Chapter Text
I hate mornings. If there was one thing that could leave me in a sour mood for hours, it was waking up before ten. But alas, as much as I wish I wasn’t, I was an adult with a job. And so my alarm went off, piercing my head like a thousand sharp needles in the worlds most fucked up sewing circle.
Needless to say, it wasn’t really my best mood that graced the world on February Nineteenth. I groaned as I sat up, and glared at my alarm clock, hoping I could cause it to shut off with new and suddenly evident psychic powers. It continued beeping, as if aware of my ire, and taking pleasure in my suffering.
The thing must have been broken; I had set it to go off at eight, not seven in the morning. That gave me a solid hour to wallow in misery before I had to put on a smile at my work.
Grumbling, I got out of bed. Might as well get an early start. I had a bad case of mucus too. My voice sounded deeper than normal. A few other things felt off, but I was too tired and my head felt like it was full of cotton. Need coffee.
I stumbled down the hall to the kitchen, and fumbled for a minute, before coffee was made. Insta-cups never failed me, and in five minutes time, I gulped down a cup of the most sacred of liquids.
There, now I could function. As I trudged to the bathroom, my mind began to clear, and one thought came to mind. This wasn’t my apartment. It had been similar enough, but the layout was different enough that I noticed. But I didn’t need to wonder for long, as once I entered the bathroom and faced the mirror, it finally clicked into place. This wasn’t my apartment, and it wasn’t Jake and Evan’s, or even Ben’s either. It wasn’t even in the same country. Not even the same universe likely.
Staring at me in the bathroom mirror, eye bags looking bas heavy as ever, purple hair floofing out like Einstein, was Hitoshi Shinso. I raised a hand, and he did too. I’ve…become Shinso?
This realization preceded a freak out that lasted about five minutes, before I finally calmed down, and thought things through. I was alone, and a short investigation showed a note on the dining room table.
Hi Honey!
Had to leave a bit early today, and that might be the new normal for a while. My job wants me to come in early for about a month. I trust you to get ready and make it to school on time, but let me know if anyone’s bullying you again. Do your best, especially with UA’s entrance exam in a week! You can do it honey, love you!
Mom <3
Well, some of my head canons were just proven wrong, but in this case, that’s a good thing. But now what? I was here, and didn’t know for how long, in a body that wasn’t mine, in the world of an anime I’d only half seen. Quite the pickle.
After some serious deliberation (and by that I mean five minutes staring blankly at a wall), I decided on a few things.
First: Screw canon, I was passing the entrance exam. How? Well, I’d figure something out.
Second: I was not an actor. It was hard for me to disguise my true intent, or my emotions. So why bother. I couldn’t act like Shinsou, so I wouldn’t. I would be myself, and if anyone asked, I’d write it off as teenage development.
As for the rest, I’d figure it out after I passed the entrance exam. Evan was the long-term planner, I liked to focus on one issue at a time. So I mused to myself as I got ready to go to Shinsou’s school as to the problem in front of me. I had one week.
Uniform? On. Breakfast? Made and eaten. The route to school? I managed to get Shinsou’s phone open (no idea how I guessed the password but hey) and found the route easily. So I opened the door and took a breath. Look out middle school, here I come.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
To say people were surprised was an understatement. My fellow students were flabbergasted (I love that word) to see me and how I acted. From what I was able to gather, Shinso tended to keep to himself, and that suited the rest of his classmates fine, as they were either scared of him or had a barely contained disdain for him. Sure there were a few okay people, but for the most part it seemed the kid I now inhabited the body of was not well liked (no wonder he seemed so jaded).
It must have caught all of them off guard for me to snark right back at them when they made veiled jabs, or outright start conversations I never would have before. Managed to make good with the few non trash people too, which surprised them.
Not a bad day, if I do say so myself. Walking out the door at the end of the day, I took a d3eep breath in. The air here felt different than in Chicago. Sure I loved that beautiful disaster of a city, but it didn’t have the same vibrant atmosphere that this version of Japan did. It was refreshing. I took my time walking home, just taking in the sights and sounds. Even managed to catch the tail end of a hero fight too. Still cool, even if it wasn’t the full fight.
