FARKAS ULF
Captain of the Secret Police
LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!
My dearest Pip,
I write to you now in hopes that the last time we spoke will not be the last time we exchange words. I heard word from [BLANK] that you may have found a nest in Archenland, and that fills me with joy. What a wonderful spring you must be having there! Please do send [BLANK] if you can, or at the very least a description of your latest flights, for this lonely Faun misses that greenery so.
Forgive me, friend, for my words the last time we spoke. I hope we can remain in touch, that you might feel how your old Narnian forest-friends wish you all the joy and love you may find in that new land, and that we might see beyond these now- [BLANK] borders and [BLANK] towards a brighter future.
Much love,
Volus
…
Dear Pip,
I know this letter comes too soon after the first, but I wished to tell you of the news here. [BLANK] As a result, I’m afraid we may never hear from them again.
I do not know if word of this has reached anyone at Anvard. [BLANK]
Volus
…
Pip,
There is no respite to this winter. Even I have grown tired of hot tea and the beauty of snowfall; I long for the [BLANK] we used to have, back when you used to sit on my shoulder.
It has now been over a month since my first letter, and my confidence begins to falter. Perhaps it is the cold and how time seems to stretch on and on without [BLANK] , but I worry now that I irreparably hurt you on that day. Please believe me when I say I instantly regretted the words spoken in the heat of grief and fear. I hope you have not given up on me.
It is either that, or the Secret Police got its claws on these letters, and I am to be taken in soon. But I will run this risk gladly to keep our friendship alive, Pip. I will not let this [BLANK] rob me of another loved one.
With all my heart,
Volus
..
My dearest friend Pip,
It is becoming clear to me now that I will most likely not hear from you again. I can only guess at the reasons for this, and hope that they are not sinister. Our friends at [BLANK] can no longer be reached; I suppose the Secret Police has done what it does best: [BLANK] For now, I must ration my paper.
Please know that despite the harshness of my words on the day you flew away to escape the [BLANK] , I hold no ill will towards you. There is nothing you could have done to help those of us not gifted with wings; you only would have gotten [BLANK] , as we were. To suggest otherwise was heartless and illogical of me.
In fact, every day I am overjoyed at the thought of you flying high over the green fields beyond these icy mountains.
I will not name our friends for fear this letter might reach the wrong hands, but you know who they are. Each and every one of them wishes you the best wind under your feathers, and hopes for a reunion soon. In the meantime, may this new season of your life be the most wonderful adventure. I know [BLANK] ’s breath is with you.
May we soon be reunited in spring.
Volus.
