Thump. He ignored it, turning his body the other way as he tried to get to another comfortable position. Thump. Maybe it was just a figment of his dream, he thinks. Thump . Another one, until all his ears could pick up were endless thumps , waking his consciousness and dragging his soul back to reality.
Sunghoon flutters, no , opens his eyes open almost immediately as he jolts out of his bed– which he realized 5 seconds later that he should’ve stuck to doing it slowly –as he feels the painful throbbing of his head. He frowns, walking up to the door as he clutches his head in between his hands. The knocks were getting louder and louder so he wasted no time in opening it.
“What the fuck were you thinking, hyung!?” A raging Sunoo Kim in his cream colored striped sweater, blue jeans and cap on his head bursted in followed by Jungwon Yang who only smiled at him. Sunoo stands in the middle of Sunghoon’s dorm room, hands on his hips as he throws glares towards Sunghoon, “You’re so stupid.”
“Chill out, Sunoo hyung. I bet he doesn’t even remember what happened last night.” Jungwon breaks, looking at Sunghoon then looking back at Sunoo with a ‘see? I’m correct’ look.
Sunghoon stills, mind rewinding to what happened last night. There was a party, he can’t remember whose it was. He was with his friends, but somehow he got lost in the sea of people. He drank liquor, but he was too hazy to even remember what he drank. And then there was him, Sim Jaeyun, but he couldn’t even recall what he had done.
It was like a puzzle that got ruined, the pieces scattered on the ground as he tried to pick it up but to no avail, he failed.
“What happened last night?” He asks.
“Check your Twitter.” Three words and he was out cold. What the fuck do they mean? Twitter?
He runs back to his room, picking up his phone only to internally groan when it wouldn’t turn on. He plugs in the charger, and he didn’t know if he’d sigh in relief because it wasn’t broken or chop his head off because it has no battery.
He walks back to the living room feeling dejected. He stands in front of Jungwon with his hands out, “May I borrow?”
Jungwon curls his eyebrow but hands it to him nonetheless. He opens Twitter and he nearly dies at the first post he sees.

Sunghoon would be better off dead.
They are all over Twitter.
You see, this would be okay with Sunghoon. Totally fine because he liked attention thrown at him.
But the thing is, it was with Sim Jaeyun. Jake, the Aussie guy. Jaeyun, the puppy looking guy at school. Sim Jake, the very bane of his existence.
“Can I skip school today?” He croaks out as he picks up his phone that was fully charged. Jungwon laughs as Sunoo glares at him, “Absolutely not!”
He opens his phone and he wants to pass out when he sees so many notifications bombarding him– from Twitter notifications to DMs to iMessages. He stills the moment he sees one notification that stood out from the rest. It was from Jaeyun.
Jaeyun @jaeyunssim_
: hi baby, u alive?
What the fuck?
Sunghoon grimaces and throws his phone away, hands in head as he plops his body onto his bed. This was too much, what was he thinking last night!?
“Did we really kiss?” He asks his friends. Sunoo nods repetitively with a ghost of a smile on his lips, “Like, kiss kiss ?”
“Yes..” Jungwon affirms, clapping like a kid when he remembers something, “With tongue!”
Maybe Sunghoon dashed to the bathroom and brushed his teeth immediately after the words Jungwon said. Out of pure disgust.
Now he has two problems: going to school and facing Jaeyun. To which he plans on dumping but Sunoo and Jungwon didn’t let him.
So there he was, standing by the school doors as he contemplated whether or not this was a good decision. The hungover was still seeping through his brain and he could feel every bit of flame burning up his head whenever he moved, but he had no other choice but to suck it in.
He walks inside, chin up high because how dare he if he falters just because of it. He was the Park Sunghoon, respected, looked up high at, appreciated, and feared . Who was he to back down?
He meets his locker after receiving a few knowing glances from the students– some even giggling like school girls –which made him gag. He knew why, and he wanted to die. He fumbles with his key and even struggles placing it in. The inside of his locker looked hideous, maybe just like how he looks right now. Taking everything he needed, he closed it with a bang and nearly got a heart attack when he saw who was beside his locker door.
Jake fucking Sim, in all his great glory, was leaning against the locker beside Sunghoon’s as he sports a shit eating grin as if he knows what Sunghoon is going through. Oh of course he knows.
“Did you have a great night, Sunghoonie?” Jaeyun pouts, “You look awfully tired.”
Now fully aware of his surroundings, Sunghoon notices the subtle eavesdropping that some students near them were doing. And it takes every string of patience in him to not throw a punch to the boy in front of him.
“Stay away from me, fucker.” He spins on his toes and attempts to walk away but in a flash, Jaeyun was already in front of him, “Move away.”
“I’m just being nice, it’d be good if you reciprocate.” And then he winked, and Sunghoon wanted to snatch his eyeballs out.
“I don’t reciprocate shit for you, Jake. ” He says his name in a way that’d make anyone tremble in fear, and he hopes Jaeyun will.
“Oh?” Jaeyun smiles and licks his bottom lip, and Sunghoon knows it was intentional. To spite him out even more, “But you reciprocated very well last night, Sunghoon.”
His cheeks flushed at the mention of last night. Averting his gaze due to uneasiness and fear of being seen taken aback, Sunghoon laughs, “Reciprocated what?” He stammers.
