Cindy / Lily
1301 Words

Cindy knew exactly what she was at this point: a bad bitch.

Perhaps it was the only thing that she knew. That, and boys. They all naturally flocked to her, and Cindy could easily choose anyone she wanted with no effort.

Just a kind look at a boy would make him gravitate towards her, and make him wrap himself around her finger. At school, Cindy had everything she wanted. Her home life was still garbage, but who needed supportive parents when you could be the it girl of the whole school?

Well, Cindy had everything, except Lily. No one had annoyed her more than Lily, and she couldn't even place her finger on why.

She went to all the basketball games that Cindy cheered at. Even then, she didn't even watch her brother play; she just looked at the clock behind the bleachers, like she was just daydreaming. Seriously? Just go home, and free up a seat. They had nearly identical schedules, so Cindy always saw her every moment of the day. Everywhere she went, Lily was always there too.

Right when she had thought the breach had stopped, Cindy had started to notice her friend squad flocking over to Lily, wanting her to explain more about her mythical fantasies. Cindy really didn't have a choice anymore; she had to see what was so special about Lily. Who even was she? Where did she come from and what did she do to get the entire school to love her? She wasn't funny. Or pretty.

Except, maybe she was. Maybe CIndy was looking at her in a different way than before, or maybe she was just focused on other things, like the sudden departure of her friends.

When the lunch bell rang the next day, Cindy walked over to where Lily was sitting with all of her (stolen) friends, and sat down next to the smaller girl. Lily looked at her and smiled innocently. She was almost too friendly; it made Cindy scream internally.

"Hey!" She greeted her, "I'm Lily. I think I've seen you around."

Cindy plastered a smile on her face, she probably looked fake, but she didn't have intentions to be too nice.

"Yeah. I know who you are. It's Cindy. You're kinda stealing my thunder at this school."

Lily had the most disappointed look on her face, and Cindy can't help but feel a little bad.

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"Don't play dumb with me. You can be as nice as you want to them, but it won't last. Once they're not interested in your monster stories anymore they'll come back to someone."

She takes the time to give Lily a particularly taunting look, although she wasn't sure exactly why she did so.

"Me. They'll come back to me, and you'll have to deal with being the groupie for your brother's friends."

Cindy turned and walked away, not bothering to look at Lily's probably distraught reaction.

With her proper "introduction" into play, Cindy exited the cafeteria. Even though Lily was cuter than any boy she had been with, she was never going to let her find out about her growing fascination.

Since that day, Cindy started being more and more petty to Lily specifically. While the behavior she expressed was never downright cruel, in her own opinion, it was clear that Lily was becoming more and more pissed off at her. Right?

So that's why it surprised Cindy when Lily didn't cry during class or give her the attention she begged for. Instead, she found ways to get back at Cindy.

She would distract her during tests and gym, and would continue to charm her friends to hang out with her instead. At points she'd be more direct, like dropping books and bending over right in front of her, or even downright flirting with her at times.

What was she doing? That kinda stuff was MY job, not hers!

Cindy decided to confront Lily about her behavior and hopefully finally swat the annoying pest off her shoulder. Unless?

The final game of the basketball season had concluded, and while the air was still filled with cheering and players heading into the locker rooms, Cindy sought out Lily, who was waving good-bye to her brother, the star of the team.

Cindy waited a little longer, until the majority of the crowd and the poms teams had left the building as well. Lily was sitting on her phone, waiting, almost as if she was waiting for Cindy to approach her.

"What is wrong with you?" Cindy snarled, regretting at how unsure her tone sounded.

"Huh?" Lily questioned. "I didn't have a problem with you until you started being a bitch to me."

"But two can play at that game, Cindy." Her wink was dangerous, and Cindy felt her heart throb like nothing else before.

"Well...I had to be this way. You were trying to steal my – position as the top girl! W-We went over this!"

"I'm starting to think that all the boys you hang around are rotting your brain. I never tried to take over anything, hell, I don't even like being around anyone besides my brother. But you were right, your friends came back to you like you said." She paused to take a breath.

"Also, it's been months and you still want to tease me. Why are you so obsessed with me?"

The smaller girl panted with fury, but before she could continue Cindy fired back.

"I run this school, if you didn't know. I have to keep little "I'm not like the other girls" in check!" She raised her bright blue pom poms in the air like she was mimicking a victory dance.

"Seriously?" she scoffed. "Screw off with those pom poms too!" Lily acted in anger and pulled them from Cindy's hands to which they fell on the ground limply. It was her words next that shocked her.

"Why don't you keep your little crush in check too?"

Cindy watched her in disbelief. In that moment, they both knew that this was never a 'popularity' contest, far from the opposite actually. Even Lily covered her mouth and seemed to regret her harshness.

She turned away and was heading to leave the gym; she'd had enough of Lily's bullshit anyways.

However, she felt a hand on her arm that pulled her back. Before Cindy had enough time to cry out, Lily's lips were on hers. In shock, Cindy could do nothing more than just stand in awe. Eventually, she matched Lily's movements and savored the moment.

The gym was completely empty, not like either of them even cared in that moment though. Cindy broke off from the kiss and looked into Lily's tearing eyes, realizing her mistakes.

"Lily, I'm so sorry." She whispered softly, so her voice wouldn't break again. "For everything that I've done. I didn't even want to be mean to you, I just wanted to meet you but I messed that up. So...I teased you, and to my surprise you might have been more of a bitch than I was. But I didn't want you to..." she broke off with a sigh.

"Oh? To what?" Lily asked, folding her arms cutely.

"Shit, I don't even know. I didn't want you to forget that I even ever existed...despite the fact we're in all the same classes..." she broke her confession with a sigh.

She looked up at Cindy with a cloudy look, obviously thinking about her next words.

"You're forgiven."

Lily concluded, brushing her lips to her cheek again, but only for a brief moment before she pulled away. Billy had finally exited the locker room. Before she greeted her brother, she faced Cindy one last time.

"But only if I can take you to prom."
