Chapter Text
“Do I even exist to you anymore, Viktor? The door to your lab is always locked, you never speak to me, and I can’t even remember the last time we fucking slept in the same bed,” you snapped. He barely glanced up at you.
“Y/N, we can talk about this later. I’m so close to figuring this out, and I need to focus. You’re distracting me.” Was he being serious right now?
“I know that what you and Jayce are working on is important, but when are you going to have time for me? Whenever you need something I always make time for you. Why can’t you do the same?” Your voice started to shake. You reached your hand out to try and gently touch his shoulder. Viktor smacked it away without even looking at you.
“I said I’m busy,” he snapped. His hands then immediately went back to working.
You pinched the bridge of your nose. “Never in my fucking life would I have thought I’d be begging my boyfriend to care about me,” you let out a tired sigh while you picked up the cookies you’d made for him. The ones he hadn’t even touched. “I know you’re not coming to bed tonight. Don’t bother coming any night from now on,” you said as you walked towards the door. The sound of your shoes against the marble floor echoed throughout the lab.
“Fine. See you later, then,” Viktor didn’t even look up. The sounds of writing and the Hexcore pounded in your head. That was all he ever focused on. That stupid fucking Hexcore.. and Jayce. On the rare occasions Viktor did talk to you, it was always about how “the Hexcore was going to be amazing,” and how he and Jayce “were going to change the world together”. In the beginning, you were happy for him. You were in awe of his intelligence and wit, even if he wasn’t the best conversationalist. There was nothing wrong with that, you weren’t either. That’s one of the reasons you two were such a great pair. You could both do your own thing without getting upset you were apart. You always ended up eating meals together and falling asleep together at the end of the day.
Everything changed when he started working on the Hexcore. You slowly started to eat meals alone and only ever saw him when he stumbled into bed early in the morning. Viktor spent all his time alone in his lab. At some point he didn’t even come to bed anymore. You figured he just slept in his lab, if he even slept at all. Whenever you visited him, he barely talked or just flat-out ignored you. If he did say anything, it was just to tell you he was busy, he needed to focus, and you needed to go. After your third visit, you’d found the door to his lab locked. You got the message loud and clear.
“I said I’ll see you later,” he repeated, snapping you out of your memories. You gripped the plate of cookies so hard your knuckles turned white. You hated how confident he sounded. That he knew you would be back to beg for his attention again. You turned to face him, slowly walking towards his desk where he was working.
“There isn’t going to be a later, Viktor,” you spat his name out. Your hands trembled from how tightly you were gripping the plate. “You can stay in your lab as long as you want now. I’m not fucking coming back, and you’re not fucking coming to stay with me anymore.”
“Y/N- Wait- what are you talking about?” He looked up at you for the first time. “What do you mean?”
“It means we’re fucking done,” you said as you slammed the plate onto the table. “You can go on dates with your fucking Hexcore for all I care. I’m over this shit.”
“I’ve just been busy Y/N-”
“For how long again? Oh right, fucking months. I’ve given you space, someone to rant to, your meals, and everything else you’ve ever fucking asked for. And what do I get back? A door slammed in my face and a boyfriend who can’t seem to find time for me. We’re done.” You rushed out the door and slammed it behind you, leaving Viktor alone in his lab, just how he wanted.
