The Wrong Marauder

Summary:

Remus overhears a private conversation and jumps to the wrong conclusion.

Notes:

This is a fun little idea I had last week, and somehow it turned into a 6 thousand word one shot, not quite sure how that happened lol. But I loved writing this, hope you guys enjoy it!

Work Text:

Remus watched as you made your way to the table. He couldn't take his eyes off of you. He knew he was staring, but he couldn't help himself. You were so beautiful.

"Well hello there, gorgeous," Sirius said smoothly, winking at you as he did so.

"Hi, Sirius." You laughed at his neverending flirtations.

"Good morning, Y/N," Remus greeted you, and you turned to him.

"Hey, Rem," you greeted back, raising your hand in a little wave. He started to smile, but had to fight the frown that wanted to settle onto his face as he saw the blush on your face.

Damn Sirius and his stupid charms.

You sat down next to Sirius. It was the only space left available at the table, but still, Remus wished you'd been sitting next to him instead.

He forced himself to take his eyes off of you, opting to focus on something other than the proximity between you and Sirius, which was driving him nearly insane. He brought himself back into the conversation his friends were having instead.

~

Remus was on his way to his room, eager to settle down with a book.
He was passing by your door when he heard you speak from within the room.

"Lily, you don't understand!"

Remus paused at the desperation he heard in your voice. He waited a few seconds in front of the door after overhearing you speak, not wanting to intrude, but feeling the need to make sure you were alright.

"I cannot be in love with a Marauder!" you continued, and his eyes instantly widened. That wasn't what he'd expected. Now it was curiosity that froze him in place. He knew he shouldn't be listening in, but he couldn't help it. He moved a little closer, making sure he wasn't visible through the little space where the door wasn't fully closed.

"What's so wrong with that?" Lily laughed.

"Please, Lils, you know what's wrong. There's no way this'll ever end well for me. I buried my feelings as long as I could, but I… I love him. I can't deny that any longer. Well, to you, at least. There's no way I'm letting him know. I'm not about to lose my friend over this." You let out a heavy sigh, and Remus caught a glimpse of you letting yourself fall back onto your bed in a dramatic gesture.

"Y/N, you wouldn't lose him. You only stand to gain something by telling him." Lily tried to reason with you.

Remus saw the sharp shake of your head as you got yourself into a half sitting position.
"No! I can't put myself through that embarrassment. Have you seen him, Lils? I haven't got the slightest chance. He is literally the most stunning man I've ever seen. And he's so funny, too, he always makes me laugh. I just… I feel so much when I'm around him, I can barely stand it… Whenever he looks at me, I feel like my insides are melting. Whatever he says to me, I start blushing like a schoolgirl, it's ridiculous." You fell back completely onto your bed as you finished, your eyes glued to your ceiling.

Ah. So, Sirius then. He thought back to breakfast, how you'd blushed at Sirius' stupid flirtatious greeting. He didn't know why he'd even bothered hoping. Of course you fancied Sirius. He'd heard plenty of girls talk about his best friend that way to know. How could a girl like you ever fall for him, when Sirius was standing right there?

He shook his head, trying his best to shake the disappointment out of him. He knew he didn't deserve you, anyway. But you deserved better than Sirius, too. He had to make sure his idiot best friend wouldn't crush you with his carelessness.

He left the hall where your door stood, seeking out his friend.

~

"Oh, come on, Y/N, you know that Remus is head over heels in love with you. Everyone knows it. It's clear as day." Lily tried to reason with you once again. You merely shook your head in denial.

"It's literally as obvious as James was with me," she insisted.

You raised an incredulous brow at her. "Oh, really? Funny, I don't recall Remus following me around, proclaiming his undying love for me every other period," you said sarcastically.

She rolled her eyes. "Oh you know what I mean. He may not act like James, and thank Merlin for that, one of him is enough-" you chuckled at that, making her smile. "But still! The way he looks at you, the way he always wants to be near you, that is a man in love! Ask James or Sirius, I'm sure they'll tell you. Actually… I could ask James…" she trailed off, going into her own thoughts.

