Work Text:
“Hi, I’m here with Mr. Ezra Bridger. Hero of Lothal. He just returned from exile with Mitch R. Naruto, better known as Grand Admiral Thrawn.” The interviewer took a sip of water and the nodded to their guest. “How are you doing today, Mr. Bridger?”
The crowd cheered. There was an uproar of joyous shouting and clapping as Ezra settled into his seat the stage. Lothal Today was the biggest talkshow in the galaxy, and Ezra was probably the biggest celebrity. It was a big, big day for culture.
“I’m doing pretty good,” Ezra grinned, that same smile that had won over the people of Lothal years back. “I mean, my day started with you guys picking me up in a luxury spidder. So, I can’t complain, y’know?”
“Totally,” said the interviewer. “Now, what is it like being back on Lothal?”
“Honestly, it’s given me the best of feelings, really.” Everyone cheered again. “This loving planet is my home,” he added, tears welling in his orbs as he gazed out at the crowd. “I’ve missed it so much. And not a thing has changed—besides the empire being gone, that is!”
“Speaking of the empire…what was it like spending so many years with Thrawn?”
“I…uh…sorry, got a little tongue tied there. I think that it was really difficult at first, but ssssoon enough, we became the best of friends, just like those losers on Twitter predicted. It was like being on a decade-long girls’ trip!”
On the screen behind Ezra and the interviewer, a slideshow of pictures began. The first photo was Ezra and Thrawn at Disney World. The second photo was them enjoying margaritas. Then, a photo came of them roasting marshmallows together.
“Ha, I love s’mores! Shoutout to A-luh-ondro for teaching me to make them. He’s this Rodian guy I met during my time away.”
The interviewer nodded. “So it seems like you and Thrawn became like brothers?”
“Uh, yeah,” Ezra laughed.
“Have you ever had a brother before? Or, a friend you considered a brother?”
“I guess, Zeb was kinda like that to me. Rest in peace, old man. I loved that Australian guy.” Ezra pointed to the sky with a sad look on his face. Then, he took his hands and made a heart.
“Just Zeb?” The interviewer asked. “Not even…me.”
*FLASHBACK*
Old Master Maul begged to Ezra, “ We can walk that path together ! As friends. As… brothers!”
*FLASHBACK ENDS*
The interviewer took of his mask and revealed his true self to Ezra.
“I told you I’d see you soon…apprentice.”
