Work Text:
After being scolded again for using her powers to ensure the bullet hit the target where she wanted it to, Adriana Lensherr finally asked, "Why is it we are doing this? Why do I need to know how to do this?" A frustrated Helmut Zemo tried explaining this again, "If you can accurately shoot you can move much more quickly from target to target." Zemo then demonstrates by firing in rapid succession at four different targets hitting each one in or near the center. "As you can see I am able to hit four targets in about the same time it's taking you to hitone. The faster you can shoot accurately the better chance you and your colleagues have on the battlefield."
Adriana sighs, "I'm not military."
Zemo, holding his frustration in check, "You're working for the German Government as a contractor for multiple things which include mercenary functions. Accurate shooting and fighting abilities would be useful that."
Adriana, a little startled, replies, "How do you know what I'm doing?"
Zemo, shakes his head, "I've only been working in intelligence for a bit over a year now, or did you for that is what I chose to go into?"
Adriana, "I know you're an intelligence officer. Just didn't know you could find that out. Still not sure why I fully need to know how to shoot and fight."
Zemo, his head slightly tilted, "As far as I know you still don't want many people to know about your powers. Also I'm eventually going to be running the entire Intelligence Department, plus leading my own covert team. When that happens it would be useful to be able to hire you on contract for specific types of missions. However, to justify this you must be able to shoot and fight. Also I don't want my team afraid of you."
Adriana finally gives in, "Ok, fine. Teach me to shoot. "
Zemo smirks, then exchanges magazines on the gun Adriana has. "I'm going to teach you to shoot first with your left hand, then your right hand" He hands her the gun back. He stands behind her and places his left hand on hers then explains to her how to stand, while using his body to ensure she is in the right position. She fires when he tells her to and doesn't use her powers this time. The bullet hit the target near the center circle. Zemo praises her, "Good shot. In the filed that would hit the target." They spend the rest of the day at the range with Zemo teaching Adriana how to shoot different types of guns.
The following morning after breakfast it was time to teach some basic hand to hand combat skills. The first item was to teach Adriana how to keep her balance and then how to gain leverage. Ater spending the morning attempting to learn how to gain leverage so she can turn the tables in fights with people taller and physically stronger than her, she finally realizes why this is a good idea. "Ok, I get it." Zemo gives her a mildly confused look, "Get what?" Adriana smiles, "I understand why you want to teach me how to fight. It is simpler in close quarters."
Zemo then explains, "Currently I'm just teaching you defense. I'll teach you how to turn it into offense later, along with teaching you offense."
Adriana, now curious, "When do I learn offense?"
Zemo explains, "After you prove you have the basics."
Adriana now excited, "I can do that this afternoon."
Zemo smirks, "You have to prove it to me tomorrow as well. This afternoon you have to get out of holds while I'm using more strength to hold you."
For the rest of the week they continued to work on both shooting and fighting skills. By the end of the week, Adriana had proven she is quick at learning skills, although some still need improvement. The next time she visits Helmut and his family she gets a refresher course in what she had been taught. Once Helmut is satisfied she has those skills to where she can use them as a reaction he begins to teach her offensive moves. He starts by teaching her how to punch and where the punches do the most damage. As the week progresses he teaches her basic throws and kicks. Adriana proves just as quick at learning the offensive moves as she had the defensive moves.
Over the next several years Helmut Zemo continues to teach Adriana Lensherr the skills she will need to join his team, which include the most advanced fighting skills along with fighting with weapons such as knives. During this time Zemo rises through the ranks of the Sokovian military becoming the leader of EKO Scorpion and head of the Intelligence Department along with the rank of Colonel.