You gaped at her, your eyes growing twice their original size. "You will do no such thing!" you whisper yelled at her. "I'm serious, Lily. Remus cannot know about this, it'll change things between us. And if I can't have him the way I want him, having him as a friend is still better than not at all."

She raised her arms in surrender at your outburst. "Alright, alright, I won't." She couldn't keep her laughter in at your reaction. You truly were incredibly stubborn.

"Thank you," you huffed, crossing your arms over your chest, making her laugh once more.

~

Remus found Sirius lounging on a couch in the common room. His eyes were closed, but Remus knew he was awake.

"Hey, Pads," he said, causing the other boy to grin.

"Hey, Moony, what's up?" He opened his eyes, and his smile faded as he saw the grave expression on Remus' face. "Woah, what's got your knickers in a twist?" he joked, but his tone was a little hesitant at his friend's serious face. He sat up from his position, giving his full attention to Remus.

Remus sighed deeply before speaking, this was not a conversation he wanted to have. "I need you to be careful with Y/N…" he started, not sure how to phrase what he had to say.
Sirius frowned at him, a confused expression on his face. "What are you talking about?" he questioned his friend.

Remus let out another sigh, letting himself fall into the chair opposite Sirius.

"She…" He ran a hand through his hair, he didn't want to say it out loud. But he had to, for your sake. No matter how much it hurt him. "She's in love with you, Pads." He cringed as he said the words. Saying it made it feel all that more real.

Sirius erupted into laughter, causing Remus to glare at him. "What the bloody hell are you on about, mate?" Sirius managed to say in between his fits of laughter. He'd fallen back onto the couch in his laughter at the ludicrous idea.

"Would you stop laughing, this isn't funny," Remus groaned. Of all people, why did it have to be Sirius?

At Remus' tone, Sirius managed to calm down his laughter slightly, sitting up as he said, "Wait, you're not actually serious, are you?"

"Yes I'm bloody serious!" he exclaimed loudly. He paused instantly, looking around to make sure he didn't attract attention to him and his friend. This was a delicate matter that had to stay between them.
Sirius was frowning deeply now, any trace of amusement gone from his face. "Me? But I was- we all were so sure she was in lo-" He stopped himself before he finished that thought, shaking his head. He didn't want to hurt Remus even more by saying it. "How do you know?" he asked instead.

Remus let his head rest against the back of his chair, taking a deep breath before answering. "I heard her talking to Lily about it… She was telling her about how you're 'the most stunning man she's ever seen'-" Sirius grinned at that, and Remus rolled his eyes. "And that she's in love with you, and that the way you look at her makes her insides melt and-"

"Alright, alright, I get the picture," Sirius cut him off, raising a hand to halt his rambling. "Well, this is a problem," he said, mostly to himself.

"It is?" Remus said hopefully. He felt bad for it, but he couldn't help the relief that overflowed him at Sirius confirming that he wasn't interested.

"Of course. I love Y/N, she's one of my best friends. But I just don't feel that way about her. Don't get me wrong, she's absolutely gorgeous." Remus swallowed hard, his nervousness returning. "But it just wouldn't feel right," Sirius finished, and Remus exhaled, nodding in approval.

"And plus," Sirius added. "Even if I did want her like that, which I don't," he quickly clarified for Remus when he saw his friend's eyes widen. "I could never do that to you, Moony."

"T- to me?" Remus stuttered. "What does any of this have to do with me?"

Sirius let out an indignant huff. "Oh please, Remus. Everyone knows you've been in love with her for as long as we can remember. Well, everyone except her. Which, considering the situation, is a good thing I suppose…" he trailed off, rubbing a hand against his chin in thought.

"I don't know what you're talking about, I don't-" Remus' feeble defense quickly fell apart when he saw the look Sirius shot him. He let his shoulders fall down in defeat. "Fine. Yes, you're right. You all know?" he asked, wondering if he had really been that obvious when he was doing his damned best to hide his feelings.

Sirius merely hummed in affirmation, making a little dismissive gesture with his hand, he wanted to focus on the important information. Not something as old and inevitable as the sun rising each morning. "Now, what am I supposed to do about this?" he asked his friend.

