Work Text:
"Lee Heeseung? Is Heeseung not around again? That kid, I just saw him this morning. Tsk. I thought he's done playing hooky."
Jake looked at the empty table next to him, shaking his head lightly from disappointment and his feet constantly tapping the ground due to worry.
Heeseung and him were supposed to meet at the rooftop to have lunch together, but unfortunately Heeseung didn't show up– he didn't even receive a message that he wouldn't be coming.
Jake's thoughts went from anger to worry in a span of an hour that he's waiting for Heeseung, eating the lunch that he prepared early morning angrily– "That bastard, did he just ditch me?", "He was the one who wants to have a lunch date here when it's freezing cold", "He better not show his face to me", "Ugh, where the hell is he?", "Is he okay?", "He never ditched any of our dates", "I just hope he's okay"
"... Jake will collect today's assignment tomorrow morning, late submissions will have 10pts deduction so make sure you'll pass it on time. Class Dismissed."
"Jake. Sim Jaeyun!"
Jake was startled by the sudden voice calling him- he was so distracted that he didn't even notice everyone had already left the room and he and his teacher are the only one present.
"You've been distracted during the lecture. Did you hear what I said before I dismissed the class?"
"No dad, sorry." Jake said, head lowered not meeting his father's gaze.
"Collect your classmates' assignments tomorrow morning, and make sure to place them at my desk after you take your lunch." His dad says, voice laced with disappointment.
"Yes sir, sorry"
"It's alright, just focus next time. Don't worry too much about Heeseung- he's probably hanging out again with his friends"
"H-huh?" Jake stuttered, confused why his father just said that.
"What? You think I wouldn't notice how close you are with Heeseung? How your eyes lit up when his name was mentioned? Please, don't get me started with you two holding hands under the table while I'm discussing in front. I'm not just your physics teacher Jae, I'm also your father. And you two aren't really good at hiding whatever you two have."
Mr. Sim says, shaking his head slightly in either from disappointment or amusement and Jake rather thinks it's the latter.
Jake doesn't know what to say, too stunned with the information his father just said. God, he made sure to be subtle about it.
"Let's talk more at home, hmm? Now, make sure to have a talk with Heeseung. He's a smart kid but if he keeps ditching his class he'll definitely have to retake it this summer. That kid only listens to you, so you better bring it up, alright?"
"Yes dad... Dad, Heeseung and I–"
"No need to explain now. Like what I said, we'll talk more at home. Oh, you better bring Heeseung home when both of you are ready. Your mom and I need to formally meet him."
Jake definitely didn't expect his dad to be this calm. Heeseung would show up at school with bruises on his face, hands wrecked and grades almost falling. Heeseung is someone a parent warns their kids about- someone you don't want to mess with; someone you should avoid- but all these warnings weren't enough to make Jake stay away from Heeseung, because he knew, he always knew that Heeseung isn't that kind of guy that they thought about.
It's way past Jake's bedtime, and Heeseung hasn't contacted him yet- no calls, messages or any presence of him, and Jake is too worried to sleep.
How can he sleep when his man won't- doesn't- can't contact him. So, here he is, hair all messed up from how many times his hands run through it, lips red and swollen from how many times he bit it due to frustration and worriness, and feet constantly tapping the ground due to anxiety.
Lee Heeseung, the only man who can make Jake this anxious, is throwing a rock at his bedroom's window.
Jake whipped his head from the sound. Quickly standing up and running towards the window.
"Hi, baby,"
Relief courses through Jake's body, knowing his boyfriend is alive and well and next comes worry- Heeseung looks like shit.
"Are you done staring at me, babe? Can you now please open the door? It's freezing cold out here." Heeseung says, emphasizing it by crossing his arms and slightly shivering.
Without even saying anything, Jake quickly made his way downstairs making sure to walk silently knowing his parents are just sleeping next door.
The cold breeze welcomed him when he opened the door for Heeseung, but the warm arms that were suddenly wrapped around him were enough to replace it.
Jake wrapped his arms around Heeseung, burying his face to the taller man's chest, inhaling the scent that he missed.
"Where were you, Hee?"
"I'm sorry. I'll explain, hmm? Let's get inside first, I want to hold you properly."
They both went upstairs after Jake carefully locked the door and went to the kitchen to get the first-aid kit- noticing the bruises on Heeseung's hands and face.
Jake led Heeseung towards his bed, urging him to sit down, but before he could tend to Heeseung's bruises he found himself sitting on Heeseung's lap- the taller man's arms wrapped around his waist and face buried on his neck.
"I saw them bullying Jungwon and Ni-ki at the parking lot again, they threatened the kids not to tell m-"
"You're smoking again?" Jake interrupted, pulling away from Heeseung's hold to look at his eyes. The parking lot used to be Heeseung and his friends' kind of hideout to smoke, and Heeseung promised him he'll stop smoking.
"No. I promise, baby. Jay, Hoon and Sunoo were there and you know how Jay knows how to cook right? God, this is embarrassing"
"You asked him to cook, didn't you?" Jake says, eyes hint with amusement and mischief.
"Well, I want to feed you a proper food not just ramyeon, I got no choice babe"
Jake touched Heeseung's reddened ears, rubbing it softly, "Alright alright, continue where you left off," Jake says, still rubbing Heeseung's ears.
