surprised him.
"¿What?" he asked
"You're just doing what they ask you to do: see their future. You have no control over it! If they get a bad future, it's their actions that cause it, not yours."
Olivia looked angry while talking, because she hated when people get mad at someone for something that's their fault, but then smiled at Bruno. He did the same.
"Yeah, you're right..."
Since that day, they started talking constantly. Olivia understood Bruno, and Bruno understood Olivia. They were made for eachother.
Years passed, and they officially became a couple. Then, they got married. They loved eachother a lot. More than Bruno could ever imagine.
Olivia became one of the "tías" of the house. And a very loved one.
She was sweet with every niece she had. She helped Isabela with her hair, braiding it when she asked her to, told stories about her family to Dolores, and took care of Luisa after using so much streght, even when Luisa told her she was fine and didn't need to rest.
Every kid loved her. And she loved them too.
Bruno also loved kids, but he never got time to learn how to actually take care of a baby. When Isabela was just born, everyone was taking care of her, but she was mostly with her parents, so he never had time to even hold her.
But, one day, they started talking about the topic with Olivia. Kids, parenting, everything like that.
They both wanted a little kid to take care of. To watch them grow up together, and raise it to be a good Madrigal.
But Bruno knew what was going to happen if they had a kid: they would be a Madrigal, so they would receive a gift sooner or later. That meant that the kid would have to work for the people of the town, but also that they would have to please the Abuela everyday of their life.
"Are you sure you want to do it?" Bruno asked, while holding his wife's hands
"I'm sure" she answered "But, Are you sure, mi amor?"
"I am"
And like that, they made the desicion. Months later, in September, a beautiful baby boy was born.
The baby had dark curly hair like both of his parents. His skin was brown, and also really soft.
But what made everyone gasp was how pretty the baby's eyes were.
Everyone was next to Olivia, who was holding him. His cousins were exited, looking at the new member of the family with enthusiasm. Bruno's sisters were almost crying because of how happy they were, and their husbands were there to calm them down, also looking at the child.
And of course, Bruno was crying because of how beautiful their baby was.
"He's so beautiful..." he said
"He is, he is" Olivia said
"He still needs a name, right?" Felix asked
Olivia nodded. And then: Silence. All the attention was in the little baby boy that was in Olivia's arms.
"Wanna hold it, cariño?" She asked, looking at her husband
"Me?"
"Of course. You are the parent too, after all"
Bruno nodded, and Olivia gave the baby to him. Now, everyone looked at Bruno, who was smiling.
Until something happened. The baby moved a bit, and then, for the first time in the few days that he had been born, he opened his eyes. But really opened them.
The baby looked directly at his dad, and Bruno looked at him. The baby had beautiful gray eyes like his mother, but even lighter than Olivia's.
"He...he opened his eyes!" Bruno announced
"Wow... they're so pretty" said little Isabela, who was being held by his mother to look at the baby
"He's looking directly at you... like a lion" Commented Dolores, who was in his father's arms
"Dolores!" Pepa exclamed
"No, no. She's right" Bruno said "Like a lion..."
The couple looked at his child, and then looked at eachother, to say something the same time:
"Leo"
They both smiled after realizing they were thinking the same.
"Leo Madrigal" Olivia said
"Welcome to the family, Leito" said Bruno
The baby smiled after recognizing his parent's voices, and laughed.
Yes, that was his name. Leo Madrigal, the son of Olivia and Bruno Madrigal.
And that's how this story started: the story that's never told, but always happened.