“The kiss we shared,” Jaeyun gestures to the both of them, “The kiss you initiated.”
Sunghoon drops his books at the sudden information. He quickly drops to the ground to pick it up, hiding the faint tint of red on his cheeks from Jaeyun. The aforementioned boy laughs before grabbing some of the books as he bends down too.
“I didn’t know you had a thing for your enemies.” He whispers. Sunghoon clenches his jaw, the annoyance creeping up to him so bad that he meets Jake’s stare with rage.
He spats back, “I didn’t know my kiss would make you that talkative around me, Sim. Did you like it that much?” And then he leaves. Just like that, a victory grin makes its way to his lips.
Jake Sim, for Sunghoon, is someone who shouldn’t, couldn’t and wouldn’t be within his area of existence. Mainly because it’s an unsaid rule between the both of them ever since forever. Jaeyun had always irritated the fuck out of him, especially in academics where they both excel.
It’s petty, everyone knows that except for the both of them. Sunghoon hates him out of undefined lines of jealousy and envy seeping into him everytime Jaeyun outclasses him, meanwhile Jaeyun hates him because Sunghoon hated him first.
Unfortunately, the universe doesn’t really agree on separating the both of them from each other. Now, they’re involved in this mess that the both of them can’t run away from, because things got really complicated overnight and now Jaeyun is always up against Sunghoon’s ass, never really having the plan to let it go.
Sunghoon takes his seat, dropping his things on his feet when he walks inside the classroom. He avoided looking by the windows where Jaeyun always settles, sparing himself from any stress caused by the other boy. He could only release a frustrated sigh when he felt a finger poking him, turning around only to see Park Jongseong– Jaeyun’s friend and.. Jungwon’s boyfriend.
“What do you need?” He asks in a dismissive tone. He hopes Jay gets the notice that no, I am not in the mood to talk especially to Jaeyun’s peers , but what does he even expect from someone like Jay?
“About last night–”
“I don’t remember shit from last night so if you’re going to ask me how it happened, then..” He cuts Jay off, a bit stressed from the mention of last night’s events. Just exactly how did it even come to that point?
“Oh,” Jay stills, “You don’t remember? Good, I was actually about to apologize.”
He whips his head to Jay quickly, mouth agape as he asks, “Why? What did you do?”
“Nothing!” The urge to strangle Jay until he speaks of nothing but the truth was cut off when their professor greets them, leaving Sunghoon nothing but to constantly throw glares at Jay in an attempt to scare him off.
Just by then, Sunghoon’s phone dings– a simple sign that someone sent him a message. Right before classes start. He fishes it from the pocket of his pants, his phone feeling heavy in his hands. He opens it and visibly winces at the sight of the booming notifications he’s yet to check. And just like earlier, one notification stood out the most. A little number 2 in a red circle staring down at him with utter desperation to be read.
He clicks, and he wonders why the fuck did he even do that.
Jaeyun @jaeyunssim_
: for someone who has beautiful lips, you sure do frown a lot.
Not to be the annoying man he is, but Sunghoon frowns more. He side eyes Jaeyun, his hand gripping tighter on the small gadget, and sees the boy looking down on his own phone screen with a grin so wide it could surpass the sun– what the fuck?
“Sunghoon Park!” He jumped when the professor called him, “What is the law of attraction?”
He shuts his eyes, biting his lip as he looks away scrambling for an answer. The law of what now? He internally bonks himself for letting his body sway with the alcohol last night instead of actually dipping his head in philosophy books. Now, the consequences are facing him and he feels the regret piling up his throat.
“Law of attraction.. uhm.. It’s a law…” He stammers and trails off, trying to bite back a scream of help struggling to keep off his lips. Fuck, I don’t know what to say!
“Jaeyun Sim, yes! Sunghoon, sit down.” The professor calls, making Sunghoon frown in his place. Lo and behold, the ever so bright and intelligent Jaeyun Sim had raised his hand and stole whatever spotlight Sunghoon was in. If he hadn’t known any better, he would’ve thought that Jaeyun purposely did it to save him from embarrassment.
But he is Jaeyun Sim. Jaeyun Sim who’s Sunghoon’s self proclaimed rival. He can’t do that. He wouldn’t do that especially for him.
“The law of attraction is a philosophy that suggests that we attract what our energy processes into thoughts. For example, thinking of positive things will take you to positive opportunities whereas negative thoughts bring you to negative things.” Jake explains with ease, “Some advocates suggest that there are universal princi—“
“There are universal principles that make up the law of attraction,” Sunghoon cuts him off as he picks up on what he’s trying to say. Giving him a sly glance, he sees Jaeyun’s mouth agape— a gesture that he knows that symbolises that maybe he won, “Those are: like attracts like, nature abhors a vacuum and the present is always perfect.”
“Good answer. You two may sit down.” They claim their seats once again, eyes meeting even from across the room. Sunghoon grits his teeth, extremely annoyed that Jaeyun had yet attempted to take away his spotlight once again. It’s ridiculous how he always manages to make it look like he deserves to be outshined, and it’s even more ridiculous that Sunghoon can’t do anything about it.
He glances at Jaeyun once more, a bit surprised now that he sees that the other boy was already looking. He tries to hide his shock with a frown, but he concludes that he failed to do so when Jaeyun gives him another shit eating grin as he waves. Sunghoon gave him a dirty finger as a reply.
