Hello! Author Here. I wanted to let you know that both y/n and Mirabel have been aged up and take place after Encanto. They are both 21 years old. Abuela still teases Mirabel about not having a gift and messing things up behind the family's back.
“Hola Y/n” Yells Mirabel as she sees you walking down the street. “Hello Mirabel,” you yell to her as she walks towards you,” How is the family doing?” “Ohh Y’know, same old, same old. Luisa still has her breakdown but she is getting better and not having them. Isabela has been nicer to me and even lets me hang out in her room from time to time. Camilo likes to play pranks on Antonio, making him think that he is trouble. Everyone else is still the same- I’m rambling aren't I?” She scratches her neck out of embarrassment. To be honest, you liked it when she rambled, it was cute.
“Y/n? Are you listening? Can you help me with something at the house?” This snapped you out of your trance. You hated going to that house, not because of how it looked or that anything bad had happened to you there. It is just that you are scared of Abuela and her demeanor. She was so authoritative and her glare- it feels like she is staring holes in your back. Not to mention the way she treated Mirabel. You knew about it- how Casita’s candle went out and the house broke down, how she ran away, how Abuela talked about Bruno. Although you know about it, none of the other family members know about it. They think it all stopped when they rebuilt the house, but it got worse because now she blames Mirabel for snooping in Bruno’s tower, stop Isabela from marrying Marino, Not to mention the fact that the rest of the family besides Antonio distance themselves a bit from her out of fear of being yelled at.
“Yeah I will help you on the condition that I don’t have to talk to your Abuela. She scares me, Mirabel, and I'm scared that if I do something wrong she will yell at me.” Her face melts when she hears this and you can see sadness in her eyes.”Ahh, mi amiga, you won’t have to worry about mi Abuela, I will make sure that If things go south, she won’t hurt you.” It hurts you to know that Mirabel is willing to get yelled at by Alma just so you don’t feel bad. It makes you wonder how she stays happy. You follow Mirabel to Casita to help her with whatever she needs. On the way to her room, you say hi to the family including Marino and Bruno. You always liked Bruno, and you call him Tio Bruno from time to time, even though you two are not related. You get to her room and sit on her bed waiting for her to explain why you are here.
“So, you are here to help me set up decorations for Uncle Bruno’s birthday party tomorrow. I have the banners, streamers, confetti, and table cloth all in my closet. I just needed someone to help me, and everyone else was too busy doing other things to help, so I chose you.” Your heart expands hearing that she came to YOU for help. You of all people, but no time to dwell on that now, you have a job to do and want to get out of the house fast. You are in the middle of getting the kitchen together when Abuela and Julieta walk in talking about something in Spanish. You freeze up and your heart is in your ears making it hard for you to hear Alma calling your names. “Y/n? What are you doing in Casita and why are all these streamers in the house?” “ Well, Since Bruno’s birthday is coming up, I thought that I should put up decorations in celebration. I stringed Mirabel in but if you don’t like them, I will take them down right away.”
She looked at you with a surprised expression. “No, You don’t need to take them down, I am just surprised that you came up with the idea and not Mirabel. She normally thinks of these things, but I am happy that you care about this much to do this. Me and Julieta will let you continue working and will stop by whenever you finish.” With that Julieta and Alma left the kitchen to leave you and Mirabel by yourselves. She walks over to you and puts her hand on your shoulders with a worried expression on her face. “Hey, why did you do that?” “Do what?” “Make it seem like it was your idea, you could clearly see that Abuela disliked the decorations, yet you choose to push the blame to yourself. She could have yelled at you or worse made you clean it up then kicked you out of the house. Please, you can’t do that.” Mirabel started to tear up in front of you and you pulled her into a hug. “ Hey Mira, I understand that you want to look out for me and keep me safe, but I can’t stand watching you get yelled at and treated differently. The others might not know about it but I do, and I hate it. It is not fair and the fact that you have to live with it makes me sad, but you can’t really leave, because they are family. So, it is my mission to make sure that you don’t get yelled at as much as you used to. Okay?” “Yeah.”
“Uhm Mirabel, I have good news and bad news. Good news is that I feel better getting that off my chest, but the bad news is that I think Dolores heard all of that because she Is looking at us with a sad and shocked expression.” Both of you turn to face a sad and distraught Dolores standing in the kitchen looking at both of you. “Hey Dolores,” Mirabel says in a concerned voice,” So I know that you heard all of that, but do you think that you could keep that a secret for me. I do not want Abuela to know about that. Okay?” “ Yes I can, But how come you never told any of us, or Julieta about this. We could help you or talk to Abuela.” She asks in a stern-worried tone. “Well I did not say anything because I became used to It and I started to ignore it. Like she would yell at me, and then I would go think about something else to make me feel better. It really is not that bad once you get used to it. Besides, no one would believe me If I went to them about it. They think that after Casita was rebuilt, everything was all nice and normal, so they forgot about it.”
