Work Text:
"Thank you for choosing Heavenly Diner! Come back soon!" Crow waved as he watched the customer leave.
He sighed as he leaned against the counter, he never thought working at a diner would be so tiring. Don't get me wrong, he loves his job! However, there are days where he'd get the occasional rude customer. Or there would be an issue with getting someones order, and they'd get complaints. But other than that, this job wasn't bad.
It started one night when his mother, Heather, had shared her idea of opening a family diner to help donate money to orphanages and homeless shelters. Of course he and his siblings offered to help out.
"Watcha' thinking about?" Crow was knocked out of his thoughts by none other than his little sister, sparrow. Crow and sparrow share alot of shifts together, much to their enjoyment. Crow sighed, wiping his forehead and giving her a bright smile. "Nothing really, just thinking about today." He heard her laugh a bit, before resting her elbows on the counter.
"I honestly didn't think working at a restaurant would be this tiring, You know? Who knew getting orders on time was so stressful!" The smaller girl let out an exasperated sigh, letting her face fall into the counter. Crow chuckled.
"Well, atleast we don't have anymore custo-"
The bell to the diner doors ringed, cutting crow off. The two looked at the door to see a boy who looked to be around crow's age with two other kids, one being around 10 and the other around 7 or 8. The oldest of the group had fluffy white hair that almost covered his eyes, he wore a big black jacket that had short sleeves, with a long sleeved black and white stripped shirt underneath. He wore shorts that stopped just above his knees, black and white stripped socks with black shoes. His mouth and nose were covered by a black mask, and with his hair falling into his eyes you could barely see his violet purple eyes.
The next kid was a girl with light brown hair that faded into white. Her hair was pulled into a long ponytail, and she had yellow eyes. She wore goggles on her forehead and appeared to have ink smudges and a bandaid on her face. A white puffy collared shirt with a blue overall skirt and brown boots.
The youngest of the 3 looked almost the same as the oldest boy, except his eyes were green and he had freckles littered over his cheeks. He wore a black haori that faded into a white floral pattern with a white shirt underneath it. He wore black shorts like the older one and black shoes.
The oldest one looked around, awkwardly playing with his fingers. He then looked at crow and sparrow behind the counter, and was greeted with a smile.
"Hello there! Welcome to Heavens Diner! How can we help?" Sparrow jumped up and clasped her hands together. The boy seemed to fumble with his words before the brown haired girl spoke up. "Hi! We just wanted to know if you were open." The brown haired girl rested her hand on the older boys shoulder. "Oh- Its about twenty to thirty minutes before closing time so you're good! is that all?" Sparrow queried.
The brown haired girl, and the younger white haired boy fist bumped the air. "Great! we've been dying to try out the stuff here!" The girl ran up to the counter, her siblings following. Sparrow was about to speak when a much older boy emerged from the employees only room.
"Sparrow, it's your turn to help restock- oh hey!" The boy looked to the three customers and smiled brightly. Sparrow pouted. "You always come in at the worst timesss!" She lazily pushed past her older brother, dove, out of the way. Dove then looked at his little brother. "Have fun." Before following sparrow. Crow rolled his eyes, then returned his attention to the 3 infront of him. "Alrighty! So, what can i get you?" He beamed. "Do you have chocolate milk?" The oldest boy asked, he spoke very quietly, voice barely above a whisper. Crow hummed. "We don't have chocolate milk, but we do have chocolate milk shakes! Is that okay?" Crow grapped his notebook and bend. "I'll take it, what do you guys want?" The boy looked to the children beside him. "Nuggets!" The two of them said in unision, jumping in excitment. Crow hummed, writing it down. "Do you want fries and a drink with that? Or just the nuggets?" Crow titled his head. "Just the nuggets!" The brown haired girl said. "Alrighty, can i get your names?" "I'm nozumi! and this is my little brother damatsu, and my older brother kanako! he's reaaallyyy quiet, like really. Sometimes we forget he can talk." The brown haired girl, now known as nozumi said with a grin. Kanako firmly hit nozumi on the head, causing her to stick her tongue out at him. Crow smiled at the interaction, before a thought hit him. Had he heard those names before? They sounded oddly familiar... Oh well. He'll worry about that later. "Alright! Follow me!" Crow led the group to a table by the window. Once they were all seated, crow left to go put in the orders. After a few minutes, crow returned. "Sooo, bad news? Your order miightt have a little delay. So in the meantime, can i sit with you while you wait?" Crow gave a patient smile. Nozumi nodded vigorously, and damatsu shrugged. Kanako looked at crow for a split second before answering. "you can if you want.." the boy spoke softly. Crow took a seat infront of kanako next to damatsu. Nozumi appeared to be listening to some music, while damatsu stared out the window watching the cars pass by , and kanako appeared to be drawing. "Oh, you draw?" Crow asked, pointing at kanako's sketchbook. The white haired boy nodded, before hesitantly sliding the book over to crow. "oh- thank you." Crow looked through a couple of the pages. Most of drawings appeared to be sketches of plushies. The designs were interesting, they were cute, but a little creepy. But that added to what made them so interesting. There was one of a bag that looked like a teddy bear, the teddy bear had a little red bow and a zipper in place as it's belly. Crow looked up for a second and noticed that kanako had that same bag draped over his shoulders. His eyes sparkled with interest. "Did you make that bag?" Crow asked, sliding the book back over to kanako. Kanako nodded as he resumed to drawing. "That's super cool!" Crow smiled. Kanako blinked up at crow. "You...you really think so?" He asked. Crow nodded. "Of course! It's super cool you can make stuff like that!" Crow giggled. The black haired boy could swear that under that mask, the boy was smiling. "No ones ever told me that, they usually all say that i'm weird or creepy...it-it means alot, thank you." Kanako bowed his head. Crow was glad he could make someone feel that way. "You're very welcome, kanako." Crow and kanako ended up conversing quit a bit, about eachothers interests, the kinda music they liked, yada-yada, nozumi or damatsu would chime in some times. Soon, their order arrived. Kanako seemed very happy to have finallt gotten his chocolate milkshake, his legs swinging and giving a closed eyes smile. Kanako took his mask off in order to drink his milkshake, and crow noticed that like his younger brother. His face was also covered in freckles. Soon after, the 3 siblings paid for the meal and said their goodbyes. "Looks like you've found yourself a friend!" Crow turned his head to look behind him, he beamed at the sight of his mother. He instantly ran to her, and gave her a hug, startling her a bit. "Oh- aww, i missed you aswell my son." The women gave the boy a kiss on the forehead, ruffling his hair. Crow let go of his mom, smiling at her. "Just wanted to let you know that we're closing up now, dear." Heather said before going to call her other children. Crow sighed, before grabbing the cleaning supplies and starting to clean the tables and such. As he cleaned, he was deep in thought. Would he ever see kanako again? He hoped he would. He enjoyed kanako's company, though he was very quiet. He wished to see his siblings too! They seemed like fun people. He learned that nozumi actually built her own inventions, mostly little toys though. But they were still cool! Crow smiled to himself. For some reason, he really wanted to see kanako again.
