Chapter Text
The summer has just begun, you are returning home from your fifth year at Ilvermorny. However, this summer was already not going as you planned. Normally, your parents would pick you up from the school in Massachusetts but before the end of the semester, your parents lettered you saying you were to fly home alone. ‘Great,’ you had thought, ‘Flying halfway across the country alone.’
When you landed at the Texas airport you were greeted by the smiling faces of your mother and father.
“Oh, mi Vida! I’m so happy you’re home. We are so sorry we couldn’t fly out to get you.” Your mom said squeezing you tight.
“It’s okay, mom. Hi, daddy.” You said hugging her back then hugging your dad.
“Hello, sweetheart. Let’s head home.”
The drive home was quiet. You couldn’t help but appreciate home accustomed wizards in America were to no-mags technology. You absolutely hated apparting because it always made you sick and the floo network was always so messy. When you arrived at your family’s estate you were elated to finally be home.
“Honey, why don’t you get settled in while I help the elves prepare dinner.” Your mother said and you nodded heading to your room.
Walking up the grand staircase towards your room, you always wondered why your family needed such a big home. You were an only child and so was each Lacoste before you. You guessed it was just a way for your family to flex its pureblood bloodline. Your father’s family had come from France and settled in the Americas in the early 1900s convince, while your mother came from a pureblood family in Mexico. Your mothers grandparents came to America because Ilvermorny was rumored to be the best of the best wizarding schools in North America.
A sudden pop pulled you out of your thoughts as you were unpacking, “Miss Lacoste, your mother has sent me to let you know that dinner is ready.” The house elf said.
“Thank you, Skippy. Tell her I’ll be right down.” The elf nodded and apparated away.
You made your way to the dining room where your parents were already sitting.
“You don’t know how happy we are to have you home. I can’t wait to bake with you again.” Your mother smiled while taking a bite of her dinner.
“Yes! I found this amazing recipe for these layered brownies I want to try.” You say excitedly.
“Angel, we have some news for you.” Your father said, clearing his throat.
“Andrew. Not now, she just got home.”
“Gina, she needs to know.”
“Know what?” You say placing your glass of water you had grabbed down.
“As a means of keeping blood purity, we have been sent an offer of… companionship for you from the Malfoy family in London.”
“Daddy-”
“Before, you instantly reject the proposal. We are not forcing you into this arrangement. The Malfoy’s are simply asking for us to meet with them and their son. We have not fully discussed any details with them, but if you agree… they have said they would not expect a wedding before the two of you have graduated.”
“W-why me?”
“Sweetie, our family name is known throughout the entirety of the wizarding world and with you as beautiful, smart, and kind as you are. I’m surprised an offer hasn’t come sooner.”
“How soon do they want an answer?” You ask, staring at your plate, no longer hungry.
“By the end of the week.”
“I’ll think about it. If you will excuse me.” You excused yourself by going to your room.
As soon as you entered the room you grabbed the cell phone off the bedside table and dialed your best friend. Ugh, no-mag technology is so much more efficient than wizarding tech is.
“Ayo, ayo.” The voice of your best friend came through the phone.
“Hey Alana, are you with Ben?”
“Unfortunately.”
“Can you put me on speaker?”
You were so glad your two best friends were brother and sister.
“Okay, you're on speaker. What’s up?”
“Do y’all know anything about the Malfoy family in London?”
“Other than their son being a total babe and an asshole, not much why?”
“Because I’ve gotten an offer of an arrangement with their son.”
“YOU’RE FUCKING LYING?!” screamed Ben and I could hear a squeal from Alana.
“Chill out, you're killing my eardrums!”
“We’re sorry,” Alana said.
“What did you say?!” Ben asked.
“I told my parents I’d let them know at the end of the week. At first, it would just be a trip to London to meet with them, and after would be when I give my official answer.”
“What are you going to do?” Ben asked again.
“That’s the thing. I don’t know.”
“Well if it were me, I would agree to at least meet him. His family is like wizarding royalty.” Alana said.
“Not just by his father, but his mom was a Black. The Black sisters were like princesses, but that was before you know who.” Ben said.
You could hear the sound of the phone moving around on sheets when you heard a yelp from Ben.
“Shut the fuck up. We’re trying to convince her to do it. Sorry N/N, I had to smack my brother.” Alana said and you laughed.
“I guess meeting him wouldn’t hurt.”
“Exactly, and if you two hit it off… the arrangement will be made.”
“See, what would I do without you two?”
“Never solve any problems.” Ben laughed.
You fake laughed and said bye to your friends and walked downstairs back to the dining room where your parents still sat.
“I don’t need until the end of the week. I’ve decided and figured there is no harm in meeting with them.” You said to your parents.
Your dad stood up and walked over to you to kiss you on the forehead, “You always have been my brave little girl.”