One thing Sunghoon liked about lunch was the fact that he could get away from Jaeyun as far as he can even for only an hour and thirty minutes. For someone who absolutely loathes someone who was always up in his business, it’s good enough to actually have time for yourself.
He sits at their usual table by the corner of the cafeteria, jotting down a quick text to Sunoo and Jungwon who both cheerfully replied that they’ll be there in approximately five minutes. From where Sunghoon is sitting, he could see the lunch menu plastered on the screen. Mac and cheese, a glazed donut and a free apple along with some Coke. He sighs, the only thing seemingly enticing his appetite was the glazed donut– which he would only get one out of a hundred.
“What’s with the frown?” He looks up and smiles when he sees Sunoo. The younger one sat in front of him, placing down a book and a piece of paper which made Sunghoon laugh, “It’s due in an hour. Don’t laugh!”
“The menu sucks. Can you give me your glazed donut in exchange for me writing down that assignment for you?” Sunoo slaps him and shouts a firm ‘no way!’, earning a bark of laughter from Sunghoon, “Where’s Jungwon anyway?”
“With his annoying boyfriend,” Sunoo says nonchalantly. He pauses and laughs, “The annoying thing is with a positive tone indicator.”
Sunghoon shakes his head, gaze leaving Sunoo to leave him focusing on his deadly assignment. He roams his eyes within the area, looking specifically for nothing. He thinks Jungwon and Jay probably went out for lunch, maybe snuck out through the wall behind the school where he once caught them.
He hears familiar laughter, his head naturally whipping to where it’s coming from. He furrowed his eyebrows when he saw Jungwon by one of the tables, laughing with his boyfriend. He also notices Heeseung and Ni-ki, two more of Jay’s friends, talking to each other beside the couple.
If the three of them are here.. then that means.. Sunghoon’s lips part when he sees a lean figure walking towards the table. It would’ve been easy to ignore and go on with his day if the man who identifies as yet again Sim Jaeyun wasn’t staring at him like some creep.
He raises his brow at Jake, eyeing him up and down as if asking. Jaeyun laughs, licking his lips before shaking his head, placing his tray down before talking to Jungwon. Sunghoon took it as a sign to stop looking and face his best friend who was now cradling his head in his hands.
“Isn’t that Jungwon over there?” Sunoo looks up to where Sunghoon pointed, nodding begrudgingly before looking down again with a pout, “Are you okay?”
“This is too hard!” Sunoo groans, “Fix yourself. He’s coming.”
“Who?”
“Hey.”
Sunghoon stills. He knows that voice. Looking up from where he was sitting, he sees Jaeyun standing beside him, his friends and Jungwon following suit. He groans and looks away, disappointed that he can’t have lunch without coming across Jaeyun. It’s a bad day, I guess.
He felt the seat beside him sink and it was enough to tell from the scent of Chanel Coco Noir that it was Jake. From the get go ever since they met, the older boy always wore the perfume. Sunghoon frowns.
“What are you doing?” He asks, “Stay away from me.”
“What? You have Jake allergy?” Jaeyun teases.
“If it was real, I’d be the first person to catch it.” Sunghoon says, taking in the last piece of his glazed donut. Now, he’s even more pissed. Who the fuck gives one donut to a growing teenager? “Sunoo, can you give me your donut?”
“Fucker, no way!” Sunoo exclaims from his seat.
He does a little celebratory dance inside him when he feels Jake leave the seat. Almost immediately, he pulled Jungwon down so he could occupy the seat next to him, “Jungwon, why are you here?”
Jungwon laughs, “Am I forbidden here now?”
He groans, feeling the urge to vanish in thin air so he could avoid Jake’s existence, “No! You see, when you come here with Jay, his friends automatically follow. You know who’s his friend? Jake! My rival!”
Before Jungwon can answer, Sunghoon feels a finger poking him. Turning around, he’s met face to face with… a glazed donut?
Jake managed to put the pastry on Sunghoon’s hands, the younger one left with no choice but to hold on to the appetising donut. He frowns deeper, “What is this?”
“You said you wanted a donut.” Jake nonchalantly says as if he and Sunghoon are on good terms. Sunghoon scoffs before pushing the donut back to him, “I don’t want it. It has a bite!”
The feigning annoyance in Sunghoon just grows more when Jake grins like an absolute fool. Words can’t simply stress how annoyed he was, and he was sure that Jake is annoyed as well. He could see the way the other boy clenches his fist as if running out of patience, but unlike Sunghoon, Jake manages to keep it in.
“Why do you act as if we haven’t shared saliva before?” Jake leans closer, “We’ve kissed , babe.”
Sunghoon saw red . It’s a foolish act run by a foolish mind, but it seems like he was a kettle filled with water and suddenly it boiled. It boiled so much that he needed an outlet.
He swung his arm, the hand that was once holding a glazed donut is now curled up tight, knuckles meeting the caramel skin of Jake. He hears the echoes of the gasps, probably from their friends, but he was too intense to even comprehend what he’s doing. The next thing he knows is there’s a pair of arms holding him back.
“What the fuck?” It was Jay. His jaw is clenched, fighting the urge to scold Sunghoon for the sake of his boyfriend. He put distance in between the two boys, body fully turned to the one who threw the punch, “Calm down!”
