Work Text:
What they had was probably not conventional, but it worked for them. Dean and Sam were brothers and Jimmy and Cas were twins. It isn’t that hard to believe siblings would date another pair of siblings, but it was a little more than that. They were all part of the same coven and lived together in the mountains where winters got really cold and sometimes they had to cuddle together for warmth. This wasn’t one of those times, but that was how it started.
Both sets of siblings had grown up extremely close. Dean and Sam had lost their parents when they were young. Dean was only fourteen when he took his brother and left yet another foster home. People didn’t understand the magic they carried in their blood and it usually ended in them leaving because they were afraid of the boys. Finally Dean had enough of Sam hating himself for something he had no control over. He decided they could live on their own, away from anyone who would cause them to hate themselves anymore than they already did.
That’s exactly what they did, for 9 years. Dean would go into town to get any supplies they needed and couldn’t get from their surroundings, but most things they were able to produce or collect. The fact that they had magic in them didn’t hurt either. Sam was able to grow plants where they really shouldn’t be growing and Dean’s way with the animals was something no one had been able to understand. There was a mutual respect for nature and all things who were allowed to live in it. Their lives were pretty simple for a long time. That changed one night when someone came banging on their door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jimmy and Cas had been run from their home one night when their very religious parents had caught them lying together. It had been innocent on that occasion, but knowing there were other times when it wasn’t they didn’t argue. They had so many secrets they were hiding from their parents out of fear, not only of rejection but also that they would physically hurt them. A friend of theirs had been taken away and they were never told where, but when he came back he had bruises and cuts and he refused to even be around the boys because they were wrong.
At almost 18 they didn’t want to deal with the police trying to put them somewhere or take them back to the parents who treated them like they were the devil, so they took to the woods. The two had been dabbling in magic and were sure they could make it on their own. They hadn’t been born witches, but had been introduced to it when they were really young by another friend, one who had been better at keeping things from her parents. She taught them the basics, how to be respectful of the craft and that nature would help provide if you asked nicely and respected her.
At least, that was what they had taken from her. She had begun teaching them a few spells and they were quick learners. However, that did not help protect them from the things other men had placed in the woods. There was a wire trap of some kind that wove between a couple of trees. It had been hidden by the leaves and foliage and when Jimmy had tripped over a stick a little further up the path causing him to land on it and slice his side open.
The tiny amount of healing Cas had learned wasn’t able to help them. He didn’t know what herbs to use and he wasn’t sure what to say because he had never been so scared in his life. Trying to carry his brother's weight as he helped him along the narrow path he saw a cabin. It appeared to be made from things around the forest. There was living vegetation making up parts of it. That was all He had been able to notice before setting his brother on the ground beside the door and knocking loudly. He needed help with Jimmy and maybe someone here could provide that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That was in the beginning. Cas and Jimmy had not only found the help they needed to mend Jimmy’s wound, but also a home with the two men who lived inside. Sam had answered the door prepared to deal with a threat which had found him and Dean, but the pleas of the boy, who was close to the same age as him, had stopped him short. He was better at healing than Dean so he was the one who took care of Jimmy. They bonded during that time and became really close.
Dean and Cas had spent several hours while Sam worked on Jimmy, commiserating about their brothers. It was strange at first, but surprisingly the twins were different enough they never had a problem knowing which one belonged to who.
Other people may have reacted badly to catching the twins kissing behind the cabin, but the Winchesters had always been a little different from other siblings. They were always too close, too dependent on each other. The main difference between the pairs of siblings was simply Dean’s willpower, and their age difference. By the time Sam was catching his attention in a more than brotherly way, Dean was old enough that he felt wrong for even having these thoughts let alone acting on them. Sam was older now though and it didn’t seem quite as wrong as it once did, especially as they stood watching the twins kiss.
About a week later, a storm moved in. This storm wasn’t one they had anticipated. If they had been given enough notice, they could have weather proofed the cabin, not only the old fashioned way but the magical way too. Learning the other boys were witches as well made them all feel a little more free to be their true selves, both in their magic and their love. That’s why they were comfortable enough to agree with all four sleeping together to stay warm.
It was cold, so cold that the cabin’s fireplace was having trouble keeping it warm. The small living room wasn’t big enough to fit two beds in, so they made a pallet on the floor using pillows and blankets from both couples' rooms. They had started out innocently enough. Each couple lay with their respective partners, but some time during the night they must have gotten cold. Boundaries didn’t mean anything when you were trying to stay warm.
Waking up in the morning, they were all warm and cozy snuggled into a cuddle pile. Dean wouldn’t admit it out loud, but seeing Sam in between Cas and Jimmy was probably the hottest thing he could think of. Well, he thought it was until the others began to stir and wake up, sliding hands exploring one another. He had been wanting Sam too long and the way the others were looking at him while touching each other meant he would finally be getting his chance. The fact that it was something they shouldn’t be doing only made it hotter. Their coven seemed to be a walking taboo anyway, why not get off on it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now they didn’t need a freak storm as an excuse to cuddle up together in the big bed they had put in Dean and Cas’s room, because it was bigger. It was something they did quite often. They spent long hours exploring each other and what they liked. Dean’s favorite thing was watching Sam with the twins. Maybe it was a voyeurism thing or a taboo thing, he couldn’t be completely sure, but he thought maybe it was something else.
Although, it didn’t matter how many times he watched the other three, or how many times they included him in their special time, it never failed to turn him on seeing his coven mates being sweet and affectionate towards each other. He figured it was some kind of a protection thing. Seeing them all safe, warm and happy made him feel good and that translated into him getting excited. Something probably got crossed in his mind when he was younger, but being the protector was just something that was hard wired into him. He didn’t think anything was wrong with him, he simply loved them and that love was a physical thing as well as emotional.
He was glad that he, Sam and the twins didn’t pay any attention to what other people thought about them. If they did, they would probably worry more about the things they enjoyed. As it is, none of them could care less and did whatever made them happy. It wasn’t like they were hurting anyone. Their coven, living in a little cabin in the middle of the woods, all contributing to what their family needed. It was the best any of their lives had ever been and they wouldn’t change a thing.