Shinsou’s apartment wasn’t hard to find once I found a route, just took a bit, since he couldn’t take the train and it was a good distance away. Didn’t mind all that much though. Once I got in, I found his room, plopped down on the bed, and sighed. It had been a while since I’d been in school. Well, high school (or middle school technically). It had only been around a year or two since I had gotten out of college. Thinking about that made me smile. At least I wouldn’t have to deal with student loans for a while.
It took a bit of just laying there for things to really hit me. It was like my brain was catching up to my situation. I was alone. For now at least. Maybe other people are here too? I made a mental note to look for people that were acting out of character.
I had my work cut out for me, but again, that could wait, as I just lay there for a bit, feeling a bit down. That was cut off as I heard Shinsou’s mom get home.
The rest of the night was…weird, to say the least. Shinsou’s mom was quite the woman. Bags just as deep as her son’s, if not deeper, underlined blue eyes that seemed to sparkle, and hair the same purple as her sons was pulled back into a bun. She looked around her early forties, but had the energy of someone twenty years younger.
She had fussed for a bit when she saw me, worried I was being bullied, like she had said in her note, but I reassured her that I was fine. That seemed to put her back to her good mood. I listened to her talk about her day as she cooked and I did homework, and it was interesting. She was a quirk counselor, and apparently her quirk, which let her calm emotions with her voice, was needed now more than ever for some difficult work, which was why she would be leaving early.
We didn’t do much after that, just eat dinner and watch some tv, but it felt strange. Different than when I had hung out with any of my friends. I had never had parents, or at least ones I remembered, so I had no idea if this was what it was like. It wasn’t bad.
By the time I got to my room, I bone tired. Who knew being a teenager again would be so tiring? I was out as soon as my head hit the pillow, and my world faded to black, before turning white.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
I blinked my eyes as I looked around, surprised at the sudden shift. Not only was I not in my bed, I was also in some sort of weird white room. To make things weirder, when I hummed in confusion it was my voice. Looking down, it was my body too. Black wavy hair that hung just past my shoulders, pale skin, my favorite blue hoodie, even my jeans and favorite pair of shoes.
I scanned the rest of the room for a moment. It appeared to be featureless, aside from the walls, floors, and ceiling. I pondered for a bit, before a voice spoke up from behind me.
“Who are you? And where are we?”
I turned, recognizing the voice, and sure enough, there stood Hitoshi Shinsou, arms crossed as he gave me a wary look. I put my hands up in a placating gesture and gave hima small smile.
“My name’s Anne, and as for where we are…”
I shrugged.
“No idea. Your guess is as good as mine.”
He sighed.
“Guess it was too much to hope you would know more than me.”
I walked closer and patted his shoulder reassuringly. His eyes widened a bit at the touch, but he made no move to dissuade it.
“Hey, at least we aren’t alone, right? I’ve heard being alone in these kinda places can make you crazy”
I heard him huff as I walked past him and began examining the walls.
“Thanks, that helps a lot.”
I turned back and gave him a cheeky grin.
“I try. Any idea how you got here?”
He thought a minute, before his eyes widened.
“Something strange happened before I ended up in here, but I don’t remember how I got in this place.”
He gestured to the walls of the room, which I had finished examining by that point, walking back over to him. I cocked an eyebrow.
“Well, what happened?”
He stayed silent for longer this time, seemingly deep in thought, before he spoke again, this time seeming grave.
“When I woke up in the morning, I couldn’t move. Well, I couldn’t. My body did though.”
I grimaced hearing that. Shinsou continued, not seeming to notice my change in expression.
“My body, it went through the entire day on its own. It even talked, but…”
He trailed off, and I gave him a quizzical look.
“But…?”
He seemed to be in thought again.
“The things they said. They didn’t act like me at all.”
I think he was onto it now, so I pushed him.
“How?”
He began pacing.
“They were outgoing, they joked, they were snarky too.”
I snorted.
“You aren’t snarky? Really?”
He stopped and turned.
“That’s the kind of thing they said. Are you-“
I finished for him.
“the one who was driving your body? Yep, but it wasn’t on purpose.”
Shinsou’s shock turned to anger.
“How do you steal someone’s body on accident!?”
