Chapter 1
The minute McGonagall, Dumbledore, and Ariana stepped into the Wizardry entrance of the airport, they were bombarded by the press. Even in the States, the Dumbledore’s were famous. Mainly Albus Dumbledore.
“Albus Dumbledore, what brings you to the states?” A reporter asked.
“We are here to visit some members of my family.” McGonagall said, smiling.
“And who is this young lady with y’all?” Another reporter asked. She had a southern twang.
“My name is Ariana Dumbledore.” Ariana said, smiling.
“How old are you honey?” The southern reporter asked.
“Thirteen.”
Ariana gripped her mother’s hand as they moved through the crowd to the baggage claim. Her father’s words blaring in her head.
“Stay in the middle of your mother and I. Hold your mother’s hand if you have to. Just stay close to us.”
It was like Dumbledore knew that they would be bombarded by the press. He must’ve not wanted Ariana to get lost in the crowds. Since her birth, he had always been over protective of her. He made sure she stayed within sight of him or McGonagall at all times. It only changed when she began school at Hogwarts. She could hang out with the other Gryffindors, but she still had to stay within sight of the other teachers or at least in the common room.
The Wizarding Law Enforcement along with the airport’s security moved the press away so they could get to their bags. Ariana had never been happier to see her trunk. She had a backpack with Leo the Lion, a few snacks, and her books, but her trunk had her clothes with some more books.
Once they gathered their stuff, Dumbledore took out his wand to use on it. It was sent to the house they were staying in.
“I’m tired.” Ariana said, yawning.
“How are you tired? You were using your mother’s shoulder as a pillow for most of the flight.” Dumbledore said, teasingly.
“I thought my arm was going to fall off at one point.” McGonagall said, chuckling.
Ariana stood by a massive window while Dumbledore used the bathroom. She could see the other planes with witches and wizards pulling into their gates. Usually she either used a broom or Apparated with her father to get somewhere. She’d never been on a plane.
“This is wicked, isn’t it Leo?” Ariana asked quietly. Leo the Lion was in her arms.
“Hello, I saw you get off the plane. My name is Kithar.” A boy about her age said. He held out a hand. He had brown hair cut super short and brown eyes.
“Ariana, Ariana Dumbledore.” Ariana said, taking his hand.
“Where are you all from?” Kithar asked.
“The Highlands, Scotland.” Ariana said.
“I’ve never been.” Kithar shrugged.
Ariana shrugged. “I’ve never been to the states. I mainly just stay in the highlands or I go to London.”
“Ariana! Time to go dear!” McGonagall called to her.
“Excuse me. It was nice meeting you.” Ariana said. She then went to her mother and father who were waiting for her.
Ariana hid behind her father when they entered the house of McGonagall’s great-nephew. A black and white dog ran up to them.
“It’s alright, dear. It’s just a dog.” McGonagall said, calmly.
Chris, McGonagall’s great-nephew, held the dog back by the collar. He had similar black hair and green eyes as McGonagall and Ariana. “I’m sorry, I should’ve put him outside before you showed up, Aunt Minnie.”
“It’s alright. Ariana hasn’t seen a dog with one head before.” McGonagall said, smiling.
Chris seemed surprised to hear that. Then again he heard the many stories of how his Aunt was able to do magic.
“We have you in the upstairs bedroom.” Chris said, changing the subject. He called for his eldest son, Colin, to take the dog outside while he showed them to their room. Colin was a red headed boy with green eyes.
The room was smaller than they're used to. It had a bed, a closet, a dresser, and two side tables. Dumbledore went up to the windows to open the curtains. Sun began to shine through.
“We can put Ariana downstairs in the living room. The couch folds out into a bed.” Chris said.
Dumbledore took into the count the look of terror on his daughter’s face. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders to calm her.
“She can sleep with us. The bed seems pretty big enough.” Dumbledore said.
“Surely a 13 year old wouldn’t want to sleep with her parents.” Chris said.
“It wouldn’t be the first time, Chris.” McGonagall said as she used her wand to begin unpacking their things.
“Magic seems to make everything easier.” Chris said, amazed.
“My apologies Chris. I forgot you aren’t able to do magic.” McGonagall said.
“Oh it’s alright, Aunt Minnie.” Chris then turned to leave. “I will be downstairs getting dinner ready. We are having an American delicacy. Burgers!”
“No cheese on mine. Please.” Dumbledore said.
Chris nodded his head before shutting the door. McGonagall finished unpacking. They were spending all Summer in the states. It was McGonagall’s idea since she heard Ariana talking with the other Gryffindors about how she doesn’t get to leave Hogwarts like the other kids do.
