Work Text:
With a loud sneeze that shakes your whole body, you startle Yuta out of his train of thoughts. He shoots you a surprised look and you rub your neck in embarrassment, before muttering an apology.
“It’s fine,” he shakes his head, scrutinizing your form next to him with a worried look, “You should have worn a warmer jacket.”
“Oh, you worry too much. It’s fine, we won’t have to wait too long. The others will be done soon,” you reply, kicking at a rock that’s laying on the ground right in front of you, as you.
The both of you decided to take a walk through the park, while your friends finished their shopping spree.
Once again they all had procrastinated on buying Christmas presents, just like they did in your first year together at school.
You even went ahead and sent them a reminder via group chat two weeks ago, but it seems they went ahead and completely overlooked that.
It’s quiet. Sitting on a bench, you calmly look around.
The usually well-visited park was empty on this December evening. No wonder – it was already dark outside, the ground was slightly frozen and thus slippery, and most importantly:
It was freezing cold.
Not anticipating just how long you’d be out and about and definitely not anticipating just how cold it would get, you’d only worn a jacket. No hat, no scarf, no gloves.
Yet, you didn’t want to worry the boy next to you, so you just smiled at him amicably. Yuta looked at you for a little while, his gaze soft and affectionate, before he opens his mouth to say something.
“Hey, you guys! We’re done with Christmas shopping” Let’s go!”
Just like that, you turn your head away from Yuta and towards where Panda’s voice came from. There they are, a little further away.
You can see Toge wave his hands up in the air so the both of you will be able to see where the three of them are standing.
As if it’s hard to miss the only people who are here, beside you. Especially when Panda is accompanying Maki and Toge.
You can see Maki talking to him before he lowers his arms and sticks his tongue out at her. Ah. She probably just told him the same thing you were thinking.
A giggle leaves your lips and you stand up, offering Yuta a hand. Giving you a soft smile, he takes your hand, flinching at how cold it feels against his own, warm one.
As you move to walk towards the others, who have already started to walk home as soon as they saw the both of you standing up, you feel Yuta’s fingers slipping between your own.
His hands are calloused but warm and the only thing that’s cold at this very moment is the metal of his ring against your skin.
Nonchalantly and in a very natural way, he puts your intertwined hands in the pocket of his thick coat, giving you a gentle smile.
It’s so sweet and the way his attention is focused on you sends heat up into your cheeks. His eyes shine with subtle joy as he pulls you along,
“Come on. It’s a bit warmer like this, right? Let’s walk like this until we’re back and then we can properly warm-up.”
Maybe it wasn’t that cold today after all.
