Work Text:
Hot date.
Sunoo was ecstatic for his date which was to take place in a fancy restaurant with cuisine the price of his monthly rent. He was more than ready to fit his waist into the tightest leather pants he owned, throw on a mesh undershirt and a pink blazer over top, and gel his hair into insanity. He was definitely ready for the small talk, the questions, the pressure of keeping a date interesting enough, yet leave room for a little bit of mystery.
But there was only one thing he wasn’t prepared for.
“SUNGHOON!”
The door to his roommate’s bedroom nearly fell straight off of its hinges at the sheer impact of his shoulder jamming into it. A weak golden glow from a bedside lamp illuminated the posters crowding Sunghoon’s walls, and his desk that was lazily pushed up to the side. It was splattered with papers and books, leaving no room for anything else to be set upon it. Over the cluster of items, Sunoo was able to spot a loose paper with: I hate this stupid school shit scrawled onto it with Sunghoon’s jagged handwriting.
Sunoo unceremoniously tossed himself into the confines of Sunghoon’s space, swallowing his laugh at the bewildered expression on the older boy’s face as he took a seat on the queen-sized bed. Sunghoon remained unmoving, his back propped up against the headboard and his ankles crossed.
“What the hell…” Sunghoon said, his tone icy cold. “Why did you barge in here like that?”
“Are you busy?” Sunoo shook Sunghoon’s leg and felt somewhat childish afterwards. “C’mon, you aren’t busy right? You have time to spare?”
The platinum blond locks of Sunghoon’s hair were disrupted from their usual getup, his face contorted into something tired and worn out. He gave Sunoo a wary look before he splayed his arms out as if to say, Does it seem like I have anything better to do?
Sunoo bit his lower lip, wringing his hands in his lap. He spun his body to the side so that he was facing Sunghoon head-on, yet he couldn’t meet his roommate’s gaze as he formulated sentences in his head to convey what he was really here for. Not to spite Sunghoon like he usually did, not to rant over a lecture, not to convince him to watch a rom-com when everyone else rejected his offer, not even to ask for money because the latter was filthy rich. The fact that Sunghoon chose to live in a moderate apartment with Sunoo was beyond his comprehension.
“Sunghoon… you’ve been my roommate for three years now…” Sunoo started, forcing himself to bring his eyes to level on Sunghoon. He had a scowl resting on his features, but Sunoo knew it wasn’t personal. “And we’re on good terms, right? We’re solid…”
“Are you going to confess to me?” The scowl broke and a haughty smirk emerged.
Sunoo suddenly wanted to run out of the room, to hell with his intentions of being there in the first place. Park Sunghoon and his gigantic ego.
“No!” Sunoo practically shrieked.
He felt the itchy sensation of sweat crawling up his entire body, and he was certain that he was going to ruin his outfit before he could even make it to the venue. Without a second thought, Sunoo shrugged out of his blazer and tossed it onto the floor, leaving the thin mesh undershirt clinging to his chest. If he hadn’t taken his line of sight off of Sunghoon, he would’ve noticed Sunghoon’s eyes widen a fraction and then return to his usual glare.
“I…” Sunoo trailed off.
“You…” Sunghoon taunted.
“I’m trying to ask you if you can… uhmmm…”
“If I can… what?”
“If… if you can…”
Sunghoon raised one of his perfectly styled brows, eyeing Sunoo carefully. “What?”
The younger assessed his possible exit routes. He could tell Sunghoon to forget about it and scurry away with nothing achieved. He could ask Sunghoon to help him with his English homework as a cover up. He could jump out of the fucking window and end his misery.
He decided to rip the bandaid off because he was Kim Sunoo. Capable. Totally.
Sunoo took a deep breath, staring right into Sunghoon’s eyes which were silvery thanks to his contact lenses.
“Can you teach me how to kiss?” Sunoo blurted out in one quick burst.
There was nothing but painstaking silence.
Not once did Sunoo falter his gaze and he saw Sunghoon’s face wash over with multiple emotions at once. For the most part, his roommate was flabbergasted, amused, and maybe even a little… satisfied?
“You want me to teach you,” Sunghoon paused for a second, “how to kiss?”
“Yeah,” Sunoo answered.
Sunghoon’s laugh had an edge to it. “What if I say no?”
“Sunghoon!” Sunoo wailed, lobbing his head forward in agony before he let out a guttural whine. “Help me or else I will find someone else.”
The air around them stirred as Sunghoon sat up straighter, warring with his inner thoughts and ebbing Sunoo’s desperation. Sunoo was adamant on getting rid of his one dating flaw and he didn’t care how stupid he looked, practically throwing himself onto his roommate like a rabid dog.
