Work Text:
“For the record, I’m gonna blame you for this.”
“Xiaobo, would you please shut up? I’m trying to concentrate!”
“No, I don’t think I will. I’m pretty sure we’re lost and you’re gonna tell Shúshu Sandy it’s my fault and he’s gonna believe you cause he still thinks I’m 20.”
Xiaobo glanced around the store as they wandered it. All the adults had said it used to be smaller. The older ones said it was even smaller than that but he couldn’t picture it. He hummed before turning back to his brother.
“Maybe we should climb to a high floor and try to look down. Oh oh! Maybe if we let ourselves get freaked out enough, something will just - click - and I’ll get Bàba’s Golden Eyes and -“
“I said SHUT UP!”
He flinched back. He knew Peter hated talking about their powers - or rather the fact that they both lacked any - but it was still a harsh reaction. It was just a suggestion and he was mostly joking, besides!
“Alright, alright. Sheesh.”
Before he could blink a half hour had passed and they were still on the same floor. Peter was insisting he could ‘sense’ them on it. Yeah right. That’s a demon-power mystic-monkey-business thing. Not a ‘I’m super cool and waaaaaay more mature ‘cause I grew up waaaaay faster even though apparently that’s not a thing normal twins do’ thing.
Xiaobo’s eyes lit up at an idea. “Hey, what if, when we get home, we tell Bàba and Bàmā to give us our watches back since if we had them we wouldn’t be lost!”
“I don’t think that would work.”
He pouted. “How come? I’m a genius plan-making person.” Peter stopped dead in his tracks and almost made Xiaobo run into him. “Whoa! Bro, what the heck?!”
“Dude… I know how to make that work.”
Xiaobo blinked several times and then grinned. “Oh yeah?”
Peter turned his head to look over his shoulder at him, sporting his own grin coupled with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Xiaobo liked that look.
“They won’t give us our watches back all because we got lost in a store one time. But if we were to do something else that would cause a whole panic then we can convince them that we were certain it was the only way. Since the only sensible way would be to use the watches.”
Xiaobo eyed the horns growing on Peter’s head as he let his own tail slip out and his eyes shine with that same mischievous energy. “And we’ve been missing for long enough that we can say we panicked and couldn’t think of anything else.”
There was a nod shared between the two of them and then, in the seven story mall, all hell broke loose as two children of super-powered inhuman beings ran around causing chaos in their equally inhuman forms.