"I-umm, where was I? Right! Y'know how those upper class men bullies Won and Riks right? I caught them earlier when I was on the way to Jay and Hoon. They threatened the kids not to tell me they were being bullied again, and then I saw Riks busted lips! Those mother fuckers had the guts to hurt Ni-ki... Jaeyun, Won was crying and he looked traumatized. He was clinging on Riki's shirt, that poor kid. I tried to tell the bullies off but those bastards punched me. I had no choice but to fight back. Good thing Jay, Hoon and Sunoo heard us, and we all headed to Jay's house after since Riks and Won didn't want to go back to school, and I kind of forgot to inform you since I know you'll be more worried knowing I got into a fight again... Look here!"
Heeseung slightly pushed Jake to show the bruises on his face and knuckles, "Baby, it still hurts here" Heeseung says, pointing at the bruises on the side of his lips and then to his cheekbones.
Jake lightly kisses Heeseung's freshly formed bruises.
"Does it still hurt?" Jake says, giggling and softly rubbing Heeseung's hair.
"Jaeyunie, it still hurts I think it needs more than just a kiss"
"Shush!" Jake elbowed Heeseung jokingly, cheeks slightly red from what Heeseung said.
"Heeseung-ah..."
"What is it? Is there something wrong? I swear baby, I didn't smoke nor fought with those guys just because." Heeseung says, a look of worry on his eyes hearing Jake's worried tone.
"Yes. No- I mean, yes I know, I believe you, you know I always do."
"Then why'd you look so worried? Is there something else you want to say?"
"Yes. Actually I had a talk with dad earlier after class. He knows about us, he actually saw us holding hands! Can you believe that? This is why I told you stop flirting with me during class, especially in dad's class, this is fucking embarrassing."
Heeseung give Jake an 'are you serious' look. "Babe, don't act like you don't blush when I get clingy with you." Heeseung says, laughing a bit when Jake gave him a glare and smacked his head.
"Shush! This is serious Hee," Jake stood up in front of Heeseung, hands on his hips.
"He wants me to bring you home-"
Heeseung was about to cut Jake off, probably to say something to tease him but before he could continue Jake spoke up.
"You better pick your words Lee Heeseung or I'll kick you out."
"Baby, I wasn't saying anything!"
"Yet! Anyway, dad wants me to bring you here to meet them. He definitely knew about us already but just waiting for me to tell him first. So, what I'm trying to say is if you want to meet them? Is it okay if you meet my parents?"
Jake removed his hands from his hips and started fiddling with his fingers from nervousness. At first he doesn't know why, it's been a while since they started dating and he knew since then that what he and Heeseung have is serious but he still can't help the bubbling nervousness deep within that maybe Heeseung isn't ready yet to meet his parents.
Jake's thoughts were interrupted when he felt the warm hands of Heeseung holding him.
"What you're thingking right now, stop it." Heeseung's hands went from holding Jake's hands to hugging Jake's waist, encircling it and looking up and softly smiling at him while his chin placed on Jake's stomach.
"I actually have been thinking about formally meeting your parents but you know your dad kind of scares me so I keep backing out so I'm glad your dad brought it up first. I'm still freaking nervous but I've been doing well at his class lately so maybe he won't be too harsh on me, don't you think baby?" Heeseung says pouting.
"Dad says you're smart," Jake says, grinning at Heeseung to raise his confidence a bit.
"Did he really?" Heeseung's arms tightened a bit, and smiled foolishly.
"Uhuh, so you better not skip any of his class again, I think dad already likes you and he'll like you better if you keep showing up in his class and listening properly. So, no flirting anymore."
"Can I flirt with you in a different class?"
"Lee Heeseung!"
"I'm kidding, just kidding!"
"Heeseung, I am serious."
"I know, I know, sorry. Just trying to lighten you up, I know I've been worrying you since earlier and then you're probably stressing about this also."
Jake sighs, Heeseung's right- he's been worrying about him and stressing about what his dad says and what will Heeseung reaction will be, and until now there's still a fear in the pit of his stomach and what if's running on his mind.
Heeseung stood up, his hands gently tucking Jake's hair behind his ear and putting his forehead on Jake's after.
"Jaeyun, when I said that I want to meet your parents earlier I really meant it. I know you well, baby, and I know you overthink a lot on our relationship but here's one thing that I guarantee you. I'm dating you with the thought of marrying you one day, that's how much I love you and how serious I am with our relationship,"
Heeseung gently rubbed Jake's back, noticing the tears falling on his eyes.
"And I know it's too early to said that, college is just around the corner, we still don't know if we'll be able to attend the same university, we'll meet countless of people, spend time away with each other, will fight a lot-" Jake giggled at that, knowing they'll be petty fighting a lot. "But I know damn well I'll do my best to keep you as long as you like; sharing ramyeon at night, studying together, travelling the world, planning our future. I know that you're the person I want to be with for as long as you like."
Jake's now a crying mess, his face buried on Heeseung's chest and hands covering his mouth to muffle his cries. Heeseung's confession overwhelmed him to the point of his legs giving out only for Heeseung to catch him.
"H-Heeseung, I-I don't know what to say."
Heeseung chuckled, lifting Jake and putting him on his bed to tuck him and gently positioning himself beside him- tucking Jake's head below his chin.
"You don't have to say anything because I know and I can feel it. Everyday, I felt it everyday even before we started to officially date. I know and I felt how loved I am."
"Heeseung, I love you."
Heeseung leaned down, heat rose from Jake's stomach to his chest. Jake parted his lips and felt Heeseung's warm lips the same time he felt fireworks erupting on his stomach.
Jake knew one thing for sure, he loves Heeseung and Heeseung loves him just as much and that's enough to get rid of the fear and worries about their future.