“Jake, are you okay?” He peeks from behind Jay and sees Jake slumped on the ground, a bruise forming by the side of his lips. Heeseung and Ni-ki quickly aid him, helping him pick himself up from the ground.
Jake hauls himself up, eyes immediately meeting him. Sunghoon took a step back, the sudden thought of what he did clouding his mind. Jake’s eyes were painted in rage.. but it wasn’t completely rage. More like rage and disappointment . Sunghoon’s heart dropped.
They left quickly. All that’s left was Sunoo, Jungwon and him. People are looking again, scared of the situation but at the same time amused. Because how could two people go from kissing each other to punching in a span of 24 hours?
“Why did you do that?” Sunoo was first to ask, “He didn’t do anything wrong, right?”
“I’m sorry..” Sunghoon lowers his head in shame, “I was so annoyed..”
“An apology without him here? Great.” Jungwon pats him, “Let’s go to Yeonjun’s party later. He’ll be there, do what you need to do by then.”
Sunghoon had other things to do such as pending school stuff. He checks his calendar and sighs in relief when he finds out none is due by tomorrow, almost all of it are due the following week. Sunghoon, being the guy he is, is the type to avoid cramming. But he can’t stand anyone having lingering rage for him even if it was the person he hates the most. He has to meet Jake later. No buts or ifs.
That night, Sunoo and Jungwon– like the inseparable duo they are –picks Sunghoon up from his dorm. The duo materialised in front of him wearing the most extravagant outfits that Sunghoon wouldn't see on them on usual days. Sunoo’s wearing a loose white button down polo shirt with statements messily written on it paired with tight leather pants, bringing out the beauty in him. Jungwon is wearing a black and white turtleneck under a black statement shirt with lewd words finished with a black vest. Sunghoon looks at his own outfit.
“Is my outfit fine?” He asks while inspecting himself in front of the mirror. He’s wearing a plain white shirt under a black coat and leather pants. Glimmering jewellery were littered all over his body, from round silver rings, chain necklaces to enticing piercings and pins attached to his outfit. Sunoo nods enthusiastically at him.
“Yes!” Sunoo exclaims, “Pretty simple but hey, simple is your style.”
“To be honest,” Jungwon smiles from behind them, “You look like you’re not about to just apologise.”
Sunghoon raises his brow at him, lowkey getting what Jungwon is trying to say. He frowns, raising a pointy middle finger at him. Jungwon claps his hands while laughing when he notices the black nail polish beautifully painted on Sunghoon’s nails.
“ Definitely not going to just apologise!” Jungwon chuckles.
“Jungwon, maybe that is just his way of apologising, you know?” Sunoo teases, draping his arms around Sunghoon’s shoulder as he drags Sunghoon out of the room before he changes his mind about going.
Oh god.
Oh god.
Someone please remind Sunghoon to never trust his friends again.
The 3 years of friendship instantly went down the drain when Sunghoon realised the situation he’s put in. With shaking eyes and clenching fists, he shuts his eyes and avoids Sunoo and Jungwon.
So much for a fucking party.
This, presented in front of him, looks nothing like a party. In fact, he doubts if this is even Yeonjun Choi’s house. For the record, Sunghoon expected something quite the complete opposite of this.
He expected booming lights, messy backyards, and swarms of people dancing.
Not this eerily quiet atmosphere surrounding a two-storey house that seems too cosy for Sunghoon. There were no signs of a party being implemented even if he checks through the windows.
Sunghoon turns to his friends, quite not surprised by their outfit change. The extravagant outfits were long gone, now replaced with something comfortable and light. While he, who glammed up for this beautiful occasion, is stuck with his black and white clothes and painted nails.
“Nice outfit you got there.” Sunoo laughs, “Sorry, Sunghoon. We needed to do this.”
“Yeah right, fucker.” Sunghoon rolls his eyes and follows Jungwon who takes confident steps towards the door, knocking on it with ease, “Be thankful I don’t have any other choice.”
The door opens before them, a toothy smile from Heeseung greeting them. Heeseung’s eyes went from Jungwon, to Sunoo and to him. When the redhead’s eyes trained on him, he visibly chuckled, “Nice outfit. Perfect for a friendly dinner!”
A what ? A dinner? With who ? Heeseung Lee?
Sunghoon steps inside the house, relishing the feeling of his feet in contact with the warm carpet that welcomes him. He looks around the house filled with red and brown accents all throughout. The inside radiates what Sunghoon had expected from the start: comfort. It’s so warm and settled that Sunghoon can’t help but want to lie down.
Whose house is this anyway?
“Heeseung, did you get the door? Jay, please check the fucking food. Ni-ki, how many times do I have to tell you to stop running around? If you break one of Mom’s vases, you’re dead!” A voice echoes from upstairs, so familiar that Sunghoon’s face automatically morphed in a bewildered expression.
What. The. Fuck.
Is this Jaeyun’s house?
“Ni-ki, for fuck’s sake! Heeseung, where are you– oh.” Jaeyun stops in front of them, clad in a cream colored Essentials hoodie and black shorts. Really an outfit for someone who owns the house. He looks at the newcomers for a brief moment, not sparing Sunghoon a glance. His lips were still bruised, once again reminding Sunghoon on why he’s here in the first place, “Come in. I didn’t know we had more guests over.”
