Work Text:

Beams of early morning sunshine broke through the window, brightening the bedroom little by little. Chani yawned and rubbed his eyes behind his glasses. His hand absentmindedly drifted to his partner’s hair as he sat up against the headboard scrolling through Facebook.

“Chani-yah,” Jaeyoon’s morning voice was scratchy and deeper than normal as he turned and squinted up, “Why are you awake?”

“It’s my birthday.”

“I know,” Jaeyoon pouted, pushing himself up on his elbows, “I was going to surprise you with breakfast. You’re never up before noon.”

Chani sighed. “I just got notified that I still need one more soul to fill my quota for the year. Apparently, I suck at counting.”

“Too bad I already gave you mine.”

“I know. We should have made an official transaction before falling in love. You wouldn’t think the King of Hell would be such a stickler for the rules.”

“You should appeal to HR.”

“Haha,” Chani laughed humorlessly, “here, come help me.”

Jaeyoon scooted up in bed and snuggled into Chani’s warmth. “That guy is obsessed with Kai,” he pointed at the phone screen, “You could get him a meeting.”

“Taeyang?” Chani rolled his eyes, “I’ve tried him. He wants to meet his idol organically.

“Hmmm,” Jaeyoon hummed thoughtfully. He linked his hand into Chani’s and rested his head on his shoulder. “How about him? He looks ambitious.”

“Inseong thinks everything is a joke. No one has gotten anywhere with him. I want to work smarter not harder.”

They lapsed into a comfortable silence as they read snippets of various people’s lives.

“Oh no!” Jaeyoon exclaimed, “Huru needs dialysis? Juho must be devastated.”

“What’s that?” Chani stopped scrolling to look closer at the post.

“Juho, you know, my songwriter friend. His cat is everything to him.”

“Oh…” Chani tapped on the picture of the orange cat that took him to Juho’s profile. A big GoFundMe banner greeted him with a plea to contribute to Huru’s medical bill.

Jaeyoon reached for his own phone. “I should send him something.”

“No,” Chani’s hand reached over to stop him, “I’ll take care of it.” He swiftly opened the DMs and shot off a quick note to the desperate cat dad.

Barely half a minute passed before the phone dinged in response. Chani smiled and put his phone aside before turning his attention back to Jaeyoon.

“Now then,” he pressed a kiss to Jaeyoon’s temple, “We have two hours before I have to go meet him and seal the deal.”

“I think we can find some way to pass the time.” Jaeyoon pulled Chani’s glasses off his face and carefully set them on the bedside table. “I’m all yours.”

“I know.”
