Chapter Text
It was an odd thing. Love. You had fallen in love before. Many times, in fact you found yourself falling in love almost everyday. Not with one gender, not with one person, not because of people who you deemed 'hot' or 'fit'... But with the little things. The beauty of everything and sometimes you found it hard to distinguish love for something more or something less but its definition to you - however blurred it may have become - you wouldn't want anyone to tell you differently because at least then you can say you have achieved the feeling and acceptance of love... No matter how wrongly you had been using the term.
Then, one day, a fateful day, you met someone masked by a wall. And you fell in love again... except when you truly fell, you knew it was real, you knew it was different because it took time and it took getting to know the being and it took more than just interest and that other meaning of love you seemed so intent on being the one and only meaning for the term.
"Hello? Who's there?" You asked when you heard shuffling behind a wall and then a loud crash of a bin-lid against the concreted floors.
"Oh, 'ello! Sorry, didn't mean'a scare ya... If... I did." The person answered from behind the wall.
"Oh, it's okay, I thought you were a fox or something... I've always wanted to meet a fox." You trailed off.
"A fox, huh? They're nice, yeah. You know, I've met big foxes before, ones with intellect and individual thought. Very interesting creatures really." The person trailed off in thought, he sounded as if he were dreaming, looking into the sky and pondering his imaginative bounds.
"I would love to meet them some day, perhaps you could give them my number." You chuckled at the thought of giving a fox your number.
"As long as you aren't one of those 'bestialities', I could sure as hell do that, for ya" The person sounded happy to do so, a bit suspicious but then quickly turning jovial and fun.
"Say, what's your name?" You asked the person while you leant your back against the wall and slowly slouched downwards to sit on the floor.
Unknowingly, he too followed the action and answered, "I'm The Doctor. What's your name?"
"The Doctor? More of a title than a name, really... Well, if we're going by titles, I'm The Girl Behind The Wall." You answered rather facetiously.
"Hm, it is too a name! It's my name, in fact. Well, nice to meet you, Girl Behind The Wall." The person, now given the title of the Doctor, continues, "So, what are you doing out here on such a mizzly morning?"
"Could ask you the same."
"Well, I asked you first."
"And I asked you second."
"Correct."
"Fine... Well, I came out to take some pictures of the dewy conkers... You know, just cuz the weather is classed as 'miserable' doesn't mean it isn't still beautiful." You say, almost whispering by the end of your answer.
"Girl Behind The Wall, have you ever been in love?" The Doctor's question caught you off-guard.
"W-what?" You stuttered, blinking blankly.
"...Have you ever been in love?" The man repeated, now with more emohasis.
"Well... Yes. Have you?"
"...Yeah, I think so. It's hard to know for certain..."
"I know what you mean, there, buddy..." You respond humourously with a short chuckle to cover up your sadness.
"You do? Do you find it difficult to know as well?"
"I think I've been in love in the wrong ways..."
"What do you mean?"
"Well... It's like I'm in love with the simplest of things... The rain on the glass, the rainbow effect in petrol spilt in the road... The little details to a watercolour sky, the dents deer have made in the bark of trees... The buttons and hook-n-loop designs in my shoes and bed socks. The rareness and beauty of even existing."
The Doctor paused, tears were in his eyes, he hadn't listened to such poetic elegance... It had been such a long while since he had taken the time to listen to someone, to speak with someone liek this.
"It truly is rare and beautiful that we can exist in such a vast universe, filled with buzzing life and its as if it were made to be seen... Made to be seen by someone... Otherwise it's just going to waste- Oh, I'm going off on a tangent now... I'm sorry..."
"You should never be sorry for being in love with Life itself." The Doctor answered you, he sniffled and rubbed his hand to his nose as he felt his tears cascade onto his hand and drip down to the earth. You stood slightly from your seated position and held a hand to the wall in an attempt of distanced comfort. "Most people... You know... Most people cling to life with white knuckles and red eyes... But you're different, Girl Behind The Wall... You're admiring everything life was given to, that life has been poured into, designed so beautifully and you see that beauty. You aren't just living. You're in love with living and that is so important. It has been my pleasure talking to you... But I can't stay anymore, I have to go back to blue box and sail away... to some unknown crevice in the universe.. You have given me inspiration to carry on, to keep fighting for everything and everyone in this universe... Because I want you to see its beauty for longer. For so many more of your undying years."
"Wait, don't leave me here, please... I want to meet you..."
"All in good time, I'm sure we'll meet again." The Doctor said, he was scared of letting anyone close to him, but he had thought of taking you with him to the TARDIS but he didn't know whether you were ready or not... You still seemed so hooked on the beauty of your planet, let alone go skipping to millions of miles away. "I'll see you again, Y/N."
"Yeah, that's what they all say. Goodbye, Doctor..."
The Doctor walked away when you suddenly shouted, "Hang on, how did you know my name-" and he turned around and saw you, climbing up the wall.
"Hey, get down from there, you're gonna hurt yourself-"
And you did, you rolled over the wall and fell to the floor, he came running over worriedly.
"All good... Ooh look, ten pence!" You pick up a shining little coin and flick it up, The Doctor catches it and chuckles when you try to get it back.
"You humans and your money."
"Humans? What are you, some higher power?"
"Maybe."
"Tell me. EVERYTHING."
"Do you want to see all of time and space? Or would you rather stay here on this beautiful Earth?... Hypothetical question, of course."
"Hypothetical. Riiiight. Well, I'd want to go to see all time and space and document it, write stuff, draw stuff, take pictures... That sorta thang,"
"Perfect. Come with me, chop chop. If we make it to the TARDIS in about 3 minutes, we'll be in time for the Silver Supernova!" (not me advertising my dr who fanfic series, lol check it out its on my ao3)
"The silver what now?"
"She was a human then she wasn't and tehn she was a supernova and then she became a solar system. Wow, how they grow..."
"I have no idea what you are talking about, but okay!" You grin and the man pulls you into a blue box.