I shrugged. That only seemed to irritate him more.
“Why are you shrugging!?”
“Cause I don’t know. Why else?”
He made a frustrated noise before sitting down, a ways away from me. I gave him his space for a bit, let him cool down, before I made my way over and sat down next to him. We sat in silence for a bit before I sighed.
“If it’s worth anything, I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean for this to happen. If I had it my way, I wouldn’t be here.”
He was silent for a bit afterwards before he spoke up.
“What now?”
I decided to be straight with him.
“I don’t know.”
“Can you leave my body?”
I shook my head.
“I would have already if I could.”
He sighed seeming dejected.
“Then we’re stuck with each other?”
I patted his shoulder again, giving him a light smile.
“Hey, I’d rather be positive about it. Call us partners. I can really help you out.”
He snorted.
“How?”
“I can help you become a hero.”
There was a spark in his eyes when he looked at me.
“How? You don’t look like a pro.”
I laughed at that.
“Fair, and I’m not. But I have something far more valuable.”
He raised an eyebrow at that.
“What could be more valuable than experience?”
I tapped my head, smirking.
“I know the future.”
This made his eyes widen.
“What, you have some kind of future sight quirk?”
I shook my head.
“Nope. I’d be considered quirkless by your standards.”
“Then how would you know- wait what do you mean ‘your standards’?”
I chuckled.
“Here comes the fun part. Buckle up, because this is gonna be a wild ride.”
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Shinso seemed in shock when I had finished.
“So you’re saying…that you are from a different universe.”
“Yep.”
“And in that different universe, you saw an anime about UA High?”
“Pretty much.”
“And I’m in it too?”
“You aren’t a main character, but yeah.”
“…Huh.”
We had figured out quickly that this was a dream state of sorts, and that we could mold it to our liking. Currently, it took the form of a small American styled diner (we had haggled on who should mold it, but Shinso gave in first), with the two of us seated in a booth near the middle of the place. Hustle and bustle and other patrons sounded around us, and it felt real despite being a dream.
Shinso sat back, seeming to need a bit to process the revelations. I summoned a figment waitress to serve us both pie, which I chowed on while Shinsou seemed lost in his head. It was good, for imaginary pie. Almost as soon as I had finished, he spoke, sounding hopeful.
“Do I ever become a hero?”
I grinned at him.
“Yeah, a bit later than normal, but you do.”
His shoulders slumped as he relaxed.
“Good, that’s good.”
I pointed to his pie.
“You gonna eat that?”
He looked at me like I had two heads, before staring at his pie, then at me. I simply kept pointing. He slid it across to me wordlessly. I simply kept smiling and dug in.
“So what do we do now?”
I looked up from the pie, thought a minute, and spoke, small pieces flying out of my mouth as I did so.
“Well firtht we haff to paff the entranthe exam.”
He made a face as I said that.
“Would it kill you to have some manners?”
I smiled, flecked with pie still on my teeth.
“Yeth.”
Shinso buried his face in his hands.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
The rest of the week was fine, all things considered. Discovering Shinsou could talk in my head was…surprising (Well, this is new. ‘WHAT THE FUCK?’), but that wasn’t the problem. The guy snarked non-stop. Now, I considered myself a snark master, but this guy took it to the moon.
He nearly got me in trouble a few times by saying something at inconvenient times, mostly some sarcastic comment about his classmates. It was like once he knew no one would hear him, he just let loose with things he had wanted to say for years.
Soon enough, we made it, and it was the day of the exam. I was nervous, but I did my best not to show it, as Shinsou’s mom sent me off with a bone crushing hug, and a “Good luck!”.
Shinsou was strangely quiet as we made our way to UA (taking the train this time), and I decided to probe him, see if he was alright.
‘Hey, you alright? You’ve been pretty quiet.’
Huh? Oh, right. I’m fine for now, just nervous.
‘Valid, I am too, ya know. We did our best to make a strategy, and now it’s up to us to put it into action. There’s no guarantee here.’
That’s reassuring.
‘Even if we’re nervous, we have to be confident here. We will become heroes.’
Even if I have a villain quirk?
This again. I rolled my eyes as I replied, giving him the ‘duh’ voice.