"Er, I don't know." Remus scratched behind his ear. "Just, as I said before, be careful, I suppose? Try to stop with the flirty comments, stop giving her false hope." He didn't add that he would also much appreciate no longer having to witness that for himself.

"Hmm," Sirius hummed. "Flirting is who I am, Moons. I think it'd be more hurtful to her if I just suddenly acted differently around her."

He was right. That's what you had told Lily. That you were afraid that things would change between you two if he were to find out. "Alright yeah. Then what do you suggest?" Remus asked.
Sirius ran a hand through his hair, sighing. "I reckon I should just talk to her… clear the air, put everything out in the open," he said.

Remus frowned. "You sure?" he questioned. Sirius was not the best at being tactful, Remus didn't want you to end up even more hurt.

Sirius nodded. "Yeah. It's the best way to get this over with," he told his friend. "And don't worry, I'll be gentle. I promise," he added when he saw the look on Remus' face.
Remus merely nodded, not fully convinced. But he knew Sirius was right. He had to talk to you, let you down gently.

"Now, I seem to have an important talk ahead of me tomorrow, so I'm gonna go get some rest. Goodnight, Moony," he said as he got up from his seat, ruffling Remus' hair as he passed by.

Remus let out a small huff of annoyance at the gesture. "G'night," he mumbled in response.

~

The day was sunny and comfortable. Perfect weather for you to sit outside under a tree by the lake with a good book. Some fresh air and some peace of mind were all you needed. Away from your friends, keeping your… undesirable thoughts at bay.

That was, until you heard a voice speak up next to you, causing you to bring your book down.

"Hey there, Y/N," Sirius said. "Mind if I sit?" He gestured to the spot next to you a little awkwardly.

You frowned in confusion. Sirius seemed uncomfortable. Sirius was very rarely uncomfortable, especially around friends.

You nodded at him, marking the page you were at in your book when Sirius showed up and then putting the book down on the grass beside you. "Yeah, sure."

He slowly settled down next to you. As he leaned against the tree, his shoulder brushed against yours slightly, but he quickly pulled back, putting some distance between the two of you.

He was definitely acting weird. "Sirius… are you alright? What's up?" you asked him, a little worried about your friend. You turned to face him. He was fidgeting with a ring on his finger, not looking at you.

"I- I don't know how to say this…" he started, and you waited for him to continue, but he didn't. He seemed awfully fascinated by that ring.

"Say what? What's going on, Padfoot?" you questioned, growing more concerned by the minute. Had something happened to Remus? No. Not everything was about Remus. And if something had happened to him, he would've told you already.

He finally lifted his gaze back to you. "Look Y/N… I need you to know, I really care about you, you're one of my best friends…" he trailed off again, and you looked at him expectantly. Where the hell was he going with this?

He took a deep, steadying breath before saying. "I know you're in love with me." He looked at you with a certain sadness in his eyes, and for a moment, you couldn't do anything but stare at him, completely dumbfounded.

After a few seconds, a boisterous laugh erupted out of you. "What?" you managed to breathe.

Sirius frowned. That was not the reaction he had been expecting. "Y/N, it's alright. Moony told me, and I just wanted to… well I wanted to let you know that I knew, and that I'm gonna try to be more careful around you, if that makes sense? Like I said, I really care about you, and I wouldn't want to do anything to hurt you. But I just… don't feel that way about you."

You looked at him incredulously. The only reason you'd let him get through this little speech he seemed to have prepared for you was because you were too stunned to speak until now.

"Oh, oh okay, Moony told you." You made a wild gesture with your arms. "That explains everything!" you exclaimed sarcastically. "Is this some sort of weird prank?"

Now it was Sirius' turn to look utterly confused. "I- um- no?"

"Sirius, I am sorry to bruise your ego, but I am not, never have, and never will be in love with you," you told him.

"Ouch, alright." He could see that you were telling the truth. But that made absolutely no sense.

"But, Moony said that- and he wouldn't-"

"How on earth did he get that idea? What did he say to you?" you asked, wondering what you could ever have possibly done to convince Remus that you had feelings for Sirius of all people.

