You looked at the man in front of you, dancing with your mother. Both had expressions of pure happiness on their faces as he twirled her around, causing her to giggle when he pulled her back in.
The room had a cosy feel to it, with fairy lights strung up to complement the warm, soft glow to lend it a magical, romantic feel. The band was playing an upbeat song, and almost all the guests were on the dance floor. The others were mingling around, catching up with each other and sharing lively conversations.
You smiled as you thought about what transpired just hours ago and looked down at the wedding band that adorned your finger. Reiner had catered to your every whim and desire when it came to planning your wedding. He didn’t care what you wanted as he only wanted to marry you. But after convincing him to at least give some of his input, the two of you decided to have your wedding in mid-December just a few weeks before Christmas — your favourite holiday, as well as his.
The ceremony was beautiful. Attended only by close family and friends, it was an intimate affair. The two of you didn’t fancy a big wedding — just your nearest and dearest was enough. You didn’t need to celebrate your love with a large number of people whom you don’t even recognise; just those who matter.
Looking back up to focus on your husband, both your eyes met, and he smiled at you. Your mother is now dancing with your aunts and in her place was your nine-year-old cousin. You chuckled when you saw that she was standing on Reiner’s shoes as he took the lead, causing the little girl to giggle.
After a few minutes, the song came to an end, and your cousin wrapped her arms around Reiner’s torso, and he smiled as he ruffled her hair. She then ran off to get some food and that’s when he made his way towards you with a soft smile on his face.
“Hi, lover,” you said with a grin.
He blushed at the affectionate name and smiled back at you; cheeks dusted pink while his golden eyes sparkled. He held out his hand for you, and you took it as he led you to the dance floor. The band started playing a softer, slower song and the two of you swayed to it gently.
“So, you’ve officially been married to me for half a day now. How does it feel?” he asked, smiling.
“Amazing,” you answered, looking up at him with nothing but love in your eyes and a smile on your lips. “Wonderful. Perfect.”
He chuckled, nuzzling his nose affectionately against yours. “I’m glad, and I hope you’ll continue feeling like that forever.”
“Oh, Rei…” you said, bringing his hand to your lips to kiss it tenderly. “I don’t want to spend a second away from you — ever.”
“And you won’t have to do that,” he said, kissing your forehead. “I’ll always be here, even until you get sick and tired of seeing my face.”
“Never,” you said, giggling. “I’ll never get tired of seeing my husband’s handsome face every day.”
“I’m so excited to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“Me too. You know, this will be our first Christmas as a married couple in our new home.”
“We could leave the Christmas lights up ‘til January,” he said with a shrug.
You smiled at him. “Well, it is our place. We make the rules.”
“We can host New Year’s Eve too, maybe invite all our friends?”
“Sounds good. We could let our friends crash in the living room too.”
The two of you didn’t realise it, but a small crowd started to gather around to watch you and Reiner dance.
He chuckled, bringing you closer as all eyes were on you two. You felt your heart race, never getting over how he makes you feel even after all these years.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
The crowd cheered as you two kissed. You felt your cheeks heat up as Reiner deepened the kiss, causing you to wrap your arms around his neck as everyone snapped away on their phones.
“Forever and ever?”
“Forever and ever.”