‘A quirk can’t be evil. Only the way you use’
…That’s nice to hear.
No proble-
And way too wise for you. You sure you came up with it?
Hey!
Shinso just chuckled. I feigned offense, but I couldn’t help my smile, glad he was feeling a little better. Once we got off, it was only a little bit until we reached the UA gates. I stood for a moment, just taking in the intimidating sight before me.
‘Welp, here we go. Hope you’re ready.’
He was silent for just a few moments, before responding, voice hard as steel.
‘Ready as I’ll ever be.’
I nodded and stepped onto school grounds, taking in the other students arriving as well. Only forty of us would succeed, and we would be taking one of them.
‘Okay then, let’s do it.’
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
The written exam was easy enough. I may find it hard to sit still, but I was self admittedly pretty smart, though I guess you could take that with a grain of salt. Plus, Shinsou was there to keep me on track and help me out (That’s not how you write it! First you have to write the kanji like this…), so it practically flew by , as did Present Mic’s explanation, which bored the hell out of me. I already knew it, so it was a struggle just to sit through events with no change. Shinsou stopped my twitching and ensured I stayed put.
It was over quick, though it certainly felt like it was moving at a snail’s pace to me, and I was boarding a bus to one of the training grounds. I took the window seat and was alone for about a minute before a familiar voice said “Hey, is this seat taken?”
I looked over and saw Eijiro Kirishima, giving me a bright introductory smile. I could tell it was him, though his hair was black and not in the style I was used to. The shark teeth gave it away.
Classmate?
‘Potentially. He get’s a glow up when school starts.’
Glow up?
‘Oh, Shinsou, there are some things you simply will not understand, and I will not bother explaining. You can figure it out.’
I patted the seat next to me instead of responding verbally, which he took as the invitation it was. He plopped down, slightly shaking the seat with the impact. The bus started up, and things were silent for a bit, before Kirishima said something again.
“I guess I should introduce myself.”
He gave me a smile.
“I’m Eijiro Kirishima. Nice to meet you.”
I returned his smile, though mine came out more like a smirk.
“Hitoshi Shinso. Likewise, Kirishima.”
“So, are you ready for this? I’m kinda excited to get in there.”
I nodded at him.
“Yeah, I’m ready. More than you know.”
He grinned wider, pumping a fist.
“Heck yeah!”
We fell silent for another minute, simply listening to the noises as the bus moved. But Kirishima kept up the conversation soon after.
“So, what’s your quirk? Mine lets me make my body rock hard.”
I snorted when he said that, looking away and waving him off when he gave me a confused look. He showed his quirk off by hardening his arm. I nodded.
“That’s pretty cool. You could do a lot of hero work with it.”
He gave me a grateful look.
“Thanks man. What about you? I bet it’s really good!”
Is this guy trustworthy?
‘Yep. One of the most wholesome you can find’
So should we tell him?
‘No doubt.’
I spoke before he could reply.
“Mine lets me control people if they answer a question I ask. Only if I want to though.”
Kirishima was silent for a bit, seeming to process it.
Oh no.
‘What?’
Here it comes…
‘Seriously, what the heck?’
“That…” Kirishima began to say. I could feel Shinsou’s tension as he seemed to brace for some weird outcome.
“Is so awesome!”
What.
“I mean, you could take out a lot of villains without even fighting like that!”
I smiled gratefully.
“Thanks. You have no idea how nice that is to hear.”
He gave me a thumbs up.
“No problem!”
See what you get with pessimism, Shinsou?
I heard a sigh, and had a feeling of released tension.
I guess.
Soon after, we’d gotten off the bus. Kirishima waved to me as he left and I waved back, smiling. I got off, and made my way to the training ground, stretching and trying my best to release any tension left. There was a pit in my stomach, but I ignored it as I did a few flexibility exercises.
Let’s do this.
‘Let’s be heroes!’
The horn sounded, and it was off to the races, and now it was time to decide fate.
‘Okay, let’s review our strategy’
Right now?
‘Yep’
Fine. I guess it wouldn’t hurt.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Strategy Part One: The test uses faux villains. They have to have a weak spot to destroy them or shut them down. Find it and exploit it.