"He said he heard you speak with Lily. That you were telling her about your love for me, how I was so irresistible-" a wink, which made you chuckle. "-and you couldn't stand it anymore and all that crap," he said, confusion still written all over his features.

You froze in your spot, your own confusion replaced by an instant blush at his words. Now you understood. You wished you didn't though.

At the look on your face, he seemed to understand as well. He shook his head gently. "You never said to Lily it was me you were in love with, did you?" he asked you, even though he already knew the answer.

You shook your head in response. "No." The word was barely above a whisper.

"Bloody hell! How bloody dense can he be?" Sirius grunted in annoyance. "I knew it! I knew there was no way! Not just no way you were in love with me, but no way you weren't in love with Remus!" Sirius exclaimed a bit too loudly, getting up in his excitement.

"Shh! Shut up, will you?! I don't need this broadcasted around!" You grabbed his arm to pull him back down on the ground next to you, willing him not to cause a scene.

You'd started blushing again when he mentioned you being in love with Remus, and now that he'd settled back down next to you, he instantly noticed, a finger poking at your cheek. "Aw look at her, so in love, she's blushing," he cooed and you swatted his finger away, rolling your eyes in annoyance.

"Can you not?" you groaned at him, but you knew that the more you protested, the more annoying he'd get, so you opted not to deny his statement. Anyway, it's not like you had any chance of convincing him it wasn't true.

The grin on his face made you want to slap him. "Oh this is absolutely fantastic!" he exclaimed. "But how did that daft little twit ever jump to the conclusion that you were talking about me, though?"

You rolled your eyes at him, trying to think back on your conversation with Lily the day before. "I suppose he left before Lily said his name? And before that, well… I said I was in love with a Marauder, so he must've assumed that I meant you."

Sirius let himself fall dramatically onto the grass, groaning in frustration as he did so. "Oh what a bloody moron he is! How could he even think for one second that it wasn't him you were talking about? You both are the most obvious painful lovesick puppy dogs I've ever witnessed in my life, and that's counting James-"

"Wait, what did you say?" you interrupted Sirius, and he froze, only now realizing he'd said too much.

"What? I didn't say nothin'." He raised his arms in surrender from his position lying down, but you jumped onto him, landing on top of him.

"Sirius. Don't fuck with me right now. Why did you say 'you both'?" you questioned, your elbows digging into his ribs.

"Argh, fine. If this is what it takes for you to finally make your bloody move, he's in love with you too, you fool." He grinned, a little painfully as you still had all your weight onto him.
You couldn't help the butterflies in your stomach at his words. "You're serious?" you asked, needing to be sure. But you knew he wouldn't lie to you about something like this.

"That is my name, yes," he answered playfully, and you smacked his arm. "Yes, love, I'm serious. Now please, for the love of God, go get your man, and let me breathe."

You laughed happily, letting yourself fall onto him fully to pull him into a hug. He grunted slightly, but put his arm around you, smiling at the prospect of his two best friends finally being happy together.

~

Remus was glued to his spot. He'd thought you might need a friend, someone to lean on, after your talk with Sirius.

What he had not expected was finding you lying on top of Sirius, grinning wildly with unabashed happiness, and Sirius putting his arms around you when you leaned in even closer to him.

Remus felt his chest tighten. What the fuck was Sirius doing? This was the opposite of what they'd discussed. Was he really about to use you for an easy lay? But you seemed so happy, did he lie and say he returned your feelings? Did he return your feelings and had lied to Remus about it?

Remus shook his head. No. Sirius would never do that to him, especially when he knew how Remus felt about you.

But even as he told himself that, he couldn't deny what was before his eyes.
He wiped the stray tear that had made its way past his defenses, quickly turning away to go back to the castle.

~

You'd left Sirius by the lake to bask in the sun, eager to find Remus.

You were incredibly nervous and couldn't believe you were actually about to do this, but you knew Sirius wouldn't have told you Remus loved you if he didn't. And even if you weren't to confess, you still had to clear things up about what he thought he'd heard.

