Uncomfortable stares were shared around the large round table as the various parties gathered in the main hall to commence the Christmas Day Feast. Many attending had held grudges against other attendees present, some in the case of demons lasting over many centuries. Yet the theme of the party this year was forgiveness, the letting go of hatred and forgiving of grievances over the feasting of a potluck dinner contributed by every guest present.
"Ladies and Gentleman and everyone in between, Demons and Humans and everyone in between, come and let us each present our names and our dishes, as we come together in these times of festivities to forgive one another for wrongs and slights, to forge ahead into the New Year with our hearts glowing as warm as the embers within our hearths," declared Miroku as he held his goblet up high, before settling onto his honorary hosting throne that went to whoever agreed to host Christmas Dinner that particular year.
Standing then, Miroku and Sango as hosts presented their dish(es), sliding onto the large Lazy Susan an oblong server platter containing the years Turkey and a generous amount of stuffing spilling out around it.
"May the Takanami Clan present the annual Christmas Turkey with Stuffing, the latter of which contains a few special ingredients that will cause your mouth to glow like light being drawn into a void," stated Sango as Miroku held his goblet high again.
Next came the Taisho Clan, with Sesshomaru and Kagome presenting a tremendous tray heaped to the brim with three distinct varieties of Mashed Potatoes.
"May the Taisho Clan present Potatoes Perfection, three kinds of Mashed Potatoes including Mashed Sweet Potatoes, Garlic Herb Potatoes, and Butter Potatoes. These will be sure to Purify your soul with their deliciousness," presented Kagome with Sesshomaru wearing his usual stoic and expressionless mask.
Next everyone looked expectantly to the pairing that no one could ever have anticipated as Inuyasha, and Koga stood to present their dish.
"From the Okita Clan we bring you Vegetable Stew made with Liver Stock that will leave your taste buds in paradise," said Koga as the two of them hoisted their campfire cauldron onto the Susan before taking a polite bow.
After that came the Mikada Clan with the only non-romantic couple present as sisters Kikyo and Kaede stood to present their food.
"From the Mikada Clan comes my sister's signature Beef Stew, with my adding of Spiced Eggnog that'll soothe even the spirits of the dead," announced Kikyo as they added another campfire pot and a punch bowl to the mix.
More than a few glares were at hand as by far the most notorious couple of the evening stood, the slithering of tentacles on the stone floor being the only noise in the suddenly quiet room before one member of the Kumoru Clan began speaking.
"The Kumoru Clan brings their Customary Deep-Fried Tentacles, served with my special Miasma Chili Dipping Sauce that will positively melt your mouths," said Naraku as he laid his platter on the table.
"My dear, you mean melt in your mouth," Tsubaki corrected with a sly side smile.
"Of course, I meant that dearest," Naraku replied with a conspiratorial wink in return.
And so, it went with the rest of the table presenting far more appetizing dishes, as Shippo and Soten of the Kitsanda Clan presented their Fried Mushrooms served with Boom Boom Sauce, Bankotsu and Jakotsu of the Seburan Clan their Seven Slices of Heaven Cheesecake, and many more before the expansive Susan was filled to the brim with dishes.
"Now friends and enemies and everyone in between, although we forgive this day we shall not forget and while we may remain neighbors and nemesis alike after the day is done, it is time to put past wrongs to rest and to move forward, with this feast assembled by all I say to thee, put your minds to rest and your hearts at ease, as we join together to eat I say to one and all, Merry Christmas," announced Miroku as he raised his goblet once more.
A chorus rang through the halls as the others replied before digging into the offerings with great gusto.
"Merry Christmas!!!"