“I have a date later, as you know, and I’m good with everything else. But, I’ve never kissed anyone in my entire life and if my date ends up leaning in for some mouth to mouth contact, I think I’d scare him away and completely embarrass myself with my lack of skills,” Sunoo took in a sharp inhale, clutching his chest as he caught his breath. ‘So, please help me.”
A strikingly hot warmth engulfed Sunoo’s neck and face. If he could make any guesses, he was probably turning a shade of beet red as he waited for Sunghoon’s response. He was beginning to feel lightheaded and woozy, and if he was lucky, he wouldn’t throw up in the next five seconds. Why the hell did he come here? Why was he asking Sunghoon for this?
“Why are you asking me? ” Sunghoon practically read his mind.
Sunoo shrugged. “You’ve kissed people before.”
“How do you know that I’d be good enough to teach you?”
“Sunghoon.” Sunoo rolled his eyes, releasing a disgruntled scoff. “The people you go on dates with always come knocking on our apartment’s door looking for you. If you were a horrible kisser, I’m pretty sure that they wouldn’t flock around you for weeks on end.”
“Point taken,” Sunghoon hummed.
The bastard’s ego was probably the size of a skyscraper by now.
Sunoo watched Sunghoon’s eyes rove over him, but it didn’t make him uncomfortable. It was more judgemental than anything suggestive.
“Come here,” Sunghoon lifted up a finger, curling it towards him. “Come.”
Although Sunoo’s head was barely at a functioning pace, he slowly clambered to Sunghoon’s side, his knee brushing against the older’s hip. He kept his hands in his lap, unsure of what to do with himself. A part of him wanted to touch something, anything. Maybe he should rest his hands on Sunghoon’s waist, or place them around his neck. Another part of him was too nervous to move, too scared of screwing up.
The irrational side of his brain was telling him to ball his hand up into a fist and punch Sunghoon unconscious, and then say it was all a fever dream if Sunghoon ever asked about it.
“Closer, Sunoo,” Sunghoon’s voice was low, a husky tone accompanying it.
Sunoo did as he was told and leaned in further, his breath gliding across Sunghoon’s lips. He was suddenly glad that he had rinsed his mouth with mint mouthwash earlier. He could feel the heat emanating off of Sunghoon’s body and Sunoo’s chest flared up with something akin to excitement. They had never been just inches away from each other, never so intimate.
“Don’t laugh at me if I end up bombing this,” Sunoo mumbled.
The ghost of a smile curled up on Sunghoon’s lips before he brought himself up the rest of the way, brushing those same lips against Sunoo’s with the grace of a ballerina. Sunoo had to gulp down the surprised gasp that threatened to escape him as the electricity jolted throughout his pumping veins, his heartbeat jumping up a few paces when he felt Sunghoon’s teeth gently sink into his bottom lip. Sunghoon tilted his head to one side and Sunoo went the opposite way, their mouths clustering together in tandem and their tongues tangling. Sunoo’s chin was tipped upwards with Sunghoon’s curled index finger, then said finger made a path along Sunoo’s jaw. He was good. So good.
Sunoo’s insides burned, his mind was completely thrown off kilter, and his heart was going to projectile launch into outer space. Why why was Park Sunghoon such a fucking expert?
While Sunghoon moved in calculated, precise angles, Sunoo was sloppy and all over the place. There was a slight twinge of shame creeping up Sunoo’s spine because he wasn’t used to being under such weight, even though he was technically the one toppling over Sunghoon’s body. The immense internal pressure to do better, better than Sunghoon, to impress Sunghoon in some way was digging into Sunoo’s rib cage like a spear.
In result to his overthinking, Sunoo’s head swam with his insecurities all at once and it overwhelmed the hell out of him. He jerkily yanked out of the kiss with a shaky breath, half-expecting to fall through the cotton of Sunghoon’s bed sheets and land ass first into the apartment below them.
“Sorry I…” Sunoo awkwardly laughed and shook his head. “I’m sorry.”
“Do you want to stop?” Sunghoon inched back. For some reason, it made Sunoo’s heart pang with a recognizable amount of hurt. No, Sunoo wanted to scream.
But the word was caught in his throat. When Sunghoon nodded and moved even further away, Sunoo panicked and wrapped a hand around the back of Sunghoon’s neck, pulling him in and closing the space between them once more.
“ Mmphhh, ” was the only noise that came from Sunghoon.
