Work Text:

Well, today was already interesting when Pepa Madrigal woke up. The very first thing that she heard was her husband, Félix, quietly groaning and making his way to the bathroom. Rubbing her eyes and putting on a dressing gown, she followed him.

"Félix mi amor, are you feeling alright?" She asked, worry filling her voice as she heard... vomiting noises. Well, that was the best way to describe the noises. Walking towards her husband, who was currently throwing up in the toilet, she gently rubbed his back a little to help, a little worried as he eventually stopped throwing up and wiped the vomit off his mouth. Pepa gently kissed him on the forehead.

"I must've eaten something weird or Julieta messed up somehow." Félix laughed, hugging his wife. Pepa didn't really smile back, "I'll tell my mama you're unwell. And Julieta." She spoke, standing up and heading down Casita's stairs as she searched for her mother and triplet sister. She immediately went into the kitchen where the previously mentioned sister was, making huevos pericos and arepas for breakfast for the family.

"Julieta?" Pepa called out as her sister turned towards her. "Felix is sick."

"I'm making breakfast right now. Bring him down and he'll feel better soo- Dios mios Agustin." Julieta began to say until she noticed her own husband walk into the kitchen, stung head to toe by bees. She groaned before motioning Pepa towards her. "I'm nearly done, so get mama, your husband and the kids ready for breakfast."

"Alright. Where are your two?" Pepa asked, before presuming Isabela would be in her room and Luisa in the nursery. She didn't doubt that Dolores, her own daughter, was in her room as she headed upstairs again, getting her nieces out and bringing them downstairs before looking for her daughter.

"Dolores? Are you there?" Pepa called out as she walked into her daughter's room, a bright blue light shining on the inside as she walked around the giant sensory room space. Eventually a tiny head popped out of a ball pit, giggling. "I'm here mami!" She smiled as the weather woman sighed in relief, picking up her daughter and giving her a cuddle. "It's breakfast time, amor."

"Okay mami!" Dolores smiled, leaning her head against her mom as Pepa brought her downstairs into the outside. The table set up as the family sat down as Pepa took her seat next to Félix.

"Are you feeling any better?" Pepa whispered, but he shook his head. Even after he finished his breakfast, sipping hot chocolate. Despite a few minutes of no vomiting, he immediately excused himself in a VERY unusually quiet voice and slipped off into the house straight away.

"I guess he's really ill or I'm losing my gift." Julieta said in worry.

Alma glared at the direction Felix went off in for a few seconds, giving a dazed look of bewilderment before the rest of the family just finished their food. "Our community is counting on us, la familia Madrigal!"

The rest of the family, including Pepa herself, stood up as she spoke, repeating the final sentence before heading off to do some weather related agricultural chores for the day, still worried about Félix.

------

"Dolores. Keep an eye on your father." Julieta told her niece, as the young girl covered her ears a little, before Julieta lowered her voice.

"Sorry, but please keep an eye on your father. I don't know what he has but if my magic can heal him, I don't know what will. You don't have anything to do, please... if there's any emergencies, talk to Agustin." She whispered, Dolores nodded as she skipped up to her parent's room. Opening the door which had her mama on it, she smiled as she entered the cloudy room. The floor was mainly clouds, like the sky, which changed based on her mama's mood .Giggling, she jumped up to the bed, where her papa was now resting on as she sat next to him.

"Hola papi!" She smiled, hugging him tightly as her father hugged her back, gently kissing her on the forehead, causing her to giggle slightly.

"Tia Julieta told me you were sick, is everything okay?" Dolores asked, hearing a strange "thump thump thump" from somewhere, but trying to ignore it. Maybe it was just her father's heartbeat. That's how heartbeats usually went.

"Mmm... I think so, mi amor. Don't worry about me." Félix smiled at his daughter, Dolores hugging him tightly and checking his forehead, "You don't feel hot." She shook her head, "Maybe you aren't really sick?"

Feeling her papa wrapping his arms around her, holding her in his arms as her head rested on his chest for a hug, he shook his head. "No no, I'm not pretending. I am really sick. But I don't think it's a fever." Félix smiled, kissing Dolores on the head.

"Then what could it be?" Dolores asked, hearing the "thump thump thump"- no- there were TWO- wait no- THREE of them- three heartbeats! Well, she could hear her fathers since her head was against his chest, and she could easily hear her own, but she heard another one too. But taking a glance around the room, there wasn't anyone else.

Where could the other heartbeat be coming from?

After one more quick scan of the room, Dolores confirmed to herself that there was no one else in the room. Looking up at her papa, he looked at her in confusion.

"What are you looking for?" Félix kindly asked, stroking her hair.

"I hear another heartbeat." Dolores whispered, "I hear yours, mine and someone else's! But that doesn't make sense, no one else is in the room...."

She looked up at Félix, who seemed just as bewildered as his daughter, "Are you sure it's coming from here?" He asked.

"Yes! Let me just..." She closed her eyes and tried to focus on the sound, before she looked at Félix again.

"It's coming from you! You have two heartbeats! Is that possible?" She exasperated.

Looking up at him, she watched his expression go blank for a few seconds, probably trying to comprehend what she just said, until he finally looked up, alert.

"...You said there's another heartbeat coming from me?" Félix asked Dolores, who nodded as she kneeled down and pressed her ear against his lower stomach. "Right there! That's where it's coming from!"

A few seconds of silence, the young girl looked up at her dad, who seemed to be... happy? Well, that was a watered down version of his expression. VERY happy.

"Amor, go get your mami." He smiled, kissing her on the forehead. "I need to tell her about this."

-------

Waiting in his + his wife's room, Félix sat up in the bed until he watched the door open. His little girl bringing Pepa, his wife, into the room. He stepped back as he heard the thunder from where he was, sensing his wife was pissed off.

"Mi vida, are you okay?" He asked as Pepa sat on their bed, Dolores popping up onto the end of it.

"No! I'm not! Some dickhead kept laughing at me for tripping and now I'm pissed! Expect nothing but thunderstorms tonight!" She groaned, rolling her eyes.

Félix smiled at her softly, cupping her face and gently kissing her on the cheek. "I am so sorry amor, but you're here now. Are you feeling hurt?"

After some deep breaths and a few mutterings of "clear skies", Pepa turned to her husband. "Yeah, I'm fine. Why did you ask Dolores to bring me here?"

Félix struggled to contain his excitement, looking at her star struck. "Dolores told me something that explains why I was sick today!"

He motioned Dolores over as she crawled over, wrapping his arm around her. "Tell mami what you told me!"

"There's a heartbeat in his stomach?" She asked, confused.

Taking a look at Pepa, she seemed confused, and he couldn't blame her. Heartbeat in his stomach? What could that mean?

So he decided to actually tell her.

"Pepa? Dolores?"

"Yes mi amor?"

"Yes papi?"

"I'm pregnant."

Almost immediately, Félix watched as the room instantly got lit with rainbows. Way more than usual as his wife covered her mouth in shock, tearing up before hugging him tightly. Félix laughed a little as he hugged her back. He and Pepa took a glance at the already existing child of theirs, who seemed confused.

"Pregnant?"

"It means in a few months, you are going to have a baby brother or sister." Félix explained, "Like Luisa is the baby sister to Isabela."

This caused the little girl to cheer, joining her parents in the hug. Félix held onto his daughter while Pepa had already started happy crying, rain now falling down but also with a lot of sunlight and rainbows.

"My baby!" She smiled, hugging him tightly as she cried happily into his shoulder. Dolores trying to listen in on the baby's heartbeat.

Looks like another Madrigal kid is coming soon.