Jungwon attaches himself out of them, quickly attending to his boyfriend who’s cooking by the kitchen. The smell of roasted chicken and java rice being cooked envelops his olfactory senses, sending signals to his growling stomach.
“Sunoo,” Sunghoon silently calls when they are left alone, “Do you not have spare clothes with you? I’m not kidding when I say this outfit is uncomfortable when not at a party.”
Sunoo laughs nervously, “Sorry, I don’t.”
“What do you need?” Ni-ki butts in, “Spare clothes? Jaeyun has some. It’s his house after all.”
“What?!” Sunghoon stood up, trying to stop the kid but he already had arms all over Jaeyun, whispering something. Jaeyun turns to him and scans his outfit from head to toe. Sunghoon felt small, something inside of him fluttered.
“You can borrow mine.” Jaeyun says, “Follow me.”
Sunghoon, feeling defeated, huffs out a breath and sent a dirty finger towards Sunoo before following Jaeyun upstairs. The second floor of the house felt relatively empty, no signs of anyone else so he assumes that Jaeyun lives alone. Jaeyun opens a blue door and goes inside, leaving Sunghoon by the doorstep.
“What?” Jaeyun asks, “You won’t be able to put my clothes on if you just stand there.”
Sunghoon absolutely hates the feeling of being ordered around, especially if it was by Jaeyun of all people. He clicks his tongue and steps inside, the tension in the room thickening a bit more. He remembers when Jungwon told him once ‘what you and jaeyun have isn’t hate. it’s called tension. sexual tension to be quite exact.’ and Sunghoon hasn’t been the same since.
He watches quietly as Jaeyun rummages through his closet, then 5 seconds later he resurfaces with a black hoodie with the letter A with a heart on top seamed on it. Sunghoon’s positive that he’s seen Jaeyun wear this once.
“This is one of my hoodies,” He hands it to him, “You can put this on. As per your accessories,” He eyes the necklaces and rings, also the painted nails, “You can leave it here for a while.”
Jaeyun motions him to the bathroom where he can change, and Sunghoon obediently follows suit. He takes his time there, getting out of his clothes carefully. He leaves the white shirt underneath and slips on the hoodie that surprisingly fits him too well as if it’s made for him. He pushes the door open and he sees Jaeyun sitting by the bed.
It was an odd scene. Him going out of the Jaeyun Sim’s bathroom, clad in one of his hoodies while the aforementioned boy waits for him by the bed. It feels too unreal, it feels like this is something that was never meant to happen but it still happened–and it’s unbelievably fine .
He stares at Jaeyun who had managed to meet his eyes once he became aware of his presence.
Sunghoon stares and stares, mind flicking back to a very similar scene. One that he didn’t really want to talk about nor even remember. The ridiculous feeling bubbling up his stomach as he transports back to that time.
Wild. Free. Shining. Loud.
Sunghoon thought he deserved this. Whatever the fuck he’s doing, he deserved it all. After a depressing finals week chasing him like a bull running after a red piece of cloth, Sunghoon concludes that that was single handedly the worst week of his life.
Piling papers, pens running out of ink, hours spent numbing his ass in libraries, dim lights illuminating on his sleep deprived face had completely made its own space in Sunghoon’s lifestyle, leaving him with no choice but to live with it.
It was a Friday night. Perfect for every student to let go and live, before the weekends pass by like a blur and then it’s Monday again. Sunoo fortunately did not give up that Friday night until he got Sunghoon up on his feet, clad in neon bright clothes with black accents to tone it down, and they drove to one of the senior’s houses where the party was held.
“So what I’m gonna need you to do,” Sunoo turned to him when they reached the front door, “Is to live and have fun. Okay?”
Sunghoon scoffed, “I wouldn’t be here if I didn't want to have fun, Sunoo.”
From the get go, the house didn’t look like a house . It looked like a fucking space for students to live as growing teenagers again. Rolls of tissue paper were scattered all across the backyard, smoke emitted from god knows where— Sunghoon didn’t even want to know what the smoke was —and the whole house was practically vibrating, as if the speakers for the music were directly implanted on the ground.
He and Sunoo met Jungwon by the corner, pressed up against Jay as if the space was cramped. Jungwon beamed at the sight of his friends, easily getting out of Jay’s hold. He straightened his crinkled shirt but albeitly failed to do so, but they paid no mind.
“Hey! You made it!” He greeted, “Sorry, I had to go here first.”
“Hello, I had to steal Jungwon a little bit earlier than intended..” Jay spoke, materializing from behind Jungwon, “Just.. boyfriend things.”
“No worries, you can take Jungwon whenever you want.” Sunoo laughed.
“Right, we don’t really care.” Sunghoon teased more, earning a sharp slap from Jungwon himself.
Sunghoon laughed, feeling the energy and spirit rile him up even more. The night was just starting to feel a bit more alive, he couldn't help but itch to throw away everything and face the things this moonlight has for him.
“Hey, uh..” Sunghoon pointed at the drink stations, “I’m gonna go grab myself a drink. I’ll just message you guys if I need something, yeah?”
With an enthusiastic nod from his peers, he left. Making his way through the pool of bodies, he found students from his University who knew him— one of them being Beomgyu Choi.
“Oh?“ An arm stopped Sunghoon, “Park, is that you?”