You couldn't have him believe you were in love with Sirius. No, that was the last thing you wanted.

You'd hoped to find him in the common room, but the only Marauder you saw upon your arrival was James. You made your way to him, trying to mask your nerves behind a smile.

"Have you seen Remus?" you asked him, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible.

"Well hello to you too, darling," he answered as he brought a hand to his chest in mock hurt. "Always about Moony with you, isn't it?" he exclaimed dramatically, causing you to roll your eyes. "Can't even say hello to your old pal?"

You groaned at his antics. "Hello, James. How are you, dear friend?" You gave him a little curtsy, making him laugh. "Better?"

"Much, thank you," he exclaimed happily, and you couldn't help the little chuckle that escaped you. "Now, as for Moony-" he wiggled his eyebrows at you, and you huffed in annoyance. "He's in our room." You turned to head that way, but James' voice made you stop in your tracks. "But… I'm not sure I'd go there right now if I were you…" he trailed off.

You turned back to face him. "Why?" you questioned.

"He's in one hell of a mood. 'Said hello to him when he came in a little while ago and he almost bit my head off." James shrugged, answering the question you'd been about to ask with that gesture: no, he didn't know why Remus was in a bad mood.

"Thanks, James, but I'll take my chances either way," you told him as you turned away once more to make your way towards the stairs.

"Alright, be my guest. But don't come complaining to me if he's a rude arsehole to you!" You heard James call after you as you climbed the stairs, dismissing his words with a gesture of your hand.

~

You knocked on the door to the boys' dorm room, but no answer came. Slowly, you opened the door, scanning the room for him. "Remus?"

Your eyes landed on him, he was sitting on his bed, his back against the headboard, staring blankly at the wall. You frowned in concern. James had been correct, he really seemed to be in a bad way. But that wouldn't make you turn away.

"Rem, hey," you said gently as you made your way towards his bed, sitting down on the edge of it. You made to grab his hand, but hesitated for a moment. Remembering what Sirius had told you, you went for it and took his hand into yours.

That seemed to get him out of his daze, finally, and he blinked slowly, his eyes going down to your joined hands. "Y/N?" His voice sounded rough and scratchy, as if he'd been crying.
"Rem, are you okay? What's going on?" You gave his hand a squeeze to prompt an answer out of him.

He hummed in response. "'M great."

"Remus, come on," you pleaded. You knew he sometimes had bad moods, but the full moon wasn't anytime soon… and even when he'd get like this, you were usually the one person that could get through to him. "Please, talk to me."

He shook his head lightly, a bitter smile forming on his face. "Look, Y/N, if you're happy, I'm happy." His thumb started a circling motion on your hand, he didn't seem to notice he was doing it. But you, on the other hand, had a really hard time focusing on anything other than that simple gesture.

"I just don't…" He leaned his head against the board behind him, sighing. "I don't want you to get hurt. And I understand that you love him, and if he's what will make you happy, then that's what I want for you. But you- you deserve so much more than him, and he's only gonna let you down, he won't be able to help it, even if he tries." He couldn't look at you as he spoke. His eyes were shut tight. His hand still holding on to yours.

"And I just- I just wish it were me…" he breathed out, so quietly you almost didn't hear.

Your eyes widened as you looked at him, not quite believing the last sentence you'd just heard. It was one thing to have Sirius tell you Remus felt the same way about you. But to hear it straight from Remus' lips, with just you and him, in his room, that was a whole other thing.

"It is," you whispered back, and you felt a weight being lifted off your shoulders, some deep, unspoken truth finally seeing the light. The thing you'd kept so close to your chest for so long, out for the world, your world, to know, with two simple words.

"What?" Remus lifted his head back and opened his eyes to look at you. You saw confusion and sadness there, mixed now with a tinge of hope.

"I am not in love with Sirius, you idiot." You chuckled lightly. "I am in love with you, Remus Lupin," you told him, a smile forming on your face as you allowed yourself to say the words out loud.

