Chapter Text
Bokuto finally had a partner. Someone to hold hands with, and go on long walks to get strawberry mochi, and to kiss under starlit nights. He could rely on you. If he misplaced something you would find it, or if his words got lost in his mouth you would pull them out. On game days you were the first and last person he would talk to. He liked the way you guys were, You liked the way you guys were. Unfortunately though, relationships have obstacles. And unfortunately it’s the life lesson you want Bokuto would learn that summer.

“Y/N!” Bokuto barreled down the street at a lightning pace. Oof, Bokuto had almost toppled you over as he bear hugged you from behind. You couldn’t help but want to savor these moments, the small ones where it was just you two. Even if it sounded cheesy you really enjoyed being loved by someone who kind of completed you.
You chuckled as he squeezed you tight. “Hey pep!” Pep was short for salt and pepper, what you had called him before-and after-you knew his name. He had adopted a few pet names for you, but mostly just called you Y/N.
He lightly kissed you on the cheek as he let his arms loosen and eventually drape over your shoulders. “We should stop by Mochi Palace later today.” He knew you couldn’t resist the temptation of stopping by to visit Ahma and grabbing a few Ube mochi. “ Sigh, Fine. But you’re paying since you want to go so bad”
“Sounds perfectly fine with me.” He said while he squeezed you closer, which made you giggle.
The mochi palace has become your favorite place to visit since moving to Tokyo a few years back. It’s actually the first place you met Bokuto. You had been hanging in the shop because Ahma, who you had become friends with the first year you moved, had begun working there and you could now get mochi at a very discounted price. Bokuto walked in and whoosh, everything stopped. With the bell of the opening door and the sun coming in through the window you set your eyes on Bokuto. He was with a shorter but nonetheless still tall male with short black hair and a surprisingly neutral expression on his face.
He and his friend who you came to know as akaashi had both ordered strawberry mochi and sat at the farthest table in the back. “Ahma, who is that?” She looked at you “Who the spiky haired guy?” Mhm was all you could get out from the high rate your heart was beating at. “I don’t know his name but he goes to my school and he comes in every week with his friend there. They always order the same thing and sit at the same back table.”
That was the first moment you truly believed in love at first sight. That was almost 10 months ago, and you two were still going to the same mochi shop. You stepped in and the bell chimed, with cool air rushing into your face. Ahma smiled at you and Bokuto from behind the counter, pink walls behind her making her own pink hair seem all too natural.
“Hi love!” She said smiling, “Let me guess, same as always?” You both nodded and she smiled. “Alright then, Strawberry and Ube mochi coming right up.” She carefully slid back the glass door that was keeping the mochi cool and placed two of both flavors into separate cups. “That will be ¥1169.66 please!” Bokuto flipped open his wallet and pulled out the right amount and handed it to her.
Ahma and you had been best friends since you moved to Tokyo. She lived two apartments down from you and since your parents had become friends with hers quickly you two had grown close.
You were homeschooled, but Ahma went to public school. It’s how she knew(sort of) who Bokuto was when you first saw him. It’s also how she could tell you he was on the Volleyball team, and that they had a game coming up that Saturday. Which is how you go to properly introduce yourself to him. You sort of hit it off and after seeing a few of his games, you finally asked him out on a date.
He took you to the carnival and that’s where you got your favorite frog plushie. Bokuto had tried to be super manly and win the ring toss for you. However after 12 failed attempts and a lot of yen lost he finally gave up. You on the other hand had watched a lot of videos on how to win carnival games. Being homeschooled you always had extra time and came to perfect a lot of pointless talents or strange hobbies. So when you have the person working the booth some yen and got it on the first try he was stunned. You now look back on that night as one of your fondest memories with Bokuto.

You and Bokuto went to sit at your favorite table by the window. Bokuto wasn’t fond of the table because the sun would often shine in his eyes. Today though clouds covered up the sun mostly so he didn’t give too much of a fuss over where you two would sit.
You felt it first, a shift in the air. You looked at bokuto questioningly to see if he had felt it too. However, he was just happily eating his mochi. You then looked to Ahma, who nodded her head. She had felt it too. “Pep, I need to talk to Ahma for a second.” You said excusing yourself to the counter.
“You felt it too?” Ahma asked, “yeah definitely, it was super freaky.” She nodded her head back. You two didn’t discuss it for very long because a few seconds later the bell on the door rang and a small puff of warm air fluttered into the shop. Someone stepped right beside you, and started to order. You were about to walk away until you heard his voice, “Can I please have 4 Matcha mochi please?” Ahma nodded and slid back the glass.
You knew that voice, could it be? “Oh, hey Y/N! Long time no see! How ya been?”
