"Say, Mo Yi..."
"Hm?"
"May it come a time that I have to pass... What will happen to you then?"
He smiles— one that reminds her of being alone during long winters, and of a lover waiting for their other half.
"I shall let the time pass, 'til you are reborn again. Until the heavens have allowed you to descend the mortal realm again— I will find you, and I will give you everything that you truly deserve. Whichever lifetime it may be."
Silence fills the air. One beat, two beats pass, and another. Then Rosa speaks.
"What if I forget?"
Mo Yi only walks to her, before he reaches out his palm. She takes it with no hesitation, and in one heartbeat, she is standing in front of him as he pulls her in his arms. And then she feels his arms cage her inside his embrace.
"Know that I will not."
Rosa leans into him, and Mo Yi cradles her head in his hand, his fingers running down her unkept hair. She fights the urge to cry, but she does not realize that tears are already falling down her face, til Mo Yi's thumb brushes it away from her cheeks.
"If there comes a day that the gods will take your life away from me, know that you will forever be inside me. You will not leave my mind, nor my heart."
Rosa reaches out to put her hand atop his, and he continues.
"You will live through me, my dearest Qiangwei. And with every year that I am not with you, I will continue to honor your memory until we are reunited once again. Even if you do forget, I will not take it to heart. I will simply create new memories for your mind to remember."
"Mo Yi..."
"Do know, Qiangwei," he whispers, pain and longing in his voice, "that the mind forgets."
He takes her hand into his, before he places their intertwined palms atop Rosa's heart. It beats loudly in her chest, reminding her that she is here. And he is with her.
"But the heart will not."
He presses his lips unto hers, and she closes her eyes to embed the feeling of him into her. As the night continues to envelop them, her heavy heart lightens, and Rosa takes refuge in his comforting presence, believing, and trusting in the man that has showed her what it meant to love, and to be loved.