Sunoo mimicked what Sunghoon had done, pitching his head to an angle for easy access to the older boy’s mouth, delicately sucking on Sunghoon’s lower lip and grazing his teeth over when it felt right. He involuntarily whimpered as an arm snaked around his waist and the kiss deepened, white spots invading the blackness behind Sunoo’s shut eyes. A hand came to rest on Sunoo’s thigh and secured him in place. His body suddenly became limp and he let his tense muscles relax, practically falling on top of Sunghoon as they continued to make out.
The previous insecurities that Sunoo was digging up began to vanish one by one. If he really was horrendous at kissing, Sunghoon wouldn’t have been allowing this to go on for longer than it should have. He wouldn’t have been pulling Sunoo down, refusing to loosen his grip at the risk of the younger boy rushing away.
A warm tongue slid into the cave of Sunoo’s mouth, exploring the unknown territory. Sunoo allowed it, and he even enjoyed it much more than he had anticipated. They kept pressing up against each other as if they weren’t close enough, despite there being zero space left to invade. More, more more more, Sunoo’s head sang like a mantra.
No wonder Sunghoon’s dates had trouble getting over him.
Handsome face, perfect physique, smooth talk to reel the conversations in his favour, the skills to rattle one’s world with a simple kiss. Or, in their case, multiple kisses.
“Take five,” Sunghoon was the one to break away this time, his breaths ragged and inconsistent. “Or else your lips are going to be sore.”
Sunoo’s roommate, who had looked beaten up minutes ago, had a dazed glint to his eyes and his lips were shiny with evidence of what they had just been doing. Sunghoon’s hand locked around Sunoo’s waist while the other was still on his thigh. Their chests heaved as their bodies took back the oxygen that they had been deprived of.
If Sunoo was going to be honest, the sight of Sunghoon post-make out was the hottest thing that he had ever seen in his life. Sunghoon staring down at him, recovering from the high of their tango, eyes half-lidded and borderline drugged. His lips partly open and swollen a shade of red, inviting.
Incapable of holding himself back, Sunoo brought the pad of his thumb up to Sunghoon’s lips and softly swiped at them. His skin tingled at the warmth of the contact and it sent a shudder racking through his shoulders. He dared to dip his finger a bit deeper, the heat of Sunghoon’s mouth clawing at him viciously. Sunghoon merely watched him as Sunoo traced around his lips as if it was a blank canvas waiting to be smeared with paint.
A hand clasped around Sunoo’s wrist and collided with his stuttering pulse, pulling his thumb away from the mouth that had just been on his.
“You should give yourself more credit,” Sunghoon kept his grip on Sunoo loose. “That kiss wasn’t as bad as I had expected.”
Sunoo huffed out a laugh. “I’m a quick learner.”
“Yeah. You are,” Sunghoon told him.
They both stilled as their breaths became calm and steady, simply staring at each other in the dim lighting of Sunghoon’s bedroom. Sunoo had gotten what he had came for—a kissing lesson for dummies. He should thank Sunghoon and turn tail since he still had a bit of preparation to do before his date. He shouldn’t be so over the moon with how Sunghoon had kissed him, and he definitely shouldn’t be wishing it to happen again. Sunghoon was his roommate, his friend, nothing more or less.
“Thanks for um… for teaching me,” Sunoo brought his hands down to rest on Sunghoon’s chest, a rebellious heartbeat thrumming underneath his palm.
“Yeah,” Sunghoon nodded absentmindedly. “Anytime.”
Sunoo giggled, although Sunghoon’s expression remained blank. “ Anytime? ” The younger one teased.
Once the realization of what he had said crashed into him, Sunghoon snorted and pressed his palms to his eyes. He was doing a horrible job at hiding his smile and Sunoo found a loopy grin tugging at the corners of his lips in return
“I didn’t mean it like that,” Sunghoon muttered.
Sunoo’s laugh was light. “What did you mean?”
“I meant it as another way to say ‘you’re welcome’,” Sunghoon said.
Sunoo managed to drag Sunghoon’s hands away from his face, but not without a loud protest on Sunghoon’s end.
“So… does that mean I can’t kiss you again?” Sunoo asked albeit timidly, interlocking his fingers with Sunghoon’s.
“What?” Sunghoon stammered. “Don’t you have a date to get to?”
Sunoo gave him a nonchalant shrug. “A recap of this lesson wouldn’t hurt my date.”
Sunoo’s eyelids fluttered shut as he found himself melting into Sunghoon’s touch for the nth time that night, the intoxicating taste of his roommate’s mouth swallowing the rest of his cares for the world.
Safe to say that Sunoo cancelled his date that night. And never went on another one. Ever again.
