Dark chocolate melted and stirred in iridescent diamond mugs. Your best friend of ten years laid on your bed and looked straight into your eyes. And all you could see was the hue of bittersweet dark chocolate glittering like gems under your bedroom light. With your bum comfortably resting on your carpet, you cross your arms on the mattress in front of you and lean to rest your chin atop it.
Wooyoung offers you a gorgeous smile, one that pulls at his blush coloured lips as if invisible faeries were playing tug of war. It makes your heart knock around your chest and soft petals erupt inside you. His eyes stared at you with such adoration and love, one that you could mistake from someone who was more than a friend.
Your faces were less than a hair's width apart and all your senses were engulfed with Wooyoung. His beautiful tan skin that glowed gold in the soft afternoon sunlight. The two dots that decorated his face, one under his left eye and the other on his bottom lip. His familiar floral scent of fleur de peau eau de parfum diptyque perfume. The same perfume he insisted on buying every single time because he noticed that you cuddle into his side more often when he has it on.
“ Hi .”
Your best friend breaks the silence with his voice quiet, airy and cotton-like in your ears. And you smile. Wooyoung feels as though his heart grew eight times bigger, eight because you told him it was your favourite number back in third grade. It was like his entire body tingled and lit up in heart coloured glitter that would get everywhere even with the slightest breath. He could orbit around your smile for all his life and he’d be content.
“ Hey. ”
Your response was as quiet as his, whispered like a royal secret meant for your two hearts only. It seemed as if you two were alone in this world, not cramped up in your small bedroom but rather in an endless field of sweet scented freesias, honeysuckles, and chocolate cosmos. Your eyes remained connected, tied to one another with that infamous red string that holds you together. And you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Moments like these with Wooyoung are by far your favourite. Because, right now you weren’t just two people sitting in front of each other. No. Right at this moment you two were nothing but two souls, interconnected by love and giving each other the purest form of energy.
The room was silent, save for the occasional chirp a songbird would sing as it flew by your window. And you were caught in Wooyoung’s gaze, warm and welcoming and loving. And that was when you knew that you’re content with this. You were satisfied with where you stood with him. Wooyoung knows that you love him and him, you. You didn’t need cheesy confessions and awkward beginnings to show him your love. You’ve been doing it all your life.
Being in love with your best friend feels like flying through a sparkly pink sky, cotton candy clouds covering you every once in a while and bathing your skin with a sticky sweet sugar that you don’t even bother to get rid of because that’s just what loving Wooyoung feels like. Like floating over a groundless world of roses and butterflies and bees. Because Wooyoung is Wooyoung, he has sunshine for a soul and he makes you feel like you're basking in the wonderful gleam of early morning sunlight at all hours of the day.
And Wooyoung didn’t need sappy titles and promise rings to love you. He’s fulfilled with your relationship, happy to be your best friend, your person. Happy to be your Wooyoung.
