Summary:

maybe his love for you was only temporary.

Chapter 1: Luke Pearce

Chapter Text

You knew he was Rosa’s childhood best friend - he was very enthusiastic about sharing their experiences together with you. He had to leave her side, 8 years was a very long time - and in that duration, you coincidentally fell in love. When they met again in Stellis, you were glad to see him smiling so large, you understood - he just found his closest friend of many years, who wouldn’t be happy to reunite with such?

Occasionally, he’d miss date nights or scheduled hangouts. Luke would answer your messages by catching up with Rosa <3! You’d scoff and turn off your cellular phone, it was only for a short while - after all it had been years since they properly hung out, it was only right for them to have time for each other. But he was doing this continuously that you didn’t even know if his excuses were credible anymore.

The bed felt cool beneath your fingertips, Luke still hadn’t come home and this was the 2nd week he’d been MIA, you wondered if things were getting busier at work, maybe he had a special investigation ongoing? You check your phone once more and see a familiar notification, it was blinking red as you opened the application - his location out like a sore thumb.

He suggested this app was installed on your phone in case of any emergency and it seemed as if it worked well even today. Sighing, you went ahead into his location - the chestnut coat with his fragrance comforts you as you walk by the serene pavement. Nearing the address, your heart rate picks up - it felt unusual but there was a pit in your stomach as you approached the door of the quaint house.

There were lights still on so you assumed somebody was awake, and when you place your fist by the door - it creaks open. You walked inside and hoped you weren’t intruding, you followed the light spilling from one of the rooms and the sight that awaits you wasn’t meant for your eyes.

Rosa was crying on your boyfriend’s shoulder, while he was whispering into her ear - his voice was faint and was covered up by the slight noises of the breeze coming from the open window. Judging from the brunette’s appearance, she had just gotten out of the shower and the more you hid from their presence - the more you heard what they were saying. Their conversation was fine, good ol’ reminiscing of the past but what scares you was the sudden quiet that engulfs the space. Your heartbeat beats loudly against your chest as you peek into the room-

Oh.

Luke was holding onto her waist tightly as if the gusts of wind would pry her away from his grasp - Rosa had wrapped her arms around his neck like she was afraid to be swept away from his embrace. She was straddling him and they were… kissing.

As if they were soulmates who’d exceeded the timeline and met once more this lifetime. The way your boyfriend was holding his best friend so snug in his embrace - suffocates you more than it should have. Tears had blinded your vision and slowly you walked away from the scene, you were glad to keep your sobs in until you were outside the house.

You knew his feelings were stronger for Rosa than it was for you.

Maybe you were only meant to be a rebound.
