Work Text:
“You want to go don’t you?” I say suddenly. Len had just told me about his night, which I must say was more eventful then mine.
He looks away from me and a frown falls over his face. Slowly, he nods.
“I promise I will come back as often as they’ll let me, you’ll probably get bored of me as often as I’ll be around.”
Tears start to flow down my cheeks. But he is quick to wipe them away. “Hey baby, don’t cry on my account.”
“I’m gonna miss you so much, Len”
He forces a smile, “Don’t worry scarlet, I’ll be back before you know it.”
—
That was the last I heard of Len. When I finally found out about his sacrifice, I pushed my emotions down. We had a job to do, and aliens to fight, after all.
After a while I forgot that I was ignoring my feelings, and every once in a while they snuck out. Whenever this happened I simply went out for a run and tried to ignore other people.
The more time that passed since I learned of his death, the more frequently it happened. No one even knew that we were together. Which means that I can’t talk to them about it. Especially not now that it has been a few years.
—
I started my day just like I normally would. Get up, get dressed, get breakfast, go to star labs. But when I ran into the cortex I stopped dead in my tracks. He was standing right there. My heart slams up into my throat.
Before I can even think I turn him around and kiss him. I don’t even care that the others are in the room. All that I can think is that he is back.
But my magical moment is slammed to a halt just a few seconds after it began, as he shoves me away.
“Well, that was one hell of a hello. But I get the feeling that you think I am someone else.” He says without his familiar drawl. “I am Leonard Snart, of Earth-X, but you can call me Leo.”
I can’t hold back anymore. I break down into tears and he seems to panic.
“No, don’t do that, I didn’t mean to make you cry.” Then he looks at someone “What did I do?”
I don’t hear a response but I didn’t really listen anyways. “You’re not Len.”
“No I’m not, and I am very sorry that my face brings you so much pain.”
—
It took some adjusting, but eventually I stopped crying. I had to get away from him so I ran away. I don’t know where to, but eventually I made it to the speed lab.
“So… Snart?” I hear Cisco say from the doorway. “How long?”
“We started seeing each other just after we made that deal. He didn’t want to tell anyone, thought it would ruin my reputation. But deep down I think he was just scared of you guys. Especially Joe.” He smiles and hugs me, trying to bring me some semblance of comfort.
—
It took a while, but eventually I could look at Leo without breaking down.
When that happened he walked up to me. “I understand that you and my doppelganger had a history.” I nod, not looking in his direction. “Well I am sorry that I hurt you. I’ll try to stay out of your way so as to not do it again. As long as you promise to not tell my boyfriend about that kiss, even if it is for your protection.”
I smile at that, “deal. And I am sorry that I have acted like this, it's just… well… it hurts to see you.”
