Work Text:
It was a fine spring morning, the sun shining its brilliant rays, scattering light through the tree’s bright verdant foliage. Casting a fresh glow through the misty dawn forest.
Strolling down his usual path, Sesshomaru had a sudden urge to see his most treasured person, thus leisurely making his way towards their usual meeting spot. Today he was alone, having abandoned a certain sleeping kappa.
The gentle morning breeze creates lush green waves in the upcoming meadow, carrying the warmth of the coming summer, along with a familiar scent of sweet grass and blossoms.
He knew she was waiting for him then. His vertical pupils dilated in focus on his Rin. Her back to him sitting in the grass.
Silently, Sesshomaru sat across from his most precious girl. Making himself comfortable in his usual casual sitting style, with one leg bent and his arm resting upon it. He settled his golden eyes upon her, sitting prim and proper in seiza style, even when she was previously alone in this field. Despite her wild upbringing, she grew up to possess a gentle nobility and delicate strength that belied her less than noble heritage.
“Good morning my Lord” Rin utters softly, turning her chestnut eyes from her basket weaving to him. Smiling gently to him, sending shivers down his spine.
“Rin.” He replies as a way of greeting.
They settle into a peaceful silence. A wave of pure relaxation falls upon the great demon lord, as he gazes at her. His shoulders fall, relaxing. The taut muscles of his powerful body soften as he observes her craft.
Taking a delicate intake of breath that only the demon can hear, “So…what brings my Lord here today?” Rin speaks quietly, knowing he can hear her above the breeze, as she continues to look down, working her small fingers through the rushes of the basket.
“No reason in particular.” He lies. He was craving her.
“I see…” Rin smiles knowingly. “No reason huh? You didn’t wish to see me suddenly?” She murmured, teasing.
“Hn.” He replies, still watching her hands working the rushes of the basket. Almost mesmerized by the dexterity of her elegant fingers.
“I’m happy that you’re here on such a fair spring morning. The breeze is too fine to stay cooped up inside, so I’ve decided to enjoy it here.” She goes on whispering to him, her dulcet voice a balm to his sensitive ears.
Weaving the rushes of the basket between each blade, making slow swishing sounds, she continues her gentle whispering.
“It’s been such a fine week. I hope yours has been well. You see...” She pauses for a breath. His eyelids lowering, half-closed and his jaws relaxing as he listens. “...I’ve been missing you ever so much. But you know that…I hope you know that. I think of you often, and cherish every moment we spend together, as I know that my time here is fleeting…much like the cherry blossoms of spring...”
He acknowledges her with a quiet hum. Nodding, whilst watching her hands, hypnotized by the repetitive movement of weaving in and out. The combination of the rustling of grass, the swish of bamboo, and the soft breathiness of her voice sent tingles down his body, from his scalp, then down his spine. His mind is peacefully blank and his body relaxing even further.
“But let’s not talk about such things…” She goes on. “For today is such a fine spring morning…the flowers are finally starting to bloom. I’m looking forward to the first plum blossoms. Many prefer cherry, but I’ve always fancied plums myself.”
Rin goes on like this, whispering and gently speaking to him of various things of no great consequence. Of the goings-on in the village, the gossips of assorted friends she’s made through the years. Who’s courting who, who’s recently pregnant, the health of her friends, the state of various crops, and such.
Sesshomaru is content with her chitchat, happy to listen to her sweet voice go on and on. He slowly makes his way closer to her, laying on his side and leaning his head in his hands, looking up at her through half-lidded eyes. Tingles, of which he cannot describe, vibrate through his body as he practically purrs in contentment.
He can listen to her forever…he wishes he could listen to her forever. He also knows these moments are fleeting, all the more reason to cherish them now and focus on the present.