There was a smile, slightly hesitant, on his own face now, too, but he couldn't help the frown that settled in as well. "But- but I heard you… Speaking to Lily about it. I know I shouldn't have been listening in, and I'm sorry, I just couldn't make myself walk away… And- and- oh god," he tripped over his own words, struggling to say this last, painful piece of proof he had that you indeed loved Sirius. He ran a hand through his hair, looking away from you as he forced himself to get the words out. "And I saw the two of you snogging by the lake earlier…"

An incredulous laugh escaped you, which caused his eyes to land back on you. Hurt flashed in his eyes, and you realized he genuinely believed what he was saying, he wasn't joking.

"Remus, what are you talking about?" You shook your head in disbelief. He was truly convinced you had feelings for his best friend. "I wasn't snogging Sirius, I was hugging my friend, with whom I am absolutely not in love, after he gave me the best news I've ever heard in my life," you explained, making sure he was still looking at you as you spoke. "And as for what you heard yesterday, Remus… when did you ever hear me mention Sirius' name in that conversation?" you questioned gently, hoping he would come to the realization himself.

His hand went up to his face to scratch behind his ear, his nose scrunching up in an adorable little gesture as he thought back on it. "I…" He blushed in embarrassment. You were right, he'd never heard you say it was Sirius, he'd merely assumed. His hand went to cover his eyes as his blush grew, your words finally sinking in.

"Remus," you said, wanting him to look at you. But his hand still covered up half of his face. "Rem." You got closer to him, poking his side lightly. His fingers parted slightly as he sneaked a peek at you, and you laughed at his ridiculous but adorable behavior.

A shy grin formed on his face at your laughter, and he finally removed his hand fully, looking at you properly.

You took this as your opportunity to put it out there, clearly and unashamedly. "All those things you heard me say yesterday, they were about you, Remus. Not Sirius, not anyone else but you. You're the one who makes my heart skip a beat every time you look at me. The one who's stupid jokes that shouldn't even be funny make me laugh until I cry. The one who's presence I crave at all times. You're the one I'm in love with."

He was looking at you with such adoration in his eyes. Had he always been looking at you like that? You were beginning to understand what Sirius had meant. The thought made you laugh lightly, shaking your head mildly.

"What?" Remus questioned, grinning from ear to ear as he kept looking at you.

"Nothing, I just-" You shook your head once again, smiling wildly. "Nevermind, it's not important."

His hand lifted to cup your cheek, and you leaned into his gentle touch, putting your own hand above his. "Y/N, I have loved you since the moment I first laid eyes on you, when you bursted into our compartment to hide from the Slytherin boy you'd just jinxed." You chuckled at the memory, remembering all too well that fateful day when you'd decided to pull a prank on Snape, and how it resulted in you meeting all of your closest friends. "I've tried to keep my feelings to myself, although according to our dear friends, I've been doing a poor job of it-" You laughed again at this. "-because I just couldn't see you ever feeling the same way as I do. You're just perfect in every way and you deserve the entire world, more than I could ever give you."

You frowned at his statement. "Remus, I'm not perfect. Far from it. And I don't want the world, I want you. You are my world," you said decidedly, giving no room for argument.

He smiled softly, and you saw a tear fall down his cheek, which you brushed away with your thumb. "I love you. All of you and only you," you whispered, leaning your forehead against his.

He smiled once again, his hand brushing a stray strand of hair away from your face. "May I..?" he didn't finish his sentence, but you knew what he was asking.

"Please do." You nodded slightly, smiling brightly at him.

And then his lips were on yours, soft and gentle at first, but quickly the kiss deepened, both of you needing more of each other.

His hands went back to your face, one on each side, your own going to hold onto each of his wrists, as if to keep his hands there forever.

You felt the heat rise up in you as you kissed and kissed.

He eventually pulled away just enough to be able to speak, his lips brushing against yours every time he moved them. "I felt so crushed yesterday." A kiss. "I couldn't stand you being in love with anyone that wasn't me." Another kiss. "Let alone my fucking best friend." Another. A breathy laugh escaped your lips at his antics. "But you're mine." He went in for one more quick kiss. "All mine," he nearly growled near your ear, and suddenly you didn't feel like laughing anymore. You couldn't help the little moan that escaped you. A proud smile appeared on his face at your reaction to him.