My first opponent was a one-pointer that jumped in front of mee, swinging its robot limbs at me. I ducked and slid around the attack and got to it’s back. Scanning it, I noticed a red switch on its back. It turned as I reached for it, me having to dodge a few more swings.
Luckily, while Shinsou may not have been that strong, but he was fast. I had to nwait for an opening, but I found one, sliding under its legs and grabbing the switch, throwing it with all my might.
The robot quickly shut down and plopped over. I looked it over and confirmed it was down, before I ran off to get more points. I quickly managed to find a few more, grabbing the switches and taking them down.
One-pointers: switch on their backs
Two-pointers: Located on the back of their heads
Three-pointers: Middle of their back.
Surveillance done; it was time to get to work.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Strategy Part Two: Pick our fights
I ended up running smack into too large a group of faux villains.
‘Great. This is not fun’
One of them, a two-pointer, swung for my head, but I ducked and slid around it to grab and pull its shutdown switch. That done, I turned, only to have to dodge another attack by a three-pointer. I kept the dodging up for a few minutes, and finally got to the back, and disabled it.
I sighed in relief, before paling slightly as I heard clanging coming near me. I turned and saw five different faux villains charging near me. I braced to have to duck and run, before Kirishima flew forward and began taking them on.
I took the opportunity to turn and run, though I made a mental note to thank Kirishima later.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Strategy Part Three: Use the other exam takers as distractions to finish off bots, picking them off to earn points.
I found a circle of faux villains on my run, fighting a group of other test takers. I reacted by dropping low to the ground, and creeping up. Due to the fight going on, neither the faux villains nor the students saw me as I crept forward. It didn’t take long to close the distance, and I leapt into action.
I sprang forward, grabbing the shutdown switch on distracted robots, picking off stragglers who were near the fight but not actively engaged, before leaping and taking out a few of the bots in the direct fray.
I dodged the attacks as I ducked and weaved my way around the fighting, taking swings and points where I could.
By the time I made it out of the other side of the circle, most of the faux villains were deactivated either by me or the other test takers. I gave them a thumbs up before running off to find more points. Had to keep moving during the test, if I stopped, who knows how many opportunities I’d miss?
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
And finally, Strategy Part Four: Rescue or help out anyone we can, to earn rescue points.
On my way to find points, I spotted a golden opportunity. A girl, around my height with gray hair, was taking on a three pointer easily, but a one pointer, smaller and more agile than the bulkier model, had taken advantage and was about to get her from behind.
I ran, hoping I was in time. Not only would I earn rescue points, but she could get really hurt. Who thought putting children into harm’s way was a good idea as a test?
I reached her just in time, pulling her out of the way and causing the one-pointer’s swing to hit the three-pointer, damaging the other. The girl gave me a strange look as she righted herself, but I simply nodded and ran off to find more people to help, shortly after helping a kid with rainbow hair take out a two pointer.
And that’s what I did. Warning other teens of incoming attacks, pulling them out of the way if needed, and assisting them to take on villains if they looked outnumbered or in trouble.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
That’s it. Are we set now?
‘Pretty much. There is one more part though.’
What is it?
‘I’ll tell you when it becomes relevant.’
I heard a groan in my head, but I focused back on the test. That strategy was what I lived by during those ten minutes. It was a blur but I did my best with it. Around Eight minutes in, I heard a rumble, and I grimaced as I saw other students begin to run. I turned to see the zero-pointer making its way across the field.
‘Time for the final part of the strategy’
Run from that thing?
‘Basically. But we should keep our eyes out, you never know when opportunity strikes.’
And strike it did. A minute after I started my tun, I heard a cry behind me, and I turned to see that the same gray-haired girl from earlier had tripped. I ran and helped her up, and we turned to run together, the test end siren sounding soon after. I sighed in relief. Whatever happens now, we can say we did our best.
The gray-haired girl turned to me, an unreadable expression on her face. She didn’t smile contradicting her words really, which sounded grateful.
“Thank you for your assistance. Might I know your name?”
I smiled and held out a hand.
“Hitoshi Shinso. Nice to meet you.”
She looked at my hand before taking it and giving it a light shake.
“Reiko Yanagi. Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Shinso.”
