“Renjun! Are you free today? I’m planning to go to a cafe with Mark to talk about our assignment.” Jeno spoke as soon as the students started to leave the classroom. Renjun closed his textbook and replied, “Unfortunately no. I got some things that I need to do in the student council.” His friend pouted and sat next to him.
“You must’ve been pretty busy lately. A bunch of troublemakers as usual?” Jeno questioned, resting his hand on his cheek. The younger sighed while placing his things in his backpack. “There were a lot, I just didn’t expect this week to have a huge number of students breaking the rules. I almost forgot to do my history assignment after filing the reports for the office.” Renjun answered, stretching in his seat.
As Renjun got up, his phone went off. He grabbed his phone and instantly smiled. "Oh~ Who is that? Did you finally get a lover?" Jeno teased, poking at Renjun's cheek.
The other rolled his eyes and scoffed, "Oh please. As if someone will be interested in me."
Jeno pouted and replied, "Now come on, anyone would love you Injunnie. Don't underestimate your charms." His eye smile made Renjun feel a little better. He patted his friend's back and said, "Thanks for the reassurance, Jeno. Seriously, Mark is lucky to have you as his boyfriend."
The mention of Mark’s name made Jeno blush in embarrassment. "Um, y -yeah. Yeah and I'm pretty lucky to have him too." Jeno stuttered and smiled shyly.
Renjun looked at his watch then back at his friend. "Sorry but listen, I gotta go. You go have fun with your boyfriend while I go do my own thing." He told his friend, leaving the classroom with Jeno flustered.
As Renjun made his way towards the school's exit, he walked to a street where numerous houses seemed to be filled with different banters and laughter from teenagers.
He clenched his backpack as he finally arrived at a beige colored house. He pressed the doorbell and waited for a response.
After a few minutes, the door slightly opened and Renjun's cheeks immediately turned into a shade of pink.
"Yangyang, it's good to see you're doing well." He started, fixing his glasses. The other smiled and replied, "It's great to see you too, Huang Renjun."
Yangyang invited Renjun inside as he closed the front door and made his way to the kitchen, Renjun sat on the couch and looked around.
There were some trophies and medals displayed on the shelves, a family photo was placed on the right side of the shelf, along with a graduation photo of someone.
"I hope you don't mind that I tidied up the place a lot. I don't think you would like to see what it actually looked like." Yangyang jokes, giving Renjun a glass of iced tea.
Renjun shook his head and replied, "Not at all. Honestly, I didn't think you would be this determined to clean your house when you forgot to clean our classroom back then."
When he saw Yangyang's face, Renjun laughed at his friend's pouty expression. "Renjun~ That was one time and I'm sorry. I was busy with hockey practice." Yangyang whined as Renjun nudged his arm.
Renjun smiled a bit and turned back to look at the graduation photo on the shelf. "I'm a bit curious, is that your older brother's photo right next to your family photo?" He asked as he drank from his glass.
Yangyang nodded and scoffed, "Yep, that's my brother Kun. He just graduated college and got his degree. If I remember right, he's working as a producer now."
Yangyang looked at the photo and sighed, "I do miss him a lot though. He tries his best to make time for me and our parents, it must be pretty tough for him to work far away from us."
Renjun frowned at his friend and patted his back.
"Don't worry about him, I know he's a great brother and besides, he'll come back home in no time." He reassured him with a smile.
Yangyang looked at Renjun and felt at ease. "Do you think so, Renjun?" He questioned, still feeling worried.
Renjun nodded, the other felt his heart skip a beat as Renjun held his hand to comfort him. Yangyang wishes he could kiss him now, but he hesitated and thanked Renjun instead.
"Oh, by the way, how are things in the student council?" He questioned, pouring some iced tea on his glass.
Renjun hummed and answered, "It was chaotic, a lot of students breaking the rules and such. We were occupied halfway through the day."
As Renjun rambled on about his day, Yangyang listened attentively. He was entranced by Renjun's voice and the way his lips had a shade of pink lip balm on it;
Yangyang blushed slightly when Renjun glanced at him. "Sorry, did I talk too much? I tend to do that nowadays…" Renjun stated, rubbing his neck in embarrassment. Yangyang smiled fondly and shook his head. “It’s fine, I love hearing your voice.” He spoke. Yangyang then realized what he said and blushed. “I mean- I really love hearing about your day, although I love your voice the most- I - I mean um…” He panicked, shaking his hands quickly.
Renjun, on the other hand, was startled at Yangyang’s sudden compliment and panicked as well. “Ah it’s alright, Yangyang. I really love your voice too, it’s my favorite thing about you.” He confessed, looking at his feet. Yangyang stopped talking to process what Renjun said, his face still flushed from his embarrassing moment.
“He likes my voice, just as much as I like his?” He thought, biting his lips slightly. He suddenly cupped Renjun’s cheeks and gave him a quick kiss on his lips.
Yangyang then stared at Renjun, his caramel colored eyes melting his heart more. “Renjun- You might think I’m messing around right now, but believe me when I say this.”
He took a deep breath and confessed, “I love you, Huang Renjun. I’ve loved you since the day we met back in Junior HIgh. Your love for art and poetry always made me smile, your beautiful voice everytime you sing always left me in a trance; It’s almost as if I’m dreaming. And the way you are so fond of every stray cat you encounter, you took the time to play with them and give them snacks. You have such a kind heart and a beautiful soul.”
As soon as Yangyang finished, he could see Renjun’s eyes shining. “O - Oh no! Sorry, I didn’t mean to make you cry, Renjun.” He stuttered, grabbing a tissue and wiping his friend’s tears. Renjun held both of Yangyang’s hands and looked into his eyes.
“Do you really mean all of that?” He whispered. His soft voice and his glazed eyes nearly broke Yangyang’s heart. “I do, every single word, Huang.” He replied, caressing his cheek. Renjun smiled a little and laughed. The thoughts in his head disappeared when he heard Yangyang’s confession.
“Then, if you’re not lying…” Renjun started. He leaned closer to Yangyang, his nose almost touching his friend’s. “I want you to kiss me, like you really mean it.”
And Yangyang did just that; He kissed him gently, the taste of strawberry made Yangyang smile more. Renjun wrapped his arms around Yangyang’s neck as they both lied down on the couch, he kisses Yangyang’s neck and spoke, “God, you honestly have no idea how long I waited for this.”
Yangyang looked back at him and smirked, “I’m sorry I kept you waiting then. Do you think I was that bold to confess to you before?” Renjun playfully punched Yangyang’s arms and sassed, “At least you’re not like Jeno, he couldn’t even tell Mark he loved him the moment they both confessed.”
They both laughed and looked back at each other, Renjun rested his head on Yangyang’s chest and listened to his heartbeat.
It made him feel safe as his eyes started to close slowly. “Stay with me for the night, Renjun. I’ll bring you back home safely tomorrow morning, okay?” Yangyang mumbled, stroking the other’s head. Renjun yawned and nodded, as he drifted to sleep with his new boyfriend beside him.
