Snowflakes on the Seashore by Wildefire86

“What’s this white stuff falling from the sky?” Shadow asked incredulously as he stared at the gentle snowfall. “This is called snow Shadow, it’s what happens when its cold enough for rain to freeze before it falls down” Sonic replied, adjusting his scarf slightly as the breeze had shifted it slightly.
Shadow kept looking up, small snowflakes landing in his ebony quills. Quickly melting away due to his high body heat. But in those fleeting moments when they landed, Shadow looked like the nights sky, small twinkling of stars against a dark expanse. Sonic couldn’t help but stare as Shadow seemed slightly bewildered at the gentle downfall.
“And why are we at the beach for this Sonic?” Shadow asked, turning to face his companion. “Isn’t it obvious Shadow, near my shack its almost impossible to get a proper view thanks to all the trees in the way.” Sonic replied keeping his eyes on his ebony companion.
“That and I gotta make you first encounter with snow count.” he added as he slowly put his arm around Shadow’s waist. The ebony hedgehog cherished the moment, standing there at the waters edge looking at the chaotic but gentle patterns the snow made as it got dragged along in the wind.
The moment couldn’t have been more perfect. That is until he was hit in the head by a lump of snow. He hadn’t noticed Sonic had taken a handful of snow and decided to start an attack. “What was that for Sonic?” Shadow growled. The cobalt hero looked tense for a moment before grabbing another handful, compacting it to a sphere and whipping it towards Shadow.
The snowball just barely missed the hedgehog’s head before another made impact onto his stomach. Soaking the fur before flopping onto the ground. “SNOWBALL FIGHT!!!” Yelled Sonic as he lobbed another snowball towards Shadow. This one hitting the hybrid square in the forehead.
Shadow grumbled as he grabbed a handful himself and threw it at Sonic at full force. Shadow threw so hard the snow just dispersed, cloaking Sonic in flurry of Snow which the cobalt hero used to his advantage. Throwing a few snowballs in random directions before dashing off.
As the snow dissipated Shadow got ready for another throw but was suddenly slammed to the side by a giggling Sonic. Both hedgehogs crashing into a soft snowbank. Shadow looked over at Sonic who was looking up at the sky, wildly waving his arms and legs moving the snow out of the way.
“What are you doing?” Shadow asked trying to hide a slight smile. “I’m making a snow angel.” Sonic replied through giggles.
“C’mon just copy what I’m doing, its Fun.” The cobalt hedgehog laughed. Shadow stared for a moment before slowly moving along with Sonic’s movements. “This is actually kind of fun.” Shadow chuckled.
After a while of the two hedgehogs laughing and rolling around in the snow. They both got up to admire their work. A dozen or so Snow angels scattered across the beach’s various snowdrifts.
Sonic softly squeezed Shadow’s hand as he rested his head on his partner’s shoulder. Gazing out along the beach, Sonic felt content having gotten Shadow to enjoy a night out just having fun and not having to worry about when Eggman would come to ruin things.
“Maria would have loved this” Shadow sighed. “She always talked excitedly about snow and playing in it. I’m glad I could make that dream come true for her.” Sonic once again wrapped his arm around Shadow’s waist and pulled the hybrid a little closer.
“I’m glad you had fun Shads. I’m sure she would ha, ha, ACHOO , have Loved it” Sonic said. Sniffling loudly. “Lets get you inside” Shadow cooed “A blanket and some hot chocolate” He added before making their way home.
