In the 1990's there was a new pill out that put omega's in heat in less than 30 minutes. It was a blessing for couples who didn't want to wait until their omegas to be in heat at any random moment. And it was, in the beginning. When the pill came out people didn't need a prescription from a doctor to get it. People could easily purchase it over the counter like it was a simple aspirin, but it wasn't.
The heat pills were so accessible to everyone that even alphas and betas thought of taking it for their own personal reasons. But that only lead to them being in the hospital with the omega's that took more than one pill, kidnapped omegas being forced to take the pill, children, and many others making bad decisions that it almost lead to omega's being extinct if they hadn't recalled the drug and did much more research on it to perfect it, and make it a controlled so no one can buy it unless they have a signed prescription from a real doctor.

Which is why 16 year old omega Virgil Storm is in this position. Since omega's are on the edge of extinction Virgil is being watch and guarded to make sure nothing bad happens to him.
''Did you take your suppressant'', Virgil turned to Remy who was one of the workers making sure Virgil is safe until he finds a alpha.
''Yep'', Virgil said then looking through the window to see he's almost at his high school. ''You know Remy it's my first day of high school as a 2nd year so what if we instead''-
''Not gonna happen babe''.
''It was worth a try''.
''Come on this is high school, you have to have found someone who could be a perfect alpha for you''.
''I want to at least try and make some friends before I do anything like that but everyone always seems to have their eyes on me just waiting for when my heat will come so they could claim me''. Virgil took a deep breath and exhaled. ''I just want everyone to know me as Virgil and not just a omega but it's hard in the state we're in''.
Remy parked and put a hand on Virgil's shoulder. ''I know it's hard babe, but you have to try''.
Virgil sadly looked down at his hands which was holding his backpack.
Remy then shook Virgil's shoulder a little, ''how about this. You promise me you try and I'll take the both of us to Starbucks after school''.
''… Alright'', Virgil gave a small smile then exited the car.
As Virgil got out of the car he thought. Maybe today won't be so bad. I have 2 art electives this year, I'm getting Starbucks after school and I have until the end of college to find my alpha. That's enough time.