Sunghoon fist bumped him, glad that he had found a colleague of his he hadn't quite met due to hell week. Beomgyu threw him a sly smile, nudging him with his arm. Sunghoon noticed some of his hair clung on his forehead, so he concluded that Beomgyu was indeed drunk , judging by the syllables in his words getting dragged longer and longer as time goes by.
“Aye..” Beomgyu leaned in and whispered in his ear, “Are you looking for him ?”
“Huh?” Sunghoon moved away, whispering apologies to the people he bumped, “Who is ‘him’ ?”
Beomgyu laughed loudly, “You know who.”
Oh, he knew. In fact, he’s deeply aware of who Beomgyu was talking about. He doesn’t know why he’s being linked to Jake of all people. Do they find underlying love in furious stares across the school hallways? Do they think that the red tints of blush on their faces are out of fondness and not anger? Beomgyu is insane , Sunghoon thought.
“I am not looking for him, Choi.” Sunghoon scrunched his nose, “In fact, I’m here to have fun by myself. Please excuse me.”
He managed to free himself from the dark dens of Beomgyu Choi, a sigh of relief escaped his lips when he reached the drink station.
Rows of colorful liquid presented itself in front of him, he felt his mouth water in delight. It’s been so long, fuck . He doesn’t waste his time at all, immediately filling his cup with whatever he thought was delicious.
“Woah, going all out?” A voice from beside him spoke. Sunghoon turned around only to see Jake holding a fucking muddler. He stared at it, thousands of questions flooded his mind as to why he’s holding a muddler. Jake seemed to notice so he laughed languidly, “Oh, I’m trying bartending. Cool, right?”
“Totally not.” Sunghoon replied immediately, “For tonight, please get out of my line of vision. I’m having way too much fun for you to only ruin it with your existence and little cocktails.”
“The night is young, Park. Why don’t you chill?” Jake walked towards him, “Want me to pour you a drink?”
“There’s a bar knife an arm’s length away from me, Sim.” Sunghoon informed, “What if I grab it and threaten you with it?”
“That’s very hot of you, murder instincts and all but please don’t do it.” Jake settled behind the drink station, even managing to tie up a black apron around his cinched waist, “What drink do you want? Rum? Cognac? Vodka?”
“Vodka sounds nice.” Sunghoon tried to test out Jake Sim’s skills, sitting down on the stool directly in front, “But I think I’ll get wasted.”
“Isn’t that the goal?” The older boy grinned, “I’ll get you wasted.”
“You’re my fucking rival..” Sunghoon watched him pour vodka, “I wouldn’t want you to get me wasted.”
“You make it sound like I’m gonna murder you or something.” Jake placed the drink in front of him, “Your vodka, Sir.”
Sunghoon inspected it for a good 10 seconds making Jake groan. He laughed, downing the glass in one go. The liquid washed down his throat, the bitter taste slicing through his soul that made him wince.
“Fucking hell,” Sunghoon gushes as he slams the glass back down, “That was fucking awesome I need more.”
Jaeyun took the glass back in his hands and silently poured more with a toothy grin. He downs the liquid himself, mirroring Sunghoon’s expressions earlier.
“That’s about it, I’m out of here.” Sunghoon stood up and prepared to leave, looking at Jaeyun with a frown, “I still fucking hate you. I hope you fall on your ass.”
Jaeyun barked up a laugh, tender to the ears that it failed to escape Sunghoon’s ears. Sunghoon thought about how extremely cruel it was to let the most annoying man to ever grace his life to have seemingly one of the purest laughs he had ever heard. It’s unfair and Sunghoon would really want to rip the grin off of Jaeyun’s face.
The moment he left, he was instantly pulled into a game of beer pong. Safe to say he failed miserably, because unfortunately he only ever excels in academics. The students jokingly shooed him away, taking the ping pong balls away from his hold to save off any embarrassment that was bound to happen.
He chugs down two more full cups of liquid, mind too hazy to even distinguish what kind of liquor it was. All he knew was it tasted like heaven and felt like hell. He had long lost his friends, and all he could do was to silently pray that he’ll get home safely tonight. Or maybe result in sleeping in one of the empty bedrooms in this house.
“Gather up, bitches!” It was Karina’s voice, Sunghoon managed to absorb, “We’re doing body shots! Whoever doesn’t participate is a fucking sore loser!”
Really, Sunghoon was okay with being called a fucking sore loser . If he was sane, he was okay with it.
But with the sight of Jaeyun walking up to the crowd with a lazy grin while his mind was going haywire, Sunghoon could only do so much.
“Okay, hahaha!” Karina laughed like a maniac, “Little game twist? Spin the bottle with this baby. The one at the pointy end is the one licking!”
This spin the bottle game is kind of tricky. Due to everyone drunk already, they all settled on doing it standing up. Karina made the effort on bending down and spinning the bottle after shouting ‘for the gays!’ which totally made sense. The crowd around her cheered, the insane hype for a single game too much.
The bottle stopped, and Sunghoon couldn’t stop laughing when the pointy end was pointing towards Jungwon. The blunt end was darting towards Jay who just got back from refilling his cup.
“Jungwon, go get that body shot!” Jungwon visibly blushed, pulling Jay so they could get this done. Jungwon spreads salt on Jay’s wrist, pursed lips in embarrassment. He takes a small shot of tequila and a slice of lemon, downing the liquid quickly and sucking the life out of the fruit. And then, he dips his head down to Jay’s wrist and licks the salt off of it, making the audience roar . Jay stood still, looking away from his boyfriend who’s as red as a tomato.