I nodded.
“Same here.”
She looked around at the destruction.
“Hmm, I must say, the paroxysm of ferocity that took place in the last ten minutes was quite spooky.”
The rest took a moment to decipher, but I got the gist, though I raised an eyebrow at the last word. Spooky?
Maybe she means cool?
‘Maybe’
“Yeah, it’s really something.”
She gave me an undecipherable look before speaking again.
“I saw you during that brief time as well, aside from when you assisted me. Your skill, while dilettantish, was quite interesting.”
I rubbed the back of my neck as I chuckled, my face a bit warm. I could tell Shinso was feeling the same. The guy was not used to compliments.
“Ehhh…Thanks.”
She looked to see the other examinees trailing out of the grounds, and headed that way.
“I must go, but may we meet again, Shinso.”
“Uh, likewise.”
And with that, she was gone.
She was…strange.
‘Hey, you live in a world where a man can be born with a robot head. That was nothing.’
…Touché
And with that, we left, and in no time at all, likely due to the exhaustion that was beginning to make itself known, I found myself at home, and collapsing onto Shinsou’s bed.
‘We did our best.’
But will it be enough?
‘I hope.’
No reassurances?
Too…tired.
That…is…fair…
There was silence as Shinsou seemed to pass out, and I soon joined him.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
The next week or so was nerve-wracking. For Shinsou at least. The guy was nervous, and there wasn’t much I could do to help. I was unsure as well. I mean, Shinso didn’t get in in the original events, so what if that was just meant to be? Still, I did my best not to show it to Shinsou. The last thing he needed was to have his worry validated.
Though it did turn out that he was worrying for nothing. The letter came, and we passed, though it was surprising to have Snipe of all people doing my acceptance video. Shinsou was practically ecstatic.
I’m going to get to be a hero.
‘Yep’
I’m not going to be a villain.
‘Yep.’
…I don’t know what to say.
Think it over for a bit.
It was a few hours before I heard a muttered thanks. I just smiled and didn’t say anything.
Once that day had come, the rest of time before our first day at UA flew by. A few changes were made though. I had started exercising and training, focusing more on building lean muscle, speed and flexibility. Plus I had started some fighting lessons.
At the same time, we had to design a costume, and that was quite the conversation. Shinsou had already had a design ready, inspired mostly by Eraserhead.
‘I like the black jumpsuit, but it feels a bit too functional, you know. Let’s add some color to it. OOH! how about some purple and blue, like our hair?’
I guess, I just wanted to look like Eraserhead.
‘Yeah, I know, but you should distinguish yourself. An original is worth more than a copy, and you, my purple haired friend, are more than a copy.’
I…think I get it.
‘You need your own identity as a hero. How about an overcoat?’
Hmmm. I kind of like that.
‘Okay, now we add the device from your future costume…’
Mimicking voices? That is pretty useful. I was thinking I needed some kind of gadget to help me, but that’s perfect.
‘Hey, you end up getting the idea, so you can thank the you I saw in my universe.’
He simply hummed in response as I put the last few details on.
‘Add a domino mask…’
Makes sense.
‘And one last touch.’
Yeah?
‘We need a symbol. Something that gives us a brand, encapsulates out heroing.’
Do you have any ideas?
‘I was thinking a spiral, sort of like a hypnosis wheel, the ones that spin with black and white?’
…That actually makes a fair amount of sense
‘Okay, I’ll take that as a yes. With that, we’re good. Now we just need to send in the idea. We can think up a name later.’
I have some ideas on that.
‘Good, because I suck at names.’
And soon, it was the first day. And I stood in front of the gates of UA. I adjusted my tie and looked up at the building, somehow even more intimidating. This was the future. Taking those steps would mean I would inevitably be involved in great danger, potential death, and the near collapse of a stable, albeit flawed, society.
‘One more time. You sure you’re ready to do this?’
There wasn’t an ounce of hesitation, even when he knew what I had just been thinking about (something we discovered. Our thoughts could be broadcast to the other if we weren’t careful).
I’ve been ready my whole life. Besides, it’s too late to turn back now.
Alright.
I smirked, and took that step into UA. Time to rock the hero course.
