Chapter 1: Sleeptalking

Chapter Text

“Azusawa,” Touya says, eyes stuck to his notes. “Shiraishi is drooling on her textbook again.”

An, who has spent a majority of their study group clinging to Kohane’s side rather than studying, had put her forehead in the middle of her book to “take a quick break”... about twenty minutes ago. Evidently, Kohane should learn to think twice about letting An find anything that even vaguely resembles a pillow around exams.

The four of them have been in Weekend Garage the entire afternoon, and while she and Touya insisted on being as productive as possible, Akito’s witty remarks on just about anything and An’s insistence on refilling all of their drinks has turned the booth into more of a social snack bar than anything else. Still, Kohane can't deny that she enjoys being with them outside of performing as Vivid Bad SQUAD, having settled into their dynamic comfortably.

Akito stifles a laugh- or at least, tries to. “If she wants to take make-ups that badly, then let her,” he says, stretching his back.

Touya stares at him. Over time, Kohane’s been able to learn to read Touya’s expressions more and more accurately, and this one is definitely one of concern. He taps at Akito's books with a pen. “You’ll have to take make-up exams too if you don’t stop pretending to do your work.”

Tuning out their banter in favour of An, Kohane gently nudges her arms, careful not to accidentally tangle her hair. “An-chan, you really should get up.”

An responds with a noise of disagreement, eyebrows furrowing and eyes still closed. “...Kohane?” she murmurs, clearly still half-asleep.

“Yeah,” Kohane replies. She pinches An’s cheek, smiling at how An leans into her touch.

“Hngh….” An says, voice muffled by her textbook. “Kohane…. Really like you…”

Kohane freezes and feels her face flush. An’s back to nonsensical mumbling and grunts, but Kohane can’t stop replaying An’s voice. She’s sure she must be tomato red. “An-chan…” she sniffles, suddenly unable to even entertain the thought of trying to wake her up when she looks so peaceful asleep.

Across from them, Touya spares a sharp look, but eventually closes his notes and sighs. “Azusawa, we can wrap up here for today,” he says. “I finished most of the material, and whatever Akito doesn’t know I can teach him later.”

“Hey,” Akito grunts.

Kohane nods, holding onto An’s jacket sleeve. “Okay. Thank you, Aoyagi-kun.”

Touya leaves first, thanking the still-sleeping An for their drinks. Despite his earlier comments, Akito follows Touya rather excitedly, sticking close to his side.

All the better for Kohane, at least. She drapes her own jacket over An, in hopes that it can give her at least a little more comfort in the narrow booth. “Wake up soon, okay?” she says.

Letting out a soft snore, An’s nose scrunches. Kohane sneaks a quick kiss to her cheek before she returns to her work.