After it, Jungwon hung his head low in embarrassment. Jay laughed languidly before hugging him as he pressed a kiss on the crown of Jungwon’s head.
The game continued after. Sunghoon was so close to dying of boredom. Karina and Minjeong, Beomgyu and Taehyun, hell even the famous Yeji and Ryujin already went. What is it that the bottle was not pointing at him?
He groaned when the bottle stopped at another person. He looked up, taking a big gulp out of his worn out cup when he caught Jaeyun looking at him from the other side of the circle. He raised his eyebrows, confidence reeling in him that he failed to notice Karina spin the bottle again.
“Oh!” Karina screeched, “Jaeyun Sim and Sunghoon Park?!”
Sunghoon snapped out of his thoughts, breaking the staring contest he had with Jaeyun when he heard their names. What?
“The one who will be licking is Jaeyun Sim.” Karina glanced at the both of them, “This is going to be so fun.”
Sunghoon took a step back. Suddenly, the alcohol in his system seemed to fade away, leaving him in full awareness of what’s happening. Jaeyun took steps towards him and he buckled, trying to find an escape route when he felt arms stopping him.
“What the fuck?” Sunghoon said, “We can’t do this.”
Jaeyun stands in front of him proudly with a smug grin, “Why not?”
“You know why.” He scoffs, “We hate each other.”
“That doesn’t forbid me to lick off of your neck, right?” Jaeyun lifts his hand up, fingers painted with precious salt, “May I, Park?”
Sunghoon’s breath hitches when Jaeyun’s cold digits touched his bare neck. He could have retaliated and ask Jaeyun to lick off of his wrist instead just like Jungwon’s, but something held him back. And he didn’t question what.
The salt spread evenly by the bottom of his jaw where his neck was beautifully laid out in front of Jaeyun. The older boy takes a shot of tequila and a slice of lemon as usual. He stares at Sunghoon when he downed that shot, he continues to stare even when his gorgeous lips sucked on that single slice of lemon, and until he was close enough to pry his eyes off of Sunghoon.
Sunghoon craned his neck to let Jaeyun do it , just so it could be done quickly. He felt it when Jaeyun’s lips first pressed against his skin. It burned. Jaeyun kissed it, so tender and quiet that he’s sure no one even noticed it. And then there it was, the tongue of fire.
The older boy licks a long stripe, the rocks of salt easily replaced by heat from Jaeyun’s tongue. Sunghoon bit his lips and shuts his eyes, fists clenched on his sides as he breathes heavily. He felt the heat go when Jaeyun pulled away, the remnants of his tongue on his neck still evident by the way he was grinning.
“Delicious.” Jaeyun licks his lips before smirking at Karina, “Done.”
With burning cheeks, Sunghoon laughed and excused himself from the crowd. He could hear their cheers and laughs, probably because they simply cannot comprehend that he and Jaeyun Sim just did a fucking body shot in front of them.
He snatched a new red cup, filling it to the brim before chugging it down. This day was for him, and no body shots and no Jaeyun could ever bring it down nor ruin it. He feels liquid trickle down his neck the same time he feels his sober self slip away from him, replacing his soul with a floating mind and a heavy body.
One thing Sunghoon was sure of, is that he was nowhere near sober for the next 15 minutes. The world is spinning before him, and if he didn’t know any better he’d think it was normal. It was as if his body water was now completely replaced by alcohol.
“Good fuck,” A voice from behind him spoke, “You really getting into it, huh?”
He turned around and let out a loud groan. Why is it that Jaeyun is always around him? Is he doing this on purpose?
“You again?” Sunghoon stared down at Jaeyun’s eyes. He noticed its lack of focus, meaning that Jaeyun was probably as hazy as him. The red blush on Sunghoon’s cheeks brightened more when he remembered Jaeyun’s tongue. How would it feel against his . What?
Sunghoon gulped and looked away, smacking his head to pry off unwanted thoughts. Jaeyun got a little brave at the sight of his flustered face so he confidently grabs Sunhoon by the waist, pulling him closer.
The yelp that pierced through Sunghoon was low, but he felt as though the whole school community were now watching the situation unfold. He thought he should get out of Jaeyun’s hold and walk away with his pretty little red cup. But it seemed that at that moment, his body had a mind of its own, completely throwing away any of his dignity and pride left in him.
“What are you doing?” Sunghoon whispered, wary of the distance between them. His eyes travel down Jaeyun’s face, from his eyes that surprisingly focused on him, to his tall nose painted with a tint of red, to his lips that illuminated the gloss of the moonlight glow, “Let go of me.”
“Your body says otherwise though?” Jaeyun smirks. It was right then and there that Sunghoon noticed his hands gripping Jaeyun’s shoulders tightly.
“Sunghoon,” Jaeyun called, “Would you get angry if I kiss you right now?”
The space between them is suddenly cramped, and everything just seems too real and too much for Sunghoon. He could feel his senses activate, and now he could smell the smoke from god knows what, he could see the people staring at them, could feel Jaeyun’s grip on him get tighter.
“But..” Sunghoon trails.
Just at that moment, a presence passed by them and gave them an exhausted look. Park Jongseong.
