Chapter Text
Kirishima and Bakugou strolled through the park that was near the UA campus. They had planned to go for a run, but the cold weather made them change their minds. It was a winter evening and the air was dry and freezing. It made Katsuki shiver.
"I told you to bring an extra jacket, dude," Kirishima said matter-of-factly. "You know you can't handle the cold."
"Shut your mouth, Shitty-hair, you’re lucky I agreed to even walk with you in this weather." Bakugou snapped, even though the red head wasn't wrong. His quirk was built for warmer temperatures, therefore his body was better at handling the hot rather than the cold. Still, he was too stubborn to admit that Eijirou was right. He still couldn't help but shiver.
"You'll get a cold at this rate, are you sure you're alright?" Eijirou worried. Even though the blonde insisted, Kirishima knew him well enough to know he was just protecting his pride. "C'mon, you're freezing. I don't wanna be the cause of your death. Here," Kirishima slipped off his jacket and held it out to Bakugou.
"I don't need your dumb jacket--" Katsuki started, but was cut off when the jacket was thrown at him. He yanked it off of his face, it felt soft on the inside.
"Don't throw a tantrum, just wear it man! It'll keep you warm." Kirishima chuckled and continued walking. “Plus, you won’t feel like absolute death. You’re welcome.” Bakugou grumbled as he slung his arms through the jacket. He didn't want to admit how comfortable it felt.
It was an average winter coat. It had a wooly inside, very cozy and warm, with a parka-like material on the outside. It had quite a few big pockets, as well as a big hoodie in the back. It wasn't ugly either. It was a beige-ish color, and it wasn't too puffy.
It also smelled a tad bit like Kirishima.
Katsuki's cheeks flushed a rosy pink. He blamed it on the cold and continued walking.
"Heh, d'you like the coat, Bakubro?" Kirishima laughed, seeing how Bakugou had cozied up to it.
"It's fine." Bakugou replied shortly, averting his gaze. "Shouldn't we be heading back already, dumbass? I don't wanna be out past curfew."
"Oh! Right! Let's turn around then," Eijirou said in response, changing his route back towards the dorm building.
When the two got back to their room floor, Kirishima paused before going into his room. "That was a pretty nice walk, Bakugou. Aside from the cold. Let me know if you ever wanna do that again!" He smiled a toothy grin and opened his door, walking inside. "See ya, dude!" He closed the door.
Bakugou nodded in response to his first sentence, and raised his hand in a light wave to say goodbye. He walked into his own room and plopped down onto his bed. He felt himself starting to sweat lightly, the layers he had on were too much for being inside, so he shed off the clothes he had been wearing before, and changed into his pajamas.
It was after he had settled down that he noticed he had one extra article of clothing with him that he didn't have before he left.
'Oh. Kirishima's jacket. I should give this back to him.' He thought to himself.
He picked up the jacket to give to his friend who was only one room away, when something fell out of one of the pockets.
Katsuki reached down to pick it up. It was an iPod. "Who the hell even owns an iPod anymore?" He snickered out loud. Curious, he turned it on. The lock screen wasn't anything special, just an old picture of Crimson Riot that Kirishima liked. Nerd.
There wasn't any password to get in. There weren't many apps either.
"Jesus, how boring is he? This is practically a burner phone." Katsuki looked at the screen, noticing the Spotify app was there. He clicked on it, the only thing standing out from the default apps.
Bakugou absentmindedly scrolled through Kirishima's playlists and podcasts, when he noticed a certain playlist titled "for bakugou."
"Eh?" He questioned himself, clicking on it. 'What the hell is this? Why does he have a playlist about me?' The blonde examined the songs there. They were from plenty of different artists. Some songs were in Japanese, some in Korean, and some in English.
He started the playlist on shuffle, the first song playing lowly through the small speaker. Katsuki looked at the details of the song.
'Goodbye, My Danish Sweetheart, by Mitski.' He read. He looked up the lyrics and read them as he listened. "Huh. What a downer." He let the next song play. And then the next. And the next.
Katsuki hardly realized the amount of time that passed while he listened to the playlist with sad songs, happy songs; a plethora of different genres. Some by artists that were Korean, others were Japanese, and others were American or English. He was engulfed in the entire playlist.
By the time Katsuki finished listening to it all, it was well past 9 pm, and he was a blushing mess. The songs clearly expressed how Kirishima felt towards Bakugou.
There were feelings of envy, longing, and… love . He wanted him to himself, but didn’t want to give into that hidden selfishness. He loved him. And it wasn’t an innocent fairytale love, but a heart wrenching, frustrating love, because Eijirou felt that he could never reach him.
Katsuki rewinded one of the songs to relisten, a particular set of lyrics sticking with him afterwards. 'Everything’s strange, you’ve changed, And I don’t know what to do to get through, I don’t know what to do.'
Bakugou's face burned an intense red. As he copied the songs into his own Spotify playlist, he folded up the jacket and grabbed the iPod. He left his room, placing the jacket on the floor in front of Eijirou's door, placing the iPod on top of it.
He left it for the redhead to find in the morning and went back to his room.
Katsuki struggled to fall asleep that night. His mind raced with endless thoughts regarding his best friend. What would he say to Eijirou tomorrow morning? Would he know that he listened to the playlist? Should he tell him that he listened to it? Would he know that he reciprocated his feelings? Bakugou threw his covers over his head exasperatedly, groaning. “This is so stupid. Why am I stressing so hard over this?”
So many thoughts regarding Eijirou endlessly swarmed Katsuki’s mind. ‘What would we even be like as a couple? Would I be good enough for him? Does he even deserve someone like me? If we did date, I’d have to be nicer to him. I’m not good at being nice..’
The blonde eventually did fall asleep, his thoughts calmed down a bit too, letting his worries rest for the remainder of the night.
As for Eijirou, he didn’t even know the iPod was missing. It completely slipped his mind that it was in his jacket pocket, and his night was completely normal.
His turn for panic would be reserved for the following morning.