You groaned and grabbed his collar, pulling him to you for a desperate kiss. "Shut up."

"Hmm, I didn't say anything, my love," he mumbled against your lips as he laid you down on his bed.

~

You were laying on Remus' chest, your fingers tracing lazy patterns onto his skin as he played with your hair.

This was it, the happiest you would ever be. Nothing could ever disrupt that moment. Nothing, aside from…

"I know you'd rather be alone but I had to check on you, Moony, so please don't-" James' voice could be heard as he opened the door and stepped into the room. You let out a little scream as you scrambled to cover yourself with the bedsheet.

James turned away quickly. "Fuck, I'm sorry!" he exclaimed. "I'll just get out of your hair-" He had taken a step towards the door to leave, but abruptly stopped his movement. "Wait a minute!" He jumped back around to face the both of you, and an excited scream came out of his mouth. "Holy shit! I thought that was who I saw! Y/N!" He jumped in place a few times with barely containable energy.

"SIRIUS!" he shouted at the top of his lungs, making you jump a little.

"Prongs, what the hell!" Remus hissed at his friend. "Get the hell out!" He motioned with his hand for James to leave the room, but James was having none of it.

"Padfoot, get your ass up here right now!" he yelled once more.

The man appeared in a frenzy, a look of mild panic on his face.

"Prongs? What's going on?" he questioned worriedly, having yet to notice the other people present in the room.

James pointed to you wildly, making Sirius turn to look. A wild grin appeared on his face at the sight. "Well I'll be damned. You dirty little rascals! It was about bloody time. I'm glad to know my matchmaking skills are up to par," he teased, his grin growing the longer he spoke.

"This was your doing?" James asked, and Sirius nodded proudly in response.

"Oh please, you had nothing to do with it," you huffed, the urge to put Sirius back in his place making you temporarily forget that you were naked, in Remus' bed.

He scoffed in disbelief. "If I hadn't told you about Moony's feelings, you wouldn't be in his bed right now, don't even try to deny it."

"You told her? What kind of friend are you?" Remus exclaimed indignantly.

"Oh don't be dramatic Moony, and plus, after the embarrassment you put me through of making me believe she was in love with me and having to go… talk to her about it-" he shuddered at the memory of the awkwardness of the beginning of that conversation he'd had with you earlier. "-it was only fair," he finished with a smirk.

"I seem to have been… misinformed…" Remus looked away sheepishly.

"Of course you were misinformed! Y/N is obviously madly in love with you, mate!" James chimed in. "Although… I'm assuming you're aware of that now," he added with a grin that matched Sirius'. They glanced at each other, and then they both had their eyes on you, wiggling their eyebrows at you in perfect unison.

"Alright, that's enough now." Remus grabbed a pillow that had fallen on the floor and threw it as hard as he could at them, Sirius catching it midair. "Out! Right now!" Remus exclaimed.

The boys both laughed, James raised his hands in surrender, and Sirius threw back the pillow towards Remus half-heartedly.

"Right, come on, Pads, they're hungry for round two," James laughed as he wiggled his eyebrows once again, causing Remus to take hold once more of his makeshift weapon and throwing it straight at James' face. James merely laughed again, letting the pillow fall to the ground as both men made their way back to the door.

With his hand on the doorknob, Sirius said, "In all seriousness, guys, we're really happy for you."

"Thanks Sirius," you said, a smile on your face. "Now, please, get out."

"Right, right. I'm going. Don't be too loud." He winked as he closed the door, causing you and Remus both to roll your eyes in exasperation.

"Our friends are truly the worst," you said, exalting in relief at them finally being gone.

"We heard that!" You heard James shout from the other side of the door.

"Piss off!" you called out to him, hearing their laughs in response.

"They are," Remus said with a chuckle. "They were right about one thing, though." He brought his arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer to him as he rubbed little circles on your shoulder with his thumb.

"Oh yeah? And what's that?" you questioned, a contented smile growing on your face as you let your head rest against him.

He pressed a tender kiss to your forehead as he said, "It was about bloody time."