Sunghoon felt a hand behind his back, pushing him roughly forward making him stumble closer to Jaeyun. Both of Jaeyun’s arms immediately made their way to Sunghoon’s waist and small of his back, Sunghoon’s hooked around Jaeyun’s. The red cup on Sunghoon’s hold now a prop for the situation, the poor object now long forgotten.
To whoever pushed me, fuck you sincerely. Sunghoon thought.
“Sunghoon..” Jaeyun called once again.
Without anything in mind, completely letting the power of desire and alcohol drip on his whole being, Sunghoon leaned down and captured those lips he so badly wanted since the start. He hated to admit it to himself, but Jaeyun’s lips tasted just as good as it looks, hell, maybe even better.
For a moment, Jaeyun stilled. Until he got a good grip of what Sunghoon just did, he didn’t waste time pulling him impossibly closer by the waist, tilting his head to the side to kiss Sunghoon better. He strided forward, pushing Sunghoon against the wall as he nipped on his bottom lip. He gripped Sunghoon’s waist, earning a gasp from the younger boy, allowing him access to swipe his tongue inside.
If Sunghoon’s eyes weren't closed, he would’ve rolled it back by how good that tongue of fire felt. He tasted the strong feeling of mixed liquor from Jaeyun’s tongue, and he was positive that’s how he tasted too.
When they pulled away, it was then that they registered the cheers and audible gasps from the people around them. But Sunghoon was too drunk to care. All that mattered was Jaeyun and his pretty lips.
The next morning, they’re all over Twitter.
“Sunghoon?” He snaps out of his trance when Jaeyun calls him. He’s reminded again that they are in his house, he’s in his clothes and he’s in front of him, “Let’s go? The hoodie looks good on you..”
“I’m sorry.” He blurts out. Shit, that wasn’t planned.
“What?” Jaeyun sys, startled, “Why?”
“For everything I should be sorry for.” He doesn’t know what he’s saying and why he’s pouring his heart out in Jaeyun’s bedroom, “The banters, the stinky eyes, the punch… the kiss.”
Jaeyun stands up abruptly and takes confident strides towards him. He stops in front of Sunghoon, and even though Jaeyun’s shorter than him, he still feels like he’s bigger, “The kiss? Why are you apologising for the kiss?”
“I feel like I should..” Sunghoon whispers, cheeks burning at the invasion of personal space. His heart is beating too fast, and he asks himself if it’s because of his jealousy and hatred for the Sim acting out or is it something else? Something more out of reach, or maybe that something was within reach that he just couldn’t grab it and run?
Jaeyun grabs his waist, pulling him close and Sunghoon can feel his breath. It smells like mint, “Do you regret it?”
Kissing you? No. Doing it while we’re drunk? No. For the things I did after the kiss? Yes.
“No.” He answers firmly, “Not at all.”
He’s embarrassed. To be realising it this late. To be admitting that he enjoyed every single bit of it, and that his actions after were just him projecting his hatred for himself. It’s embarrassing.
“Then why apologise, baby?” Jaeyun smiles.
“I did so many things to you. I even punched you in the face so how do I not apollo–” He wasn’t able to complete his sentence when Jaeyun pulled him and pressed their lips together. It was not like the one they shared that night, this time, it’s gentle and kind. Jaeyun is taking his time, hands on Sunghoon’s waist as he pushes him again against the wall. Sunghoon kisses back immediately, his arms instinctively wrapping around Jaeyun’s neck.
Sober kisses, sober grips. It’s more beautiful this way.
Jaeyun’s kisses went from his lips, down to his jaw and onto his neck. Sunghoon gasps, the feeling quite new to him when Jaeyun bites down and sucks. He cranes his neck for more access and his hand flimsily grabbing Jaeyun’s neck while the other accidentally knocks one of Jaeyun’s figurines by the table beside them.
“Oh shit!” Sunghoon pushes him away and looks at the figurine. He looks at it and winces when he notices it’s broken. Looking at Jaeyun with a guilty expression, he fumbles with his hands, “Sorry.”
Silence. One.. two.. three. Then Jaeyun barks out a laugh so loud that it confuses Sunghoon. His pretty teeth were shining and his cupid lips were stretched out to a wide smile, all the while his eyes were trained on Sunghoon. The younger boy blushes and soon follows suit, laughing at god knows what.
“Oh god..” Jaeyun approaches him again and presses a kiss on Sunghoon’s hand, “You’re insane.”
Sunghoon smiles, pulling the both of them out of the room before anything more happens. They go down together, the ghost of smiles on their knowing lips and they meet their friends. The five of them are now seated on the table, food looking scrumptious and ready to be feasted on. Jungwon raises his brow towards Sunghoon who only looks away, whereas Heeseung pats Jaeyun’s back with a smile. If any of their friends noticed the glances throughout dinner, they didn’t say anything.
Before they left after dinner, Sunghoon hands Jaeyun his earrings.
“Why are you giving me this?” Jaeyun asks, inspecting the earrings carefully.
“Find out.”
Sunghoon lays in bed that night, reminiscing about everything that happened over dinner.
He hears his phone ding so he picks it up, lips stretching out to a smile immediately when he sees Jaeyun’s name.
With a click, he transports to their conversation and he sees the last two messages before now to which he refused to reply back then so he laughs out loud. Checking the new message, he hides his face in a pillow and screams.
